I shit on Ghost but only to make the "Ghost is metal" people mad. If you like it then you like it, whatever. But the first song I heard from them, after seeing them referred to as a metal band, was "Rats"... most Disney sounding shit I heard in my life. Fucking Disney metal. If they are metal then Imagine Dragons is metal.

I was listening to some Doom Metal since Pentagram is due to play here in São Paulo on late March. So I decided to listen to some Electric Wizard's Dopethrone album. The second track "Funeralopolis" is the perfect thing to listen when you're depressed as shit and fucked up on booze and wants to kill yourself:

Anathema's "Crestfallen" is also a good one:

This one is not as depressing as the previous ones but is an eerie one. Don't know if it1s considered Doom Metal:

And there's this one from Solitude Aeturnus. Some good shit:

I wish I could find more depressive takes on Doom Metal so I'll listen to them whenever I'm drunk and depressed too.

You could try Pallbearer if you haven't already. Their latest album doesn't really have that normal doom sound but Devoid of Redemption, mentioned previously in the thread, and The Ghost I Used to Be (and the albums they're from) might fit what you're looking for.

Maybe FUNERAL from the USA? Probably doesn't getting more depressive in terms of Doom Metal than the guys who kind of "invented" Funeral Doom and had one of them offing himself. Einar is the guy on the ABYSSIC HATE album cover:

And maybe the first WINTER album

They basically started as Blue Oyster Cult meets Kiss and yet somehow managed to turn into a parody of themselves.
I also really wish Tobias Forge wasn't such a fucking lolcow.

Dystopia are pretty despair- and depression-driven, but they're more crust punk rather than metal, so if you find crust punk gay and retarded, you'll probably find Dystopia gay and retarded too.

The song "My Meds Aren't Working" is a classic of theirs:

Their demo is good too:

When I'm feeling gay-tier sadness I listen to The Gathering (only Mandylion and Nighttime Birds though).

When I'm feeling like listening to some dark heavy stuff I often stick to Burzum or Tiamat.

When I'm feeling devoid of life shit could range from something like Alice in Chains to, I don't know, anything that could be atmospheric.

But I can't fucking stand DSBM.

Try Grief as mentioned already, Noothgrush, Toadliquor, Evoken, and Corrupted (especially their magnum opus Paso Inferior.)

DSBM is dogshit.

Way more depressing than any sludge metal band could ever hope to be. I can understand recommending Grief I guess, they even had a demo called "Depression" iirc. But how is Noothgrush or Corrupted even the slightest sad sounding? if you think all DSBM is terrible, you aren't looking hard enough. I get why someone would hate Happy Days, but Thy Light and early Forgotten Tomb is solid music.

Wouldn't want to miss Warning, doom that is trad and sad:

I usually do but that seemed pretty good, would listen again.

Yeah and: Disembowelment, Thergothon, Evoken, Esoteric, Skepticism...

On the gothier end of death doom Saturnus is pretty cool, here's their song Starres:

The new Imprecation EP is here. Fantastic stuff as always.

Way more depressing than any sludge metal band could ever hope to be.
The helium shrieks of DSBM are more hilarious than depressing. Seriously, how the fuck can anyone take music with vocals that sound like this seriously? Not to mention, like all black metal, it's all for show, meanwhile most of those sludge/doom bands were really living the misanthropic, drug-addicted nightmares they wrote songs about.
