https://youtube.com/watch?v=umcMVpgw8wMPeriodic reminder that before Dragonforce they were a juvenile deliberately offensive band with song titles like niggerslut and lyrics about being in the reich. And when Kim Kelly called out the guitarist he laughed it off and refused to apologize. Champ.
Fucking hell I was on the hunt for some blackened power metal a couple of weeks ago and couldn't find anything that matched what I had in mind, just symphonic shit which I do not care for at all. This is actually not too bad. You know of anything else in this same vein?

I wish, it's a pretty fun unique sound I haven't really encountered anywhere else. If I do I'll post it here.

Serpent ov Old play black metal with a fair bit of shredding, doesn't really sound like Demoniac or power metal, but best I got

Nice, I'll give it a listen after I'm done with The Fire and the Wind. Really liking what I'm hearing, basically the exact sound I was trying to find when I thought "I wonder if blackened power metal is a thing".

I just searched the thread for Spawn Of Possession and I see no mentions. What in tarnation?

Anyway, they're the best death metal band in history. They have everything: extreme complexity, grooves, melodies, solos, catchy parts...
They released three albums and split up. They reunited recently and released a new album this year under the name Retromorphosis. They play pretty much the same music, except slightly simpler.

Jonas Bryssling is the brains, but my favorite member is Erlend Caspersen, the bassist. This guy is a virtuoso, his playthroughs on Youtube are just pure joy to watch.

Spawn Of Possession - Scorched (easily top 5 DM songs of all time, IMO)
Spawn Of Possession - Bodiless Sleeper (bass playthrough by Caspersen)
Interview with Dennis Röndum (drummer/vocalist/lyricist) on Cali Death Podcast (there's two other long interviews on this channel: the newest one also features Bryssling)

Randomly remembered Steelwing today. Some awesome classic metal.(from the 2010s) Sadly they called it quits after 3 albums. Sobering reminder of all those bands that don't quite make it. Allegedly some or all of them just started working IT jobs instead.
From the first album Lord of the Wasteland.
and my personal favorite track
Second album, Zone of ALienation
Third album is a little more divisive since they started experimenting with their sound but it's still pretty good.
