I know I shit on zoomer BM before but I love this subgenre of playing pop punk/emo/Hank Hill ass riffs in a black metal style. Maybe I’m not as critical as I should be because it’s rooted in NSBM.
Weird. That's almost "Flip Your Wig," by the band that invented both pop punk and emo (depending what you think those terms signify):

Metal bands always liked them. Side 2 of Zen Arcade was psychotic crossover, like "blackened screamo" or some shit (in 1984). Anthrax and Prong covered them but that sucked, so here's some better tax:

Not as heavy as the original.

My wife said it reminded her of The Casualties. It’s weird where all this influence is coming from when I know these dudes are just worshipping Eisenwinter and Totale Vernichtung.

Switching to Apple Music…

Say what you will about the French, they're the kings of off kilter mindfuck black metal, which is exactly my jam.
For some reason Peste Noire didn't quite "click" with me, as strongly as Blut Aus Nord and Deathspell Omega have.

These guys operate on a level that we cannot possibly comprehend, "Mindfuck Black Metal" is pretty much how I'd explain DSO to someone. Pretty apt description.

The only thing with these bands, is that I have to be in the right mood to listen to them, otherwise it becomes white noise immediately. Same with Retrowave,

It's music to vibe to, when driving aimlessly at night. In any other setting it just doesn't hit right.

My problem with DSO is that I unwittingly listened to a hundred dissoshit bands ripping them off to the point where I got tired of that sound so when I finally backtracked to Paracletus I was underwhelmed. It’s a retarded way to live.

I honestly haven't really bothered with those because once you listen to DSO, you've listened them all. Unless they put a truly cool and unique spin to their sound, then it's just more of the same. I have the exact same inclination towards Brutal Death Metal; After listening to Suffocation, there's really no other spinoff band that comes close, at least in my ears.

There was a time where I had "Fas" on repeat for quite a few months, I was close to carving "FAS" with a kitchen knife all across my chest, hah. It's only why I put DSO only slightly above Blut Aus Nord.
PN come from a pretty different background than DsO. Lot more folk and punk influences in their sound among other weirdness.
True, but I've made the mistake of thinking "ooh nice! more French BM!" and while I did enjoy it, my interest declined over time.

Even if you don’t like KPN(and I do), Famine is such a rockstar that it’s impossible not to love him. Nigga is just selling cheese in blackface squatting castles fucking around with Ukraine mercs. His aesthetic of punk hooliganism with a reverence for medieval romance is peak.

Yea I was never big into Punk or Hardcore, that's why I guess the aesthetic kinda brings it down for me - again, just a matter of personal preference. Other than that, they're solid.

Speaking of Suffocation, I grabbed these recently.

Speaking of French BM, are there any recommendations for French Medieval BM that isnt already on the Antiq label?

As a French, KPN is the greatest nationalist band we have. Caring about France in those times of decadence feels like a KPN album. It's a band I don't listen that much, because I can't help but doom while listening to it.

Darkenhöld may be your thing. There's other bands with a Medieval feeling on Les Acteurs de l'Ombre, like Aorlhac, but they mostly have shitty gimmick bands.

I've never heard the word "doom" used as a verb. It sounds really funny. "I got fired yesterday, so I packed my things, went home and doomed for a little bit".
