The 11'8" Bridge - The bridge that LITERALLY murders rental trucks

I've come across the site for those videos, too. I believe the bridge is nicknamed the can opener because of the damage it inflicts on the overweight vehicles ignoring the warning signs and lights.

From what I recall, the bridge can't be raised due to other railroad bridges in the vicinity and the road can't be lowered because it has a very old sewer line that's nearer to the road surface than modern standards now permit.

The can opener is actually the metal structure that protects the bridge. The railroad got tired of inspecting the bridge every time there was a strike, so they installed the can opener in front of the bridge.

I went to jail because of this fucking bridge.

Dickhead I was working with (who was driving) insisted we would fit, we did not. Cops show up, and asshole tells the cops I was driving because he doesn't have a license. Some protesting on my part, some insistence of TRUE and HONEST innocence from him, and the cop finally tells us if we can't decide who was driving then we are both going to jail. I know this piece of shit isn't gonna confess, so I figured I should commit a crime if I'm going to jail tonight anyway. I took a big ol' swing at him, but must have telegraphed it with my body language or something cause the cop was tackling me as it connected.

I beat all the driving without a license and bridge charges, but the battery charge, on top of truck repairs, and legal representation cost me my business.

Is that where your username comes from?

Edit: have spent the last hour watching these videos. Fuck you, @Give Her The D, for wasting my morning.

That bit at the end of the video stole all my focus. What the fuck was going on?

I’ve seen this bridge before! The videos are awesome! Sorry @Doomfist that it cost you your business but uhhh... why on earth would you ever take a swing at a cop? “I’m gonna give him a REASON to take me to jail instead of being locked up for no reason and get out on bail in three hours and beat the charges!” This is why lawyers hate their clients lol. Kinda like telling a kid “I’ll give you something to cry about!”

I think he said he took a swing at his asshole driver, not a cop.

Yeah, @Testaclese Maximus beat me to it, I swung on the driver that lied on me.

Everything else you said still applies though, it was a mad retarded thing to do.

The Japanese engineers would’ve either raised that bridge, or lower the road under the bridge.

From the original site's FAQ, there is a totally separate site, 2m40, that features various bridge collisions from France (and in the French language). Some there are quite :O.

For the metrically challenged, 2.4 meters is a hair under 10 feet, 10 1/2 inches.

We have a rail bridge in my hometown that bulges down due to shoddy design, only issue is the bulge moves and changes size depending on the last train, weather and probably a million other factors. This all means a truck that fits Monday might well crash into it come Tuesday so it's constantly get trucks wedged in it.

We have an infamous bridge in Melbourne called the Montague street Bridge
Suprisngly, since the start of this year, it's only had one accident, IIRC the bridge would have a truck accidently hit it every other day, although news sites tell me that I'm wrong.
EDIT: It has it's own twitter, and the news sites have been proven wrong apparently.

Not 100 yards from my house are two walls that WERE part of a railway bridge back in the day. The railway was closed due to the Beeching report (fucking CUNT) but the bridge remained in place until the mid nineties. It was an iron tub type bridge, basically a metal box section placed atop two pillars and held in place with a few bolts and it's own not insignificant weight. One day it got hit HARD by a fast moving high lorry and the entire tub was catapulted into a field next to the road. The lorry didn't exactly get away unscathed either.

Was your crash recorded on video, or did it predate that?
