Hello all. As most of you are aware, the 2018 US mid-term elections are coming near for both the US Legislative branch as well as numerous local entities. Thanks to a contentious political climate as well as the actions (or lack of) of the sitting President I feel that the election will be quite an interesting one indeed. How do you think the election will turn out? Also how are your local elections doing?

This country's gonna stay Red for awhile - and that's even after Trump's out, TBH with everyone here (and myself.). As somewhat of a Lib, I think it sucks, but there's just too much retarded invidualism coming from the Blue side of things right now. Far too much.

I don't care what anyone says - having more than 2 parties exist would be great, regardless.

As long as it is entertaining.

I don't know though considering every other article everyday on the Washington Post and the like is trump this trump that. I'm not sure how tired people are of the hyperbole.

I'll be sitting this shit out like the last time, because I am beyond caring what this circus does.

No one votes for mid terms, that's what's going to make this funniest.

Blue wave will not happen 100%. Maybe pick up a few spots, but I frankly wouldn't rule out just a shifting of where and hold about same over all number as dems behavior has pissed off many people.

Also economy is a big factor and Trump has done better than Obama with out injection billions of dollars directly to the rich and the banks. Natural growth baby.

Being the MSM is still saying Orange man bad. I think more and more avg people are getting sick of it, used to him, or growing to like him as the world hasn't ended. But polling won't show that as they are pushing the shame angle. I wouldn't be shocked if mid terms show another case of what we saw during 2016 everyone on paper says oh yea... i'm with her and pulls the R lever once prying eyes are off them.

No matter what it's going to be both a riot and shit show. Salt will happen no matter what. PS to you libs... just remember if you get the blue wave Trump has done more good for the US in 1.5 years then King niggo did in 8, ya'll really want to lame duck him? Hearing the MAGA screeching at lame duck would be gold because he's not out of power he's 546098 D chessing it.

It's common for the party that lost the last general election to lose ground to the other party. Senate elections have only a 3rd of senate seats contested each election. The Senate seats up are mostly democrats.

It's important to mention that Trump won Wisconsin, Ohio, Missouri Michigan, West Virginia, Indiana, Florida, North Dakota, and Montana.
  • Blue are democrat incumbents
  • Dark red are republican incumbents
  • Light red are state where the republican incumbent is retiring
  • Yellow are independents (Bernie Sanders and Angus King)

As many here I think the DNC is going to win a slight majority in the house but they will probably be way too different to make things properly. Senate keeps being GOPs playground and overall expect immense amounts of smugness from both sides, also more Ocasio-Cortez types trying to win through social media.

brianna wu is gonna lose

people who think the democrats are going to win bigly are wrong but people who think the democrats are going to lose bigly are also wrong

the entire new jersey congressional delegation will be democrats with the possible exception of bob menendez's seat but even that seems unlikely--menendez got more votes in the democratic primary than there were total votes cast in the republican primary, and if he got through the primary by a pretty high amount a lot of voters clearly aren't majorly bothered by his scandal

I think the Democrats will have higher than usual voter turnout. Even though the DNC has no money to help out down ballot ticket, it is easy enough for them to mobilize their supporters against Trump.
I believe democrats will have higher turnouts as well of certain demographics, mainly because millenials, their biggest voting block, are voting at levels higher then baby boomers, gen X or even greatest generation at their average ages.

However, I think the republican base is also very energized, both due to the success of trump's administration, and the ever growing insanity of the Far left, which the DNC seems to be embracing, much to the chagrin of moderate democrats.

It wouldnt surprise me to see both the house and senate going further red, simply because the democrats are so busy splintering. They are either pushing candidates that have made complete asses of themselves on twitter over trump, practically writing the oppositions attack ads for them, or are promoting radical left wingers that alienate anyone to the right of stalin. The rabidness of their supporters, and the delusional hysteria they have been pushing through the media, is absolutely demoralizing to the moderate left. If numbers in other states reflect new york, the democrats will be in big trouble in november.

The democrats will see a higher turnout of far left voters, but it wouldnt surprise me if the moderate voters were absent.

I hope it turns out similar to what you are speculating.

But I fear all this media shilling of the "Blue Wave" will become a kind of self-fulfilling prophecy. The Boomers that constitute Trump/Republicans' most important voter bloc still watch TV news, listen to AM radio, and read dead-tree newspapers, so they are being exposed 24/7 to the full force of the MSM propaganda blitz, and I fear enough of them are gullible or dumb enough to be swayed by it.

And I also fear the Democratic challenger candidates being pushed for the midterms are not as radical or tainted as the ones they have running for reelection. For sure, we notice the outliers, the wacky radicals that stand out from the crowd and the dumbass Democrat incumbents who have made asses of themselves since 2016, but most of the new challengers against incumbent Republicans are much more measured and calculating political operatives, and even the minority ethnic ones don't push the race card very hard even though it's clearly on the table. It is easy for them to have much better optics against Republican incumbent, who they can easily tar with association to Trump.

The only thing I feel with certainty will work strongly against Democratic efforts come election day is the DNC's poor state of finances and all the cascading domino effects that will have on top-down organization of their midterm campaigning efforts on a national basis. Even then, if their local "grassroots" fundraising is competently organized, it can mitigate the effect of poor DNC financing, and in any case, all they need is to get enough warm bodies into the voting stations. They don't need to convince anyone to change their opinion to vote for such and such Democrat. There are more than enough passionate anti-Trumpers in every district in the country to put a Democrat into every office up for election, and it's just a matter of getting them to go out and vote. They can probably put all their money into distributing flyers in poor/minority districts showing people how to apply for a mail-in ballot or when/where to show up for early voting, and that would be enough to win most races. All those people are going to be voting Democrat all the way down the ticket.

Hard to tell from the outside what is going on in their internal planning. But it is easy enough to get it right. Aside from being on the defensive in terms of the seats up for election, they have everything but the finances in their favor, and I think that's not even so critical an element.

The blue wave will not happen for one simple reason. Off year elections are all about who decides to show up, and right now conservatives are terrified of the "liberals". The Democrats have failed to police their own base and self declared communists and openly racist pundits are now the face of the party. And let's not even get started on the social media inquisition and the fact that so many people in their daily lives are finding themselves self censoring their own speech.

It is cutting against the grain hard. Hell even I am finding myself censoring my mouth from my thoughts in public and it burns me up inside. And I actually LIKE my congressman who is a Democrat. Sad to say the culture war is at full boil and the left has vastly underestimated the rage they have triggered on the right. An anger made all the more virulent by the fact that they have prevented it from being vented. Combine that with a legitimate concern that if the "liberals" did win, they would immediately try and give legal authority to the terrifyingly authoritarian and racist polices their base is spouting. As a white male, I can't vote for them. Even if I am a left winger on every issue from economics to social issues.

If we're being realistic here, I'd say the democrats might have a chance at gaining more seats in Senate and the House, but we'd still have a Republican president unless they decide that Pence isn't any better than his "Partner in Crime" Trump because he hates the gays. And lord knows that the DNC would love to find a way to get back into complete power, probably with Hillary taking charge.

But I don't see a complete takeover happening outside the warped mindset of the DNC and its supporters and party members, and especially with all the shit they've been pulling as of late with and without Clinton's meddling. But I also don't see Trump lasting much longer either if the news about his own party not being too keen about his recent actions is to believed. And if that happens, it's a matter of whether Pence will be put in Trump's place, or if they'll try to find new Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates to wash their hands off the Trump/Pence debacle.
