Last year, in preparation for Halloween, I created a thread to share creepy things. So I wanted to do the same thing this year! Feel free to post your favorite scary movies, stories, videos, pictures, and so on.

I'll get things going with some recommendations. And I have a lot of them.

NOTE: Films I highly recommend are bolded.

NOTE: Favorite stories are bolded
And here are my favorites from the King of Creepypasta, Slimebeast. Seriously, his stories are fantastic; in my opinion (and in many others’), he’s the best creepypasta author out there.

And these are from No Sleep on Reddit. No Sleep is one of the best resources of short horror fiction and I highly recommend looking around!

  • Copper Canyon: Told in a unique way by weaving together narration and statements given to police, it’s hard to give too much of Copper Canyon away without spoiling it. But needless to say, it’ll keep you on the edge of your seat until the very last sentence.
  • Borrasca (parts II, III, and IV): A seemingly idyllic small town is hiding a very large, dark secret, and Sam Walker (the new sheriff’s son) is determined to find it out, especially after it begins to affect the people closest to him. By far the longest of Dalek’s stories (needing to be split into four parts to circumvent Reddit’s character limit for posts), Borrasca is nevertheless a quick read as it’s so engrossing. Each part builds up more suspense and adds a few more pieces to the puzzle until the finale, which made my jaw drop.
  • Mayhem Mountain: A group of friends, after purchasing the small amusement park from their youth with plans to reopen it, stumble across something extremely sinister lurking beneath the titular Mayhem Mountain.
  • Room 733: A college freshman finds herself assigned to the dorm next to the titular Room 733, also known as the Suicide Room. As its nickname implies, several students took their own lives after staying in it. To make things even worse, it seems as though the room itself has an agenda…
  • Paradise Pine: Told in the form of journal entries (which are encompassed by a framing device), Paradise Pine is about a couple staying a cabin when some truly strange and disconcerting things begin to happen.
  • Betsy the Doll: A woman reflects on her less-than-happy childhood with her drug-addicted mother, particularly the events surrounding her doll, Betsy. As she soon realizes, there was more to Betsy than met the eye…
  • Death at 423 Stockholm Street: While living at 423 Stockholm Street, a little girl heard very frightening noises in the walls…
  • WTF is going on in Pinal county, Arizona??: (Written under apseudonym) A very mysterious, frightening illness seems to have taken hold of the small town of Mammoth, AZ. This story was so realistic it actually resulted in dozens of people calling businesses in Mammoth to see if it was actually true.
  • Rocking Horse Creek: A man thinks back to the circumstances that led to the death of his brother Teddy when they were children. This story is more tragedy than horror.
  • The Disappearance of Ashley Morgan: A girl tries to uncover what happened to her twin sister after she disappears.
  • Who Killed Sarah Cooper?: After finding the body of a child in the woods, a woman comes under suspicion.
  • The Doll House: A woman finds an extremely unusual and creepy house.
  • The Lost Town of Deepwood, Pennsylvania: A group of kids tries to find the titular town of Deepwood, only to discover that some things are best left alone.
  • Lake Kagachante: After the death of her parents, a young woman returns to her family's abandoned summer cabin, only to encounter the reason why they left in the first place.
  • The Pocket Watch: A tale of desperation and, more importantly, a father's love.

Junji Ito Index

Junji Ito is the best. Even if you don't like/read manga, his stuff is most definitely worth a look. Here are some recommendations:
  • The Enigma of Amigara Fault: An earthquake leads to the discovery of a mountainside full of human-shaped holes, which soon attract people from all over Japan as they're convinced that the holes are shaped specifically for them. This is probably Ito's most famous work, and for good reason. You should definitely read this story first if you want a taste of what the rest of his stories are like.
  • Uzumaki: Not a one shot, but rather a collection of inter-connected stories that all revolve around a town that's been cursed by spirals. Uzumaki is tied with The Enigma of Amigara Fault for being Ito's most famous and beloved work.
  • Tomie: A series of macabre stories that all focus on Tomie, a gorgeous yet incredibly vain and petty girl who seemingly can't die. Wherever she goes she spreads lust, murder, and chaos.
  • Mimi's Ghost Stories: Six connected stories that revolve around a girl named Mimi and the strange, unnatural events that seem to follow her wherever she goes.
  • The Back Alley: A boy rents a room from a family and hears the sound of children playing in the back alley late at night.
  • The Thing that Drifted Ashore: A strange, deep-sea monster washes up on the beach.
  • Human Chair: An author, having trouble writing due to her uncomfortable desk chair, goes on a search for a new chair.
  • Red Turtleneck: A man struggles to hold his almost-decapitated head to his neck without severing nerves or blood vessels.
  • Hanging Balloons: After an idol’s suicide, Tokyo’s citizens are tormented by malicious balloon versions of their own heads that have nooses instead of strings.
  • The Chill: A boy is curious about his sick neighbor, which leads him to question his grandfather’s death.
  • Long Dream: A man is hospitalized for dreams that continue to feel longer and longer until he is dreaming for millennia.
  • House of the Marionettes: raised by a puppeteer, a orphaned pair of siblings find their long-lost brother, only to learn that he and his new family are now living as puppets.
  • Flesh Colored Horror: A preschool teacher deals with an unruly child and his strange family.
  • Fashion Model: A man is disturbed by a magazine model with an inhuman appearance.

In case anyone can't tell from my avatar, I've been on a creepy music video kick this past week. This particular music video creeps the living hell out of me. The weird old lady and all the bizzare imagery is just unsettling to me for some reason. The first time I watched it I couldn't sleep most of the night because I just kept imagining that lady standing in my room and looking at me while I tried to sleep. I have no idea what the hell the lyrics are saying but oddly enough I think the actual song is catchy.

I swear I've seen this before and I think they're taking the piss.

Holy shit @Cosmos that Penpal series was great! Why have I never read that before? I just bought the novel and I'm looking forward to reading it soon.

I don't remember if it was you or @Sanae Kochiya that was taking about it, but I remember a website with some kind of horror anime comics that had music and subtle animation that would go well with Halloween. I wish I could remember what that was.

I'm glad you enjoyed Penpal! I read it for the first time over three years ago and it's still stuck with me. I also bought the book and it was really good; it expands on a lot of the story.

As for the horror comics, they're from a South Korean web series called Chiller; it's been officially translated into English and can be read for free. The comics are great because they're very immersive, utilizing sound and movement to add to the atmosphere. I've heard that, for mobile users, their phones/tablets even vibrate during parts.

There's also an artist known as Ho-Rang who is infamous for making really scary animated webcomics. I highly recommend reading them if you're looking for a scare. Here's a list of their stuff. They're all in English.

This is one of my favorite creepy pastas. It's really long so not very popular. It feels like an extended SCP story. I highly recommend it.

Sure! How can I do that, though?

Oh, and I wanted to share this manga one-shot with you guys. It's called Fasting and it's pretty intense, despite only being 10 pages long.
