The Critic

I agree, this was a great show and I know they wanted to do an update special. Which would be set about 10 years later with Jay and Alice's kids in college, Elenor owning part of Duke's company and unfortunately, Jay's father would be dead (he was one of my favorite characters.)

The critic would have to be one of my personal favourite cartoons, it just so damn funny even if some of the pop culture references haven't aged all that well.

Yesterday night, I went to a seminar at the Brooklyn Academy of Music with Matt Groening and Lynda Barry.

During the post-show AMA, somebody asked him about the Critic crossover.

He mentioned that Fox actually wanted 8 crossover episodes, 4 for each show.

While he didn't mind the idea of a crossover at first, the demand from the network resulted in Groening removing his name from the credits.

Were these all meant to be connected? I can understand doing cameos or something like The Critic while flipping channels, but neither Simpsons nor Critic could carry a narrative going 4 episodes, much less sharing one over 8.

He didn't really go into specifics as to how they were going to be written. He just mentioned that Fox wanted 8 episodes.

I guess he's still salty about the whole debacle.

Reading the Simpsons thread got me wanting to talk about this show, so let's bring this back.

Starting off, here's every episode of the original run:
