the current state of music (mainstream radio slop) - ah yes, we need 5 versions of the same exact song to generate as much money as we can!

all the recent garbage rap, pop, country and other lame consoomer slop.

it’s the same fucking formula every time “rapper but with funny gimmick!!!!” and it’s getting worse at the minute, these labels are signing all of them up, drying up any actual talent. and giving 1 million dollar contracts to one hit wonders who fall off in a month. is it over for the current mainstream or is there hope?

This wouldn't be happening if Catherine Bush released her work at a much faster regular pace.

Just find a decent radio station on air or online and ignore that crap. They aren't all bad. You just have to look around. If your local stations suck look elsewhere. Support local bands. Support smaller, cheaper venues. Those places need your money more than Taylor Swift does. I feel like we're in a musical ditch right now. Not a lot going on that really stands out. Copy/paste music.

What you are describing has happened again and again. When a scene becomes popular the suits want to make as much money as they can before the kids move on to something else. So they sign whoever has the right look. It's the Johnny Bravo Effect. They fit the suit. This is what really killed hair metal. Grunge was just a final twist of the knife. And if you get signed at the tail end of a craze then you are never going to have the same amount of fame as the musicians that got in on the ground floor. All you were was a last minute money maker.

And while the internet has made it much easier to self publish your music and get your name out there, it also means that anyone can screech into a mic, wrap some auto tune around it and call themselves an artist. Even though the record industry is greedy and corrupt there was much better vetting of talent when you pretty much had to go through them to make it.

You're going to have to work harder these days to find music you like. But it's out there.

Just avoid mainstream radio, it's that simple
Right now I'm only listening to underground music stations and I'm having a great time

I don't even listen to mainstream music radio so for the most part I never knew the existence of many of these songs to begin with. Anything I listen to that's newly released would be from artists like MGMT or Molchat Doma.
