>buy new shit and upgrade ASAP goy it's new you must have it
all the components of my PC remain in near perfect health and I will not be replacing them unless they completely break
for me moving from HDD to SSD was motivated purely by all my HDDs simultaneously dying, and beforehand the only game I've had loading time issues with was Duke Nukem Forever, which was notorious for being an unoptimized piece of garbage
modern game devs are fucking lazy entitled hacks which is why you have UE5slop shovelware everywhere with astronomical requirements running like garbage on all hardware configurations while simultaneously looking worse than Battlefield 3/4
This actually brings up an interesting conundrum.
In the past oh, 20 years or so, ever since they turned the gaming industry into one of many adult daycares for women who saw a nice "easy" office job and said "I deserve that because I have a cunt and those office chairs look comfy", the answer to "should we optimize our game" has just been "nah there'll be a new, better PC out by the time we could bother."
But now that cycle is dead, very very very dead, and isn't coming back for the foreseeable future barring a complete collapse of the tech sector -- which absolutely is going to happen -- and the recovery of it, or some sort of megaton disruption we speak of in the same way we speak of the invention of the Internet. So PC hardware is basically frozen in amber for the next 10-20 years. Consoles, too.
Worse, even replacing existing PC hardware is going to be a huge deal. Like, if my GPU died, I wouldn't be able to replace it. If my ram goes tits up, they won't even honor the warranty, they'll refund me the purchase price and tell me good luck, buy some replacement ram at a 800% markup.
And that 800% markup is still low compared to what they're saying is going to happen over the next 2 years. Heck they're actually saying the warehouse stock of say, DDR5, GPUs, etc is going to run out shortly, which will cause another huge spike -- it might get the point that we can't buy DDR5 at any price.
And it's of course not just ram, it's GPUs... and SSDs.
So the era of "yeah our game is 250 gigs and runs like liquid monkey shit on what was top of the line hardware last year, just spend $1000 on a new SSD and GPU, you pathetic poor loser" is... over. The industry doesn't realize it, but it's over.
How's that going to affect things? Will we see them bring back the autistic straight white male programmer to actually clean up the jeet and AI slopcode, forcing them to actually optimize shit, shrink filesizes, code sanely instead of just picking shit off the Unreal / Unity asset store? Or will we see the inertia cause this shit to run headfirst into the ground for a few years first?
