The Finals is an online competitive First Person shooter developed by Embark Studios and published by Nexon, available on Steam, Xbox, and Playstation. The game is free to play with a premium currency shop offering cosmetics and battle passes. After a number of closed beta tests, The Finals released on December 7th.

Founded in 2018, Embark Studios is a Stockholm-based developer founded by former DICE employees, including Battlefield veterans such as Johan Andersson and Robert Runesson. As of writing, Embark has not released any games, but is developing another FPS, Arc Raiders, in tandem with The Finals.

What's that, an competitive fps that isn't a hero based shooter
a surprise to be sure.jpg

Is that inner city LA hair, because damn I kind of don't want to play this shit now.

Yeah I've been a bit concerned that the aesthetics might turn some people away, especially after Hyenas made such a stink. Personally I could take it or leave it, but if I may make an appeal, there's no whiff of Current Year and there are plenty of non-cringe customization options. The classes don't have any personality of their own so you can make them whatever you want with the pieces you're given.

"The Finals"
What an absolute dogshit name for finding anything using search engines
I added the wiki to the OP. It's actually pretty well done and comprehensive, relatively speaking.

Wow you're rewarded with gold tokens and slot machine noises? Seems like a good thing for children.

The beta is now live on all platforms; you can sign up through the Steam store page. The devs have promised that everyone will eventually get in, but I have no clue what the wait times are like for those who don't already have access.

Oh sweet Jesus, the grind to unlock gadgets and weapons is pure agony now. Before you could get one every couple of games or so, now it's anywhere from 5-10 or maybe more.

In case it would help ease off the frustration for new players, let me make a short list of my recommended unlocks for each class. You can take them in any order:
Medium
- Get the zipline ASAP. It's the most important option you have. After that...
- The APS is a good option if you want better point control. It deletes all thrown objects and projectiles in its radius, even through walls and floors.
- The Guardian Turret is an alright option if your team already has a healer and you feel like you need extra point defense.
- The FCAR rifle can be a good upgrade to your starting AKM. It's more accurate and takes around two fewer shots to kill light and medium players in exchange for having a smaller magazine.
- The Model 1887 can be very powerful in team fights. It generally won't one-shot, but it can clean up wounded enemies very well. Reloading sucks.

Heavy
- The Dome Shield and Mesh Shield are incredibly powerful for keeping your team alive. I would consider the dome shield too good to not have, so get it first.
- C4 opens up a lot of options for you. You get two charges and they blow up both buildings and players real good. If you want easy double kills, plant two on either side of the cashout station and go chill in a corner until it starts getting capped. It has a lengthy delay before you can detonate it, so it's probably not a great idea to use it if you're getting shot at.
- The SA1216 automatic shotgun is the premier choice for close engagements. If your aim is decent, you will demolish any retard who tries to 1v1 you no contest.

Light
- The Cloaking Device is fantastic as it allows you a great deal of flexibility in how you can approach enemies. Beware of getting very close however, as there's a good chance they'll spot the distortion effect. Also it won't save you if you're getting lit up by automatic fire.
- Glitch Grenades are incredible. They disable powered deployables and prevent effected enemies from using gadgets like shields or that pesky defibrillator. The radius is small so you'll need a good throw, but landing one can win your team a fight almost immediately.
- The Light class is spoiled for choice when it comes to guns. The V9S pistol and LH1 are both tremendously powerful precision weapons, and the XP-54 submachine gun is very accurate, easy to handle, and also does great damage.

Once you've got these essentials, what to unlock is up to you. Don't take night vision; it sucks ass.

What an absolute dogshit name for finding anything using search engines

When I first saw the thread name, I thought it was about e-sports, like Dota 2's The International was having its finals or something.

I thought that it was a reference to what the NBA calls their championship match, The Finals. Over/under that the NBA tries to sue over the name of this game?

Embark evidently doesn't like to hype things. They really just showed up to the game awards and announced out of the blue that the game's full release is rolling out tonight. I only learned of this because a couple of buddies who didn't even play the betas clued me in.

I can respect it.

Just found out about this when scrolling through Twitch trying to find some background noise while cooking. My first reaction was to come here and check if there's a thread lol. I hope it's not dogshit. It looks like a fast-paced game where things happen quickly which is something I like. Tried Valorant a while ago but it felt too slow and prolonged for my autistic ass. Downloading it now.

Thanks buddy.

edit after I played it for an hour:
Game is alright. Only 2 things I hate so far are the indifferentiable character models of the 3 "classes"(especially when from afar, you can barely tell what you're up against) and the fact that they're so extremely ugly on purpose. The very first thing you see when you open the game are 3 quite ugly niggers. You can change the appearance but they're niggers by default. And they're all fat/skinny-fat. Male physique is "dad-bod", females are the average American woman type. They don't say it, but the game is apparently trying to be "body positive" with these disgusting character models.
It's so unappealing and repulsive to look at and I hate it.
I think I'll stick with the game but getting used to looking at all those disgusting enemies will be a challenge.

This shocks me because it's Nexon.

This, however, does not.

Played for a bit liked the betas more can't really see this game lasting long given they host the only servers for it and all the cosmic bs they'll need to sell to keep the game up so if the player base dips and/or isn't buying anuff funny coin cosmetics crap they won't be able to keep the game up also very few game modes is very boring

Still loving the game, just not loving the grind to make it to ranked. Cannot wait until I have a crew together again; makes the game way more fun when you have a team that communicates and knows how to play objectives.

PSA: If you take the sniper rifle, it is your sacred duty to watch the cashout and collect free headshots on people who try to steal it. You can use breaching charges to open up sightlines, and glitch grenades to take down the dome shields heavies throw on it.

Yep game seems like playing with friends is almost a requirement. I don't think I'll make any of the friends I've got to start playing it and I really don't feel like browsing discord servers and looking for buddies to play with.
There is something else I don't like about it other than the niggers and the disgusting fatties they force you to play with but can't quite put my finger on what exactly. But God do I have problem coming to terms with the absolute beanie bag looking disgusting fat retards they force down my throat. Will probably die off slowly like many others did. It's fun but unappealing to look at for me.

They really need to create more game modes that full use the (really fun) destruction system. Maybe a payload type thing were you need to bust a chart through walls? That honestly looks like the only way it will last.

I've put a few good hours into it, and I've mostly been having a good time. I feel like this first week is the best time to play before a meta is established and games slowly start to become unfun. I'm seeing experimental teams like all light w/shotgun, all heavy w/shields, etc and it's pretty funny.

They pushed a new update yesterday that included adjustments to the matchmaking, and since then my group's winrate has tanked. I dunno if it's a skill issue or what, but the stomp/get stomped balance we originally had was turned into a constant sweatfest.
