The Linux Thread - The Autist's OS of Choice

Willing to bet its upwards of 80%. Probably fluctuates depending on the actual roles. So something like 60% troons in more public facing or management roles, and 95% in actual tech roles.
Nah there are way more actual women working in open source development than that. Everyone just stays quiet about it for obvious reasons.

Huh, for some reason I thought that I was the only one who had issues with GNOME, but no a ton of people feel that way. When I tried it out I was kinda baffled at how unusable it was at least compared to XFCE, and it made me wonder why tons of people even used it. Maybe it's stockholm syndrome.

To be honest though, I'm not sure if this is a linux problem or something that only starts when I load up Chromium.
if your harddrive is chugging data hard that tends to happen, or is it a constant issue?

that's the joke, not even gnome devs use gnome.

Theres a number of reasons from what I can see.
1. Its the default on Fedora and maybe some other retard distros.
2. For a long time it was THE Linux DE.
3. Some retards genuinely do buy into their "vision", even though that tablet/desktop/mobile "convergence" vision was stupid in the first place and has been dead for years at this point.
4. Its still kinda viewed as more "free software"-y than KDE due to GTK vs QT.

Its such a badly designed shitheap that I never could stand using it beyond just giving it a shot every few years. Its so tied in to the Red Hat ecosystem though that if you use that ecosystem, you're gonna run into it a lot. And despite a decade and a half of them abusing the fuck out of their userbase, some people still stick with them.

My pet conspiracy is that it (and Fedora) are shilled a ton because Red Hat IBM has the money to shill it online for pennies, but thats another thing.

Like KDE, it used to be better in older major versions.

You know what desktop I really miss? The Unity Desktop. Say what you will about Ubuntu and Canonical, but it was a very welcoming desktop with an entirely different approach. The window list being on the side along with its popout launcher was nice, and the things it supported like global app menus was especially cool and handy. It just felt like a full comfortable desktop. Then they just went full GNOME and skinned that trash, which isn't even remotely near the same.

Some people are still working on Ubuntu Unity, but it's not the same

Like, patenting the features so competitors can't offer the same shit (which is why GIMP doesn't have some tools and needs to have stupid workarounds), making it so you can't open the files properly without their software, the fuckery with those jews who literally claim to own the fucking electromagnetic spectrum at Pantone to make it so you can't have the color unless you pay them, and so on?
This is basic patent trolling. Patent shit that already existed before you "invented" it and then sue everyone. Sure, this would be subject to a prior art defense. Got a few million to win that against fucking Adobe?

Because, as much as certain people will fard and shid and cum when you talk about the need for standards, Linux has a standard, and it's GNU. Since GNOME began life as the GNU desktop, it's got the weight of authority behind it, same as stuff like bash and libcurl.

If RMS and Linus Torvalds announced that from henceforth, KDE has their full backing as the preferred desktop environment of Linux, and from now on, any project they run will assume you have KDE available, that would be it. Pretty much every other desktop would die out. The reason there are so many is the default standard, GNOME, is a shitpile, but there is nobody in a position of leadership in GNU who will appoint a successor, mostly because the leaders all regard the GUI as a superfluous application that merely serves to hide the terminal from the weak of heart.

It is pretty funny though seeing GNOMEfags shitting themselves when I point out that GNOME looks ass and how GTK is an horrible toolkit to work with. QT is the least horrible one to work with since it's actually decent and doesn't use C as a "object oriented" language. Huh... Kinda how trannies and pooners try to be something that are not and fail spectacularly, now that's pretty funny :story:
They don't even use Linux. They all use Macs.
FreeBSD developers would like to have a word with GNOME developers.

Reading through the posts since yours I know I am late on this, but nobody fucking uses GNOME. I used to play around with live versions of GNOME 2 years ago and it was pretty decent (not the DE I wanted, but still decent). GNOME 3 was an atom bomb of shit. Way to blow, devs.

Like KDE, it used to be better in older major versions.
Totally agree. I also played around with live versions of KDE before the GNOME 3 shit and it (KDE) was very appealing. The overall look was beautiful and it even had some sound! I never chose it because it was too bloated and I wanted a light weight DE but I was always more impressed with it than GNOME.

One thing I really like about Linux is that you don't actually need a desktop but there are a lot of choices if you want one.

This made me openly giggle because I had a professor once who would actually say shit like that. To be fair, though, I did learn how to live in the terminal and there's something to be said for that.

I'd love to know what the actual stats are. Certainly the "women" outnumber the actual women several times over.

Close to 100% in the actual programming roles. Women don't code for fun or participate in any activity where they cannot solicit male attention.

Edit: In commercial Linux software development, I have worked with around 300 developers and no more than 6 or 7 actual women. And that's when you have the cocoon of paid maternity leave, 40 hour work weeks, and 401(k)s.

TBF MacOS uses cuck-licensed code from various BSDs, including FreeBSD.
Unless that's recent the mach kernel which was the basis of OS X was directly from the actual BSD codebase, I think 4.2. Maybe that's subsequent history. FreeBSD took from the same codebase so of course they share a lot of code but that doesn't mean MacOS took it from FreeBSD.

It's like one of those mating and nature shows. Once the female autist is presented with written mat. benefits the eggs that no one wanted become wondrously fertilized. Life finds a way.
