Does he just not know how to use WINE/PROTON every well? If not, normies just have poor taste in vidya. Unfortunately, you need them if you want Linux to be successful in commercial activites. People like him are largely why DXVK, WINE anti-cheat, and SteamOS became a thing. They created demand for it. Sometimes bad people can create good externalities.
The big issue for linux is that retarded niggers game studios sit there and look at the check box that enables linux support in their anti-cheat and go "nah we dont need that". Literally 2 seconds of work could enable a vast number of multiplayer games to run instantly with no further work needed.

So what's the least niggerlicious way to interact with the AUR in Arch? My last time around, I just DIYed everything, but the way you niggers talk here, there's "better ways", I'm just a retard. Speaking as someone who finds Gentoo cozy, and didn't find DIY to be that much of a hurdle, just irritating.

Epic is probably the worst, they own EAC and yet they refuse to enable it for Fortnite.

Use yay?

An AUR helper is the best way. Paru or yay. I switched to Paru and I like it more than yay.

i can't believe in an interview he said that he needs "a few more programmers". i hate how he talks about monopolies that other companies hold (which is fair, most games you can't get literally anywhere but steam), but he doesn't care to bring up linux for some competition in this space.

i want to really like epic, especially since i've used their store through heroic games to get drm free copies of some new games. but they see me as an enemy, even if i've spent more on their platform than most of their users.
He also told people to use Balena Etcher.
while i am more familiar with directly using dd or just loading a flash drive up with ventoy, are there issues with etcher? my friends have used it for years.

Gathering user data even if they explicitly said they don't want that to happen.
i didn't know people would be putting spyware in their iso flashing tools. i'm not sure who would even be interested in that data? does facebook want to know my favorite linux distro? well, glad i am not using etcher.

I use Gentoo too. I think for the aur, understanding how to use it yourself without a helper is a good idea for anyone to do before they use it. But using paru (that's the best helper imo), is actually more Gentoo like than the manual way.

Emerge is essentially doing the same things paru does, just the Gentoo way instead of the arch way. And if a build has any flags that need adjusting you have to do that manually in the pkgbuild (at least as far as I know.)

there is also the aurutils package. Which is like a half way between a helper like paru, and full manual. It lets you search the aur in your terminal with aur search. Use it to fetch packages. Etc. Worth checking out, if thats your thing.

The notion of "burning an ISO to a USB" is insane and I wish it would die.
Or "etching a USB drive". You burned a CD/DVD because you've been directly attacking the surface of the disk with a laser to burn/etch the data on. With a USB stick it's the same as copying your documents. All software like Rufus does is copying the data from the ISO and prepping the USB stick to be bootable.

They gather user data and lied about it.
Like Slav Power said, it's better to use Rufus or Ventoy.
Also with Rufus you can customize the Windows 10 or 11 iso (remove some of the telemetry, bypass the online requirement, etc.).

Same. Timmy Tencent seems to hate Valve/Steam for being a successful platform and he thinks that Epic can

Skip about one minute in to save a bit of time, and watch for like 2 or 3 minutes to see the part I'm referencing.

This is actually, a similar sentiment, to what I've said in here. Probably a bit more palatable than how I've said things.

It's also sort of why I dislike the atomic distros. Along with just a dislike of the way they actually work.

Why the fuck is there not one good youtube tui? Decided to ditch electron apps for good only to get struck with 4 years old application or rust tranny shit that doesnt work half the time.

My favorite one is youtube-tui, which has pretty much broken itself for all but one of the 5 clearweb invidious instance since it updated two weeks ago due to changing the API since:

1 using the actual standard for invidious (is broken half the time with error messages even on the website)
3 are broken due to modified source code (probably)
1 is 2 months outdated so it uses the old API link

I know I could just use a RSS feed reader to "subscribe" to channels and pipe it into mpv but dear god i would have expected someone to come up with a more unified experience that's not an electron app taking up 2 gigabytes of ram.

What you gotta realize here is Tim Epicmegagames is and has always been a simp for Microsoft especially after they funded Gears of War as an Xbox 360 and UE3 showpiece that put UE over the top as the second most whored out engine behind Unity. Valve pushes against Microsoft and runs a successful storefront so therefore they are the enemy, hence all the spite moves disguised as necessary for Unreal/EGS like yanking Rocket League from purchase by Steam players or buying out EAC just as Linux support was running.

I would think it's just a gui front end for the command.

Sudo dd if=whatever.iso of=/dev/whatever
If it were that simple there would be no need for software like Rufus or Universal USB Installer where it sets up an EFI boot partition on the stick, sets the right partitioning scheme and whatnot.
Also with Rufus you can customize the Windows 10 or 11 iso (remove some of the telemetry, bypass the online requirement, etc.).
Yeah those are good to just make Win10/11 install without a fuss on any hardware and skip the annoying OOBE. There's also MicroWin from Chris Titus' WinUtil that does more than that, but AFAIK it's still WIP and YMMV with how well it does it's job. It can either send you off to a clean, working install, or a botched install, or it'll fail due to missing drivers or w/e.

By the way, I remember there being some FUD about Ventoy having binary blobs, but I didn't check up on that story. Technically it's easy to verify if those binary blobs actually compromise the OS you install from it, but as it usually goes with FUD like this, people act like when something is a closed source compiled binary then it is 100% malicious and there are zero ways to see what this black box does. If that were the case then Sysinternals wouldn't be a thing and Mark Russinovich wouldn't release a book that tells you exactly how Windows works.
Why the fuck is there not one good youtube tui?
Because the terminal was never meant for video viewing and YouTube constantly fucks with any form of third-party access? You can always write a script to download a video via yt-dlp in a format that allows partial playback, and then deletes it after you're done. It would still be janky but it would probably work better than some Electron app. However if you insist on using a YouTube proxy then you're SOL since Neal Mohan has successfully fucked them over to the point where you'll need to pull browser cookies for yt-dlp to be able to download some videos. Just be glad they haven't stooped to going militant against VPN's so you can DL shit through that and use prepaid burners to make accounts for yt-dlp downloading to not give them any data.

Alternatively, consider a different past time if your way of consuming YouTube content ends up being more effort than what you're ultimately getting. Not that I'm saying I'm better than that and that I don't do it, but let's be honest, most of the time we watch time wasting, low brow entertainment trash on YouTube and we'd be better off wasting that time on PySolFC playing Solitaire or Mahjong.

The funniest part about Timmy is that he flip-flopped on the PC bandwagon depending on how the tide wave was going. When PC's weren't as popular as consoles, he went around declaring that PC as a platform is dead. When PC's ended up being more popular than consoles that became locked down PC's, he suddenly embraced the platform with open arms as if he hasn't renounced his old stomping ground from which he built his empire. He is such a spineless little shitbag it's hilarious, always dancing and prancing around in the way that'll get him the most dosh at any given moment.

Epic Games also made Linux games back in the early 2000's, off the top of my head I remember Unreal Tournament 2004 getting one, so Epic Games total rejection of the Linux platform these days makes even less sense.

Epic have shown themselves to be absolute fuckheads in every way these days.
