i have a hot take that linux isnt supposed to be used on good hardware, ig distros like gentoo need good cpus and such for compilling but other than that i dont see a reason to use linux on a really good computer.
imo one of linux'es main points is that its way less bloated than windows, so making distros that have the same minimum specs as windows (4gb ram minimum etc etc) is pretty pointless, i see many "normie friendly" distros be like this, which is bad because it makes the average uneducated normgroid think linux is just a harder-to-use OS, which is infact a bad thing.

To be more specific: Linux should not be used as a Windows replacement. Computers that can't run Windows? Best to use Linux. Computers that can? Better use Windows. If you know what you're doimg you can be better off with Linux on a high end machine, but again, you have to know what you're doing.

I use linux for general stuff but I also like to game and when I game I play at 4k 144fps.
>inb4 gaming on linux
All of the games I play work fine

Generally you want the os to get out of the way. Linux using less resources means more resources for games and such.

IMO normie Linux kinda runs like shit on old hardware, it's fine if you run a cut down env like XFCE though most dont.

Oh yeah, people saying that Linux is the same thing as Windows are the same ones that says gnat burgoys are the same as normal beef burgers. When taken by its own merits (lean for potatoes, flexible for programmers and power users, can do most mundane tasks quite well), you could say a veggie burger has its own merits versus a beef burger. Now, considering the current state of Microsoft/Windows, they've probably washed the patties with Bill Gates' poo water.

On another note, I'm currently doing a chore for family, copying all of our VHS cassettes. I've installed Linux Mint as well as OBS, and it's been happily churning videos into my hard drive. Considered using Windows 10 LTSC for that purpose, however I didn't feel like buck breaking an install just for some throwaway machine.

The lowest spec hardware ive installed Gentoo on is a Pentium d with 4gb ram and I used makeopts - j1
Especially now with binhost it only takes a few hours to get a working desktop but just remember you can take the minimalism pill if you don't have the cpu or the time to install so much bloat

I was flipping through linux magazine at my local book store today and found something interesting that id never heard of before https://securonis.github.io/

I was pleasantly surprised to find that the handful of games I still play not only operate fine on Linux (w/o even deploying Wine) but that some of those games are actually native to Linux. So now I don't even revert to the Windows partition for games like I use to. I've been Minty fresh for months now.

It is such a pleasure not dealing with Windows spying/marketing bullshit. I update when I fucking feel like it. I am not nagged 1,000x that someone has attempted to access my Windows account. I don't have to worry about the Win11 migration, my File Directory doesn't spaz out and close if I have two open at the same time, etc.

Compared to the last time I made Linux my daily driver, which was... fifteen fuckin' years ago, it's a breeze to use. The only annoying part of the migration was that some data was locked into the Windows environment - like they had this note/planner thing that if I copy-paste text out of it, it would lose all formatting. There was no 'export as .pdf/.docx' option. The fucking Jeetery is only going to increase and make Windows more frusturating over time.

So FUCK 'em forever plus a day.

Nice. What people said would probably happen. Might have already happened.

Company that has been shown to be so neglectful about what happens on its platform that it tried using ID verification to fix the the issue. Ends up potentially leaking those ID's in a data breach.

Huh. Crazy how that worked out.

But... but... but... they use rust????

Don't forget that Discord basically told everyone in the US that you can't sue them with no way for you to not agree to their forced arbitration clause because the US system is basically the cyberpunk corpo dystopia at this point.
