I saw they have issues with nvidia but it says on their page the 3070 should work
So i guess the 3090 should work too?
it depends on the generation of Nvidia GPU, as there are several different implantations depending on the generation. 25.1.0 is supposed to dramatically improve support, however.

Currently testing Oh, Marky! It's running Hypergayland.

This UI is pretty cool, but I'm getting like 20 to 30 fps on this thing. Wasn't it supposed to be super fast, or something?

Primagen. Primagen. Sweet summer child. You are forgetting something very important. These are niggercattle. They aren't people. They don't care that they are being slowly walked to the digital slaughter house. In fact they enjoy it because in the meantime they get fattened up on free grain. They want to have Microsoft, Google, and Apple decide how they can use their computer. Then they don't have to think about it.

That is why it will never be the year of the Linux desktop.

(On the actual video watch it if you want to see how Microsoft wants to continue ruining their platform, also the second half is basically just promoting omarchy to apple tech bros. Since that is basically it's target audience)

Is your ~/.bashrc (or ~/.zshrc) file read-only to your user?
Yep, I make bashrc immutable with chattr +i unless updating.

Credit where its due, it does seem to be working. Three people I know personally, all of whom work various tech jobs, have talked to me about swapping from fagbooks to Omarchy rigs this week alone. Honestly a really pleasant surprise given how attached a lot of apple niggers are to their tumorware.

What is an "omarchy rig?" I've honestly ignored it because it seems like the current flavor of the month distro and it wasn't interesting at a glance.

The moment the Year of the Linux Desktop actually happens is when Linux cultists stop treating StatCounter as some holy gospel and thinking that it's just Windows vs Linux. That macOS, Android and iOS don't exist and that they don't affect the desktop market share percentages. That'll be the holy revelation that will finally make everyone shut the fuck up about this bullshit and have everyone go back to using their computers for once.

I swear to fucking God, all of this kvetching about "muh year of teh loonix desktoop" stems from StatCounter and only StatCounter. There is no other explanation I can find as for why some people are so fixated over the idea of Linux consuming Windows' market share, thinking that it's something that can happen at a snap of a finger, and that those are the only two operating systems in existence, and every single fucking time there is any negative article about Windows you have people like Mr. I'm Friends with Jason Hall the Ferret Fucker over here making a video about how THIS TIME it's DEFINITELY the year for people to eat up and get that sweet sweet ad revenue.

That, and standard autistic hyperfixation, but I already mentioned Linux cultists.

Omarchy is basically pre-configured Arch with Hyprland made to be as hassle-free and nice to use as possible, which means that die-hard Linux fans despise it for making it too accessible. God forbid someone makes a project that lets you install and forget Linux and just enjoy using it! But also Year of Linux Desktop now because people will magically move from Windows to it or whatever.

Been thinking about giving it a spin, be it on a VM or a physical machine. See what the buzz is all about since it does sound interesting, dare I say something I'd be looking for from Linux.

Nigger are you retarded?

No one even mentioned stat counter besides you. And Apple was mentioned in my post, and in the video.

You're making up shit about about people being upset about omarchy. A lot like you made up people in your head to get mad at for saying you shouldn't use Linux mint. I don't even remember what you thought people were saying at the time. I just remember you doing the same thing and being mad about it meanwhile this thread is pretty much only says good things about mint.

Did you see the phrase year of the Linux desktop, and have your wiring short circuit?

Did you see the phrase year of the Linux desktop
Yes, if you believe I misunderstand what it means, please explain it to me, because I can't come to any other conclusion than "people who repeat it like a mantra hyperfixate on userbase statistics". And no, you don't get to turn around and say "it's a meme you dip" since this phrase has been uttered unironically all over the Internet for years.

Right, sorry, my mistake that I assumed "Apple tech bros" implies "idiots that don't want to set up their computer" so I went through a bunch of implications to come to the conclusion that someone was pissy a project is making Arch easy.

No please, continue acting like your words don't have any implications that can result in someone coming to conclusions you didn't have in mind. But I don't feel like arguing with an autist that believes that every word he says has a strict meaning and if anyone reads him wrong then he is the crazy one because words are like binary code.

This Oh Marky thing isn't too bad, but it has a lot of minor issues that add up.

Multiple monitors, for example, only work if each monitor has its own fixed connection. It doesn't work with switching between two different monitors connected to the same port (which is the case with my dual-mode display). For that, you need to have a third monitor with a fixed connection where you can have the monitor config open and ready to be adjusted according to which other monitor is currently active.

I got Selaco (GZDoom) running in HDR, though, and at good frame rates, so it's something, but overall, it's still a long way to go.

Was typing a response to explain that you 100% did jump to a bunch of conclusions, and immediately got mad about them.

But I sat back, and read it again. lmao.

wtf is wrong with you? Are you actually ok?

I see, nice. Do you do the same for your sway config file as well? also what do you do about the fact that any application can record the screen on sway without any user permissions required?

I'm very picky with what I install and making it immutable can break stuff, so my configs are read-only, and then get updated through Guix Home. For the screenshotting issue, I use xdg-desktop-portal/wlr. pipewire and wireplumber with flameshot. Flameshot is my one and only Flatpak that's wired to dbus and the portals through my config.scm ; the end result is that it always opens a popup / context window before taking a screenshot. I don't need or want anything for screen recording or sharing, so that's all I got.

That's an interesting issue. Do you mean two monitors wired to a switch? And did you encounter this issue on a desktop or laptop?

yeah basically just a rather buggy arch linux fork with hyprland and a bunch of preconfigured dotfiles for devs that live in neovim, nothing really that interesting about it

and that those are the only two operating systems in existence
idk about you but im installing freebsd rn and i am definitely not thinking there will be a year of the freebsd desktop

Dual-mode means two monitors in one: a single physical unit with a button to switch between modes, each identifying as a display of its own. Technically, this happens via two EDIDs, one for each mode.

I remember running KDE Plasma on it, and there the switching worked without issues (other than the occasional pink snow due to bad DSC support, which can be avioded by limiting the refresh rate). Hyprland, OTOH, doesn't seem to be able to cope with that kind of switching due to how its file-based configuration works. It doesn't seem to be able to distinguish between the different EDIDs.

I meant on sway any application can record the screen through a wlroots protocol, no dbus or pipewire required. This requires no user permission. If there is a vulnerability in any of the software you use then it can record your screen. This is the same scenario as for x11 keyloggers/screen recorders. What to you do to prevent applications from using this wlroots protocol?
