Just thought I'd also add, you don't even need to create a live Linux disc or even a VM of your own. You can use https://distrotest.net/index.php to pick a flavour of Linux and run it there.
It's a tad slower naturally, but it's still a nice way to test without having to do any extra setup. It's how I decides on using Mint after trying a few other flavours.
