The Linux Thread - The Autist's OS of Choice

Why do we have to have so many distros reinventing how to install arch or Debian? Is it really down to "I don't like these maintainer" or lmao system Lennart free? Why do we need distrocreep?

Solution: stop using derivatives, stick to upstream.

Use Arch instead of Manjaro.

Use Debian instead of Ubuntu.

Don't want systemd?

Use Slackware instead of Devuan (Sysvinit).

Use Void Linux instead of literally every other distribution that ships with Runit.

Better yet roll your own distro, don't complain about it being too difficult or schizo, either.

Sometimes you do need to go downstream a little bit. Debian is perfect for servers, but desktop software the updates are too slow moving and you need to do some work around to get some closed source software working. Ubuntu has newer packages, but has a snap infestation and other stupidity. Linux Mint takes Ubuntu, removes the snap stupidity, and sprinkles in some quality of life improvements. Also Mint is the upstream distro for the Cinnamon desktop environment, which is the best for stability and ease of use.

Partially because of the authority it gives them and partially because misery enjoys company.

I did poke my head into how troons are with Linux. They're no different than any other tranny currently ruining any other hobby or fandom. They often have so little meaning or purpose in their lives thanks to the way things are right now that to them being top dog in something like coding is the same as serving your country in war. After all - coming out as "who you really are" is a big thing and should be commended as a noble act of bravery. So when others don't see it the same way, troon decay sets in and drives those who actually do contribute meaningful things out.

Speaking of things troons latch onto without really caring about them - I really want to know how tricky it would be to make a skin for Mint that resembles Windows XP or 98. The ones bundled with Mint don't do it for me and I'm entertaining the idea of crafting one for personal use.
Troons ruining linux is what has me pissed off right now.

Specifically when i finally heard about people want to replace open source. With ethical source. For whatever reason that is the straw that broke the camels back of me being actually mad.

These people really think they need to change what the foss guidelines stand for. To remove "problematic" people from using their stuff.

Idk I can't put into words how frustrating that is to me.

This is going to be hilarious.

"We don't want defense contractors using our stuff."
You do realize that your number one financial contributor, RedHat or whoever, has many government, defense and defense adjacent customers. If they like your stuff they'll just fork it, if they don't then bye bye.

Here's one of those: https://git.pixie.town/thufie/NPL/src/branch/master/NPL.txt
iv. You do not use the Work for the purpose of supporting or profiting from an Act of War.

The German government has fully switched to Linux. The OS can be used by anyone, that's by design

This is not using Cinnamon but you should check out Chicago95 and maybe you'll find it or something similar to your liking.

missed the part about mint.

if you want one for mint. i think you could pretty easily find a theme for mate or especially their xfce desktop.

xfce comes out of the box with an older look. mate does too really. at least by todays standards. still great desktops, and they can still look nice if you put the effort in to changing them to look how you want.

Can't believe the only thing people read on my post was that throwaway comment. Talk about gold fish attention span.

Anyways yes they suck and all that, but I'd argue they're only secondary to the real problem, that being the freetards and privacyspergs who may or may not be trans. Like there are plenty of freetards and privacyspergs here.

If not for furfags, trannies ruin pretty much every community ever, but I'd say in the case of FOSS they're only the third biggest problem, maybe even the fourth biggest problem. Trannies like to police who can or can't participate in a community, they ban le chuds and elect SJWs into positions of power, that stuff. That said freetards and privacyspergs won't let you participate and contribute if you have a brillant idea that makes sense, but they don't like it and they may even throw an autistic fit. Didn't y'all speak of the whole keypass situation last month or am I misremembering? I know youtubers talked about it on youtube.

Not being able to participate in a community due to wrongthink > Being denied participation because they don't like the requested feature(s)

Hell you ever wonder why there are so many DEs, so many distros, etc? It's exactly because of freetards and privacyspergs gatekeeping what can or can't be added to their projects. So people fork it and claim it will be the definitive version of the project and the cycle is perpetuated.

I know someone earlier even complained abt it, so I'm not the only one thinking it's retarded.

This is not a problem on Windows because there is only 1 windows and nobody can change it or do anything abt it for better or for worse. Same for every other closed source proprietary projects, Fire Alpaca feels better to use than Gimp, I'm assuming Adobe Illustrator would feel better to use than Inkscape and you dare to say anything about them to try to improve them, criticism y'know, nobody wants to listen to ya. Someone earlier even said there was a FOSS alternative to paint.net (the thing I use the most) and he said it was worse than it with less features.

Forreal almost all FOSS projects are like this. The only ones I think aren't total trashfires are Gdevelop, Godot, Blender, Virtual Box (Still worse than VMware apparently) and any text editor. (It's hard to make something worse than notepad lmao.)

Commercial products all have major customers they do listen to. Adobe might not care what you say, but they do care what their biggest customers say, and sometimes the things that annoy you and the things that annoy the people with lots of money are the same thing.

Meanwhile, Thunderbird can't even be assed to make Teams calendar invites work right, because fuck you.

Ironically this kind of license is less respectful of your freedom by going against the fundamental selling point of Open licenses: the ability for ANYONE to use a library or program without limitations.
Why not create a proprietary/custom license at that point?

And I believe its a good thing: being able to fight vendor lock-in AND get work done is pretty cool.
With ethical source.
This accurately describes what goes on in the modern "Open source" sphere in fact, it is not open at all.
Brian Lunduke did a video commenting an article about this very subject, it does really make you realize the current state of things and who specifically pushes for this "open source for me but not for thee" nonsense.

I tried thunderbird.

Didnt like it. Probably didn't help that I had like 50,000 unread emails in the account i added. Even after going in and changing the settings it kept wanting to sync all 50,000 so i would start it. It would begin syncing. Then cause the program to crash.

I got k9mail instead. Seems to work nicely.

Yeah ive seen it.

I just can't comprehend how these people can do, and say the things they do. How does the cognitive dissonance not make them stop and think about what they are doing?

Wanting to be a part of open source commumities and projects. Then somehow thinking its a good idea to exclude certain people from open source comunities because they aren't progressive enough.

Saying they hate racism and that racists are evil, trying to cancel and exclude them. Yet they are openly racist against white people. Then they cope by suddenly using a new definition for racism that lets them not look at their own hypocrisy. If you don't want to call hating white people because of their race racism. Fine, but that still doesn't mean its not biggoted, and hateful.

I personally don't care if theyre racist against white people. What I do care about is the hypocrisy, and the double standards. The whole rules for thee and not for me, mentality they all have. And I care that the normal people of the world let these people weasle themselves into positions of power.

So fucking gay.

As if 'violence' is the problem, as if the heroes of the human resistance who hung those Blackwater contractors in Fallujah or their state sponsors are somehow morally equivalent to Blackwater or Blackwater's US government employers or the US government's jewish employers.

icewm has a win95 inspired theme and design. its an alright desktop, some apps might not play nicely but it does what it sets out to achieve.

whether they like it or not, a piece of text isn't gonna stop someone you don't like from using something you like.
the u.s army swaped their ancient dos shit for something running windows 10, most likely using a hdmi moniter to work with it. the hdmi forum disallows hdmi's use in or relating to weaponisation of nuclear technology.
doesn't stop the u.s army from ignoring it and doing it anyways.
these troons ruin foss and linux as a whole, for everyone.
