enough money
no such thing, it's never enough for these people

Poettering should kill himself
It's like he looked at this philosophy and decided to take a giant shit on each and every point it made. Some Poetteringware does it for seemingly no good reason besides being different from this philosophy. I always watch and laugh from afar when his monolithic bloatware breaks while my POSIX-compliant shell scripts still do their job, like they have for ten years and more in some cases. I'm glad these fuckers didn't get to extend their tendrils into the kernel like they planned. I wouldn't be glad if he and that entire category of MacOS using NuDev "The Linux Experience (tm)" retards was dead, but I'd be glad if they were gone.

---
What are these mysteriously and regularily breaking linux systems I hear so much about? I'm not too familiar with them.

I've slowly gotten more dissatisfied with KDE over the years and have found that Trinity Desktop, a fork of KDE 3.5, is a suitable replacement.

It has plenty of it's own problems (no built-in sensitivity slider, poor compatibility with shutdown/restart on most display managers, some stuff just doesn't work for unknown reasons and requires workarounds i.e. remembering monitor configs on NVIDIA requires a custom x11 conf)
...but classic KDE is also downright better in many ways:
  • KWin 3.5 doesn't depend on the Xinerama/XRandR common refresh rate, making it much smoother on multi monitor setups than modern KWin
  • Legacy KDE is more compartmentalized, so when kicker crashes, it's JUST the kicker, not all of plasmashell & the kwin compositor
  • Trinity doesn't have a shitload of Qt dependencies that conflict with VLC and cause you to accidentally uninstall your whole desktop when you delete your media player, on Arch anyway
  • They don't sleep on X11 issues just because of Muh Soyland
  • Probably tons of other small little things I'm forgetting about
  • The mascot is Classic Konqi and not this down syndrome green blimp bullshit
Give it a try, see how it works out for you.

Like @teriyakiburns said, he didn't have to finish the work, he only needed to poison the well before being hired again at Microsoft. Same tactic "Coraline" did with his CoC, now it has become the rule and you have people troons acting like hall monitors from the top (Red Hat) deciding who gets access or not.

Linux Mint 22 with Cinnamon so it's Xorg, and it's the Celluloid video player but it seems to also happen in others

edit: it seems turning off fractional scaling fixes it. this laptop is a 1440p screen and 100% is way too small and 200% is way too big for stuff.
Maybe try running picom. Or another compositor with vsync. Or jusy messing around with the settings.

A lot of the time having a compositor running will help.

Not sure how to set it up for cinammon, since I always use it with window stand alone window managers, and also when i did xfce+i3.

It should be easy enough to do though. And if you need help im sure someone has posted how to online.

@GNU Abyss
TBF i personally don't think anyone NEEDS to use linux for almost anything. I am definitely someone that falls into the, uses linux for ideological reasons camp. I do also really like the insane flexibility of it, how you can either choose something where you need to put in zero effort and have someone do the work for you like vanillaos, to cinammon, or you want a bit more control with stuff like arch, or want to do everything yourself and even build your stuff from source like gentoo, and even that is just the beginning of choices you can have if you want to make them.

I saw a mental outlaw video a while back, and he said it in a way that made a lot of sense to me. Basically describing the outlook of windows, and apple users, comparing it to how prisoners get institutionalized, they start thinking about life from the perspective of being a prisoner. Then when they get out, and have freedom again. They want to go back to prison, where they didn't have to think about how to feed themselves, shelter, what to do. People coming from those other two systems are a lot like that. They see how much is available, and what you can do, and its overwhelming. They want to have daddy microsoft (or apple) do their thinking and decision making for them.

I'll like the video here in a sec. Or below if i cant edit it again.

It's a matter of convenience in the end for the majority and because some programs are not available on Linux and do not work on it.

the video only took 3 minutes to convine me it was trolling or satire. not funny satire, but at least I know to take everything else he says with a grain of salt. hey I hope for you you aint so autistic you thought it was a good video to make your point

no the real problem normies have with linux is that it's not as straightforward as windows, android or mac with some folks choosing mac or android over windows. they must understand how the system works and that's something theyre too lazy or don't have the time to learn. The thought of opening a command prompt or the terminal is already enough to scare them off

I distinctly recall UNIX certification being a minor marketing point for OSX up to and including the 10.6 Snow Leopard days. You certainly won't find the MacOS page on the Apple website mentioning Unix certification anymore
100%, and I'm a little shocked by this. A friend of mine from uni wouldn't stop crowing about it. Went on to work for Joyent, that one. Unix really meant something to him. I surely think we can do better than the miasma of signals, poll(), select() and their ilk. But I don't need to approve of an API to use it.

Absolutely soulless.
Also:
However the keynote "Only Hackers will Survive" by tech activist and environmentalist Joanna Murzyn, and Joseph De Veaugh-Geiss' "Opt In? Opt Out? Opt Green!" talk took attendees down a left turn by addressing growing concerns about the impact of IT on the environment and discussed how Free Software can help curb CO2 emissions.

I believe it still actually is POSIX-compliant. They may just not believe consoomers would know or care what that is.

I may be wrong. They're pretty secretive and might have quietly dropped it although I've heard nobody note it, and that would seem to be a really notable change.

Maybe they're after some of that Sovereign Tech Fund gibs.

If you go watch linus tech tips videos when he tries linux, one of the biggest complaints he had was literally what he talks about in this.

As far as straightforward. I started with mint. Had literally no idea about linux other than it was a thing that existed. I didnt even know what a desktop envirment was, and it wasn't any less straightforward to get working than windows.

I didn't have to learn anything really. The only reason I have after. Was because I wanted to.

Just tell them to use OpenSUSE then. Its literally Linux for Niggers. Almost everything that would normally require a terminal is GUI-accessible, and there is a boatload of official documentation.

Speaking of Linux for Niggers, has anyone given thought to making an official Kiwi Farms distro, and which software to use for maximum disavowal?

The NixOS package manager seems really useful, and they did just purge their founder and something like 3/4 of their contributors for being "Nazis". These two things make it a good candidate for inclusion.

edit for video

Yes it is. It's just unfamiliar to normies. Being unfamiliar doesn't mean not being straightforward. If you take someone who's never had a PC, they won't care if you sit them in front of Linux for Niggers (Mint, Opensuse) or Windows, it won't make any difference. Linux has the added advantage of being free and not pushing ads in your face or trying to sell you Xbox Live, Edge, MS Office or any other stupid shit.

I'm pretty sure we have, but I don't know when or where it is. I think we concluded that it was too much work and it would be better to just run a configuration script on Linux Mint.
