It's not just for free. Technically the kernel isn't paying you. But if you aren't getting things in the kernel. Then what is the point of your file system? There is a reason the have as many people submitting patches as they do. It's because if people want proper support of their software with Linux that is the way they need to do it. There is a very obvious benefit people get from having patches accepted there. It's not the kernel telling people to slave away and write code. It's them choosing to merge the code they get sent.

Linux really doesn't need another file system. Or need a bunch of extra problems from another sperg developer. When there are plenty of sperg developers already, that are at least slightly more socially adept.

I've rolled back to 550 and now 476. Neither have fixed the issue.

Logs don't seem to be helpful. The only journal error I have in regards to my GPU is
"[drm:nv_drm_master_set [nvidia_drm]] *ERROR* [nvidia-drm] [GPU ID 0x00000900] Failed to grab modeset ownership". Which isn't related in the slightest.

In regards to symptoms? CPU fans and CPU usage ramp up hard and performance tanks on several applications which heavily take advantage of the GPU like: Duckstation, Freetube, PCSX2, Firefox video playback.

I switched back to endeavouros on my desktop (my main pc) and along with that finally embraced BTRFS on my boot SSD and converted one of my game SSDs to XFS (still have to convert the other one over but I'll put it off till tomorrow). It's really nice to be able to use the AUR again.

As for my laptop (really only use it for trips), the WD ssd I had died after a year even though it hasn't really been used that much. At least anything important was already moved off.
 
So should I just boot to AstraLinux now or what? I am too retarded (MintOS) to keep up with these twists and turns.

I just want the power to say 'No' when it comes to my software. If I have to say нет instead I'll do that.

Astra Linux is the Russian fork right? I'm sure it would be fine, but English language stuff and stuff that isn't used in Russia may lose support

I've had half a mind to move there anyway - and need more excuses to practice the language. An OS switch will help with the psychological transition.

I would also think it's funny if they have a preference for ternary.

What happens if you run glxinfo? If things are working, it should say something near the top like:

direct rendering: Yes
server glx vendor string: NVIDIA Corporation
server glx version string: 1.4
server glx extensions:

The Xorg logs should be at:
~/.local/share/xorg/Xorg.0.log or /var/log/Xorg.0.log

Just today I took the time to read the Arch wiki on Unified Kernel Images and did the process myself on Artix. It went buttery smooth.

I'll probably start doing this more often with re-installs.

Question, is it possible to migrate an existing Linux install to a brtfs volume? Like doing a backup to a different drive, seperating/home into it's own thing, formatting the original drive, restoring the os and /home to volumes on the original drive, updating /etc/fstab and the bootloader?

Otherwise what's a good guide or reference material i could use to reinstall Linux Mint using brtfs volumes with @ and @home?

and based on the advice here I reformatted the nvme drive on my server used as a temporary download/file processing space to XFS, I should see some speed improvements. Would it make sense to reformat a sata ssd that has a windows vm disk image on it to XFS?

If you can't walk yourself through this, just make a fresh install on a btrfs volume. You'll save yourself time, guaranteed.

(You should be able to rsync -Pa old new, until that doesn't work because Mint is weird?)

GLXinfo and Xorg logs show nothing unusual.
 
Is font rendering on Linux still trash or can I finally unearth my dotfiles and get back to Arch?

Oh no, these aren't the GPU fans. It's the CPU fans going hayware because GPU hardware acceleration just flat-out isn't working for many applications like Firefox and Duckstation.
 
is it better to use mergerfs or brtfs to pool multiple media drives into one large one? Assuming that speed and capacity is more important then backups?
