The Linux Thread - The Autist's OS of Choice

At this point the only app I haven't been able to run on Linux or find an alternative to is CAD software, but I'm using web based OnShape which works fine for my needs.

Seconding this - I find a desktop to be preferable. Usually if you need windows exclusive software its for something more graphically intensive, whether it be gaming, editing, or CAD. A desktop will serve this purpose much better with a discrete GPU.
 
Windows gets very cranky if you don't let it update all the time. I had an old Windows netbook that would repeatedly boot itself from an off state to download updates, ensuring it always had a dead battery when i went to use it.

I used my Steamdeck for a month and I'd say it's a good compromise, I can use it as "It just works" machine, or switch to desktop mode and tinker around to install mods and other workarounds needed for unsupported software.

If you need windows, stay on windows. Is there a equivalent to hwinfo for linux? Check 3:19 in this video. I loaded sensor modules for my motherboard, with workarounds because of course, but it's still far away from what this windows software gets.
In the end this is all I could get without fucking around with smbus addresses:

There's AMD uProf but it only works on non-meme distros,

you'd think a nerdy specialization would have lots of choice on a nerdy platform. FreeCAD is dogshit, I've tried several times to use it but it either, can't do what i need it to do, or doesn't have the feature i need dispite its nearly 24 year development.
AutoDesk's CAD software is the CAD industry's version of Photoshop, nothing is even close to it's quality and feature set, it only works on windows, and you have to sell an internal organ each year to pay for the subscription.

This part still applies, though.
It's pretty easy to pirate though. I could tell IT at my work to give me a license, but then I'd have to run it on my work laptop and remote into that, which is a huge pain because I don't bring that laptop home and while latency is little enough that work softwares are perfectly usable remotely, something more interactive like SolidWorks probably wouldn't be. It's easier to just use a virtual machine instead.

... and are replaced by other issues like - not being able to customize the UI beyond changing the color of the taskbar, horrendous bloat, general slowness, glownigger spyware, one app freezing causing the whole computer to freeze (in DWM I can just 'MOD + Shift + C' and the unresponsive program is immediately closed), incredibly slow bootup times (up to two minutes on my i7 pc, compared to 13 seconds when using runit), updating behind your back (I deleted the program responsible for system updates, disabled updates in the control panel, killed all processes which check for updates, and yet.... it would still update, quite jewish, no? Oh and after an update the system was incredibly slow for whatever fucking reason.), I could go on and on.
But of course, the biggest downside is using something made by Bill "Eat the bugs and live in the pod" Gates.

The REAL reason you don't want to use linux is because you're a retard who can't use a CLI.

Using CLI isn't even required. I was able to replace Windows 10 on a laptop for a family member of mine, and they never really had problems with KDE. The average person who browses the internet doesn't need much out of Linux.

You can set your clipboard to unnamed plus in vim and neovim. And it acts like a normal clipboard. Where you copy and can paste it anywhere.

I assume you're just shitposting though since people like to go into the Windows thread to shit on Windows but you're going to naturally attract a lot of Linux nerds to Kiwifarms because Kiwifarms attracts a lot of privacy nerds which has a lot of overlap with Linux and tech in general.

Nah, its because linux trannies know that other than building linux, it's a worthless piece of shit that does nothing. It's why it attracts jobless pedos all over, and most people when they try it after being tricked into it, they realise that it is little more than a hobbyist toy that takes hours upon hours to just do simple shit that Windows can in minutes (after its harvested your data onto a streetshitters unsecured database of course).

The biggest issue with linux will always be its users. They are an infectious plague.

Building Linux? Are you so tech illiterate you don't realize all software requires compilation? Also, I don't think AMD, Intel, Valve would be pouring so much time, and money, into Linux if it does "nothing." Even Windows has a Linux subsystem Microsoft developed, and Microsoft has defended software for Linux, like WINE, in court. I know you're just trolling, but you're just shitty at this. Do better next, Mr. Parasite.
