The best read I have on this Dylan guy is that he's young and he sees this age verification shit as an easy way to get his name on a 'core' system (wider social problems be damned). I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out that he's a poettering sock or glowie, but he comes off as way too sloppy and autistic when talking to other devs for that to be my first conclusion.

using a light distro with something like cinnamon kinda defeats the point in my opinion, you do you tho
Cinnamon is still quite lightweight compared to Gnome or KDE or Cosmic, but still has appearance and quality of life improvements over mate or XFCE. I don't know where this minmax nonsense comes from but a balanced Desktop Environment is far superior to one that prioritized one aspect so much that it's absolutely garbage in all other aspects.

I agree with your assessment. He wants to get his name out there on something "easy" yet somewhat impactful.

His account was created in Mar 7 2026 on Codeberg. Very odd.

Not even a single file of HTML to be found. Why the hell is there a shell script in here?

I'm sorry, what? Your STATIC SITE was using TOO MUCH MEMORY? I can't with this guy, he's a certified grade-S retard.

He's so omega proud of his shitty contribution to systemd that he proudly boasts about it on his website. (https://dylanmtaylor.com/posts/2026-03-25-my-first-contribution-to-systemd.html)

All REAL tech enthusiasts know to not to use HTML for a static website. REAL static websites need to be smeared in shit and be bloated.

That's no excuse for being a Poettring lover. Arguably he is worse than a jew.

idk, ive never tried cinnamon but it comes with linux mint so i guessed its bloatware like gnome.
Cinnamon started life as a fork of GNOME 3. It’s goal was and is to be a GTK3 based desktop that isn’t as retarded as straight GNOME and more like traditional desktops. I’d say they generally achieve that, while also being somewhat light(er)weight.

I know this is old but this is Poettring's post supporting userdb

I mean he's correct but this is getting past the actual concern about the data being collected. Void or Artix seem like the place to go.
Seriously age verification is written by glowies and corpos. The people that support it are retarded people who think it protects their kids.
I know we are all autistic here and know that this is a surveillance nightmare but please contact your representatives or whatever the equivalent is in authoritarian regimes like the U.K.

I mean even if they do add it to userdb, can’t you just… not fill it in?
This thread has been sneeding about this shit for a week straight and it seems like half the people here, and most of the people talking about this elsewhere, don’t realize they’re not actually asking you to give anyone your ID. The whole thing is about a piece of user-supplied data, whose reliability is entirely dependant on you. The point is to have a single consistant answer to that question for any specific user, ideally set by an administrator in the case of child user, rather than applications independantly asking the user how old they are every time they need to know.
These laws shouldn’t exist, but also this shit is not the end of the world. My google account says I’m ten years older than I actually am, the same is probably true of lots of you. Maybe this will lead to more restrictions in the future, maybe this will be considered enough. Noone knows what the future will hold (although not trusting governments wrt this is a safe enough bet).

The issue is not if this version of verification is easy to bypass or not, its if the NEXT version that they now know they can force on you because people will write the code for it and people won't be upset enough to fight back.

Once you let the floodgates open there is no closing it. Right now its an optional setting you can input, next its forced upon install, then its enforced using IDs.

Why do I even bother with this website? Nobody reads my posts, especially not the people who reply to them.

Nigger, your posts on the age verification are absolutely retarded. You are defending an incursion on freedoms that will inevitably escalate, as it always does, on the basis of "ReAd ThE BiLl It OnLy FuCKs YoU iN ThE AsS WiTh LuBe NoT WiTHOUt It" as if that's of any relevance.

Sorry, ill respond to the other retarded thing you said.

Maybe saying "who knows what the future will hold" against people who have made it obviously clear that they want everything to be locked down with a ID verification is not, in fact, a smart things to say and giving them the inch so they can take a mile is not a good decision.

Did that make you happy?

Personally I view that in the case of surveillance its a slippery slope. If the surveillant realizes that they are able to get away with one thing. What stops them from being able to go further? Convenience is usually used by the surveillant to oppress the people. If its more convenient to just do the face scan than to protect your privacy by bypassing it, most will choose to do the face scan. Who knows what the future holds for us but its always good to fight for a better tomorrow.

People are stupid.
Make something easier and people will give up rights to make things easier or quicker.

People are fucking stupid.
