What it the point of Mass-Debates?

Don't get me wrong, I understand this is just a dumping ground for off-topic posts and posts that shit up thread, but reading the description "arguments, debate, discussion, and political musings that are inappropriate for other boards" and the 2022 rules that are aimed toward this place being aimed toward debates. However, most of this sub-forum is as previously described and a few big "debate" threads have filtered themselves into basically being discussion threads where everyone is on the same page like the Trump Enslavement / Trump Derangement Syndrome Thread, the Official Woman Hate Thread, etc.

I just have a few points of contention with the entire thing.

• At what point does a debate thread stop being a debate thread and just become a discussion thread? ​
• Is this place meant for debates or as a landfill for garbage off-topic posts and dumb user activity (though I guess arguments on the Internet could count as the latter depending on your point of view)?​
• If it's one or the other, or both, should the description and name of the sub-forum be changed to reflect that?​

To debate. It's written in black-and-white.

Now, everything is incredibly informal which means nobody attends to etiquette whatsoever. Most of what you're going to see is bad faith because most people have their minds made up anyway. Much like the debate bros. that goes on YouTube and elsewhere, there's no soul-searching and no rules of engagement. Nobody wins. Everyone loses.
