Haven't seen a thread for rhythm games, and it's starting to become a nostalgic subject. It's starting to become big to stream again, which is pretty cool.

So, ITT: Rhythm game nostalgia.

I broke my finger playing Green Day: Rock Band on drums.

I remember back in the day, in the Year of Our Lord 2007 or 2008 whilst perusing the local Wally World, they had carved out an entire aisle dedicated to Guitar Hero and Rock Band plastic toys. It was a silly time.

I only owned Guitar Hero 3 and had my fill of that type of game. Also introduced me to the now-probably non-existant band Priestess:

I suppose Audiosurf also kinda counts as a rhythm game? That was fun for a spell too.

Audiosurf is fun as fuck.

Man, I remember in 2011, you'd see GameStop dumpsters FILLED with the Guitar Hero shit. Now a fucking guitar for the Xbox costs ATLEAST $30 online, and the drums are like, $50 at the minimum. And that's for the fucking Wii.

I should've kept my Beatles: RB shit, I'd make a decent profit from the boxes and shit. oh well.

when i was young i would play rock band: green day with my brothers. when i would sing, i was a good christian boy who didnt swear, so i would have to murmur alot of the lyrics. good times

That must have been fun doing F.O.D.

I played the shit out of DDR back in the day. Pump was okay, too. Got to play Samba de Amigo and Taiko no Tatsujin in the arcades, they were fun.

StepMania is essentially open-source DDR. Highly recommended. You can use a keyboard or a dance-pad.
Of course there is also the Rhythm Heaven series which are really fun and casual games, perfect for a newcomer to the genre. Posting the classic:

Audiosurf was pretty neat. I used to play it using Sun Kil Moon songs which was ridiculous. Also Red House Painters and stuff like that.

Happy hardcore was suicidal.

Is there just a bunch of youtube videos of the game or something? I don't really need a pad to know if I'm basically on-beat.

I downloaded a stepmania pack off of piratebay.

I haven't played in over five years. Jumped in around five foot, was able to keep up for Little Bitch and Stomp To My Beat with no trouble, tried seven foot with one of the harder step sets for Freckles (the Kenshin opening), lost it about 2/3 through.

Not bad. Definitely gonna keep at it. Been a while since I've played seriously but I used to get though nine foot songs.

Far as rhythm games go, Elite Beat Agents was more or less part of the reason I got more into listening to music. One of the few DS games I spent a lot of time playing.

Only other rhythm game I've played lately was Frederic: Resurrection of Music and Frederic: Evil Strikes Back. The game pretty much has you play as a recently resurrected Chopin whose goal is pretty much just playing modern renditions of Chopin's music against various people, from a Japanese otaku that would be a wet dream for those that see them as a threat to society to a white New Yorker who more or less would be a legally safe Eminem knock-off.

Frequency and Amplitude are my favorite music games, and were tons of fun

the 2016 remake was very disappointing though, all the songs just sound alike and it has a plot where it doesn't NEED one

I was huge into pump it up and ddr back in the day, and when I got a bit further in life, actually got my own pump it up machine, which is currently disassembled due to some remodeling I'm doing on my house right now, but it should be back up again in a month or two

Have you guys heard of Deemo or Cytus? Both are fun (and on mobile but Deemo got a PS Vita port) and have rather interesting storylines to give reason for playing

neat
I came really close to getting a DDR machine, kept eyeing 3rd Mix Korean. Eventually I got a metal pad and a little while after that started moving around and kept getting apartments above other people, so DDR was off the menu.

Pretty much the only thing living on the ground floor is good for is stomping and hopping up and down like an idiot.

Been playing that DDR clone some more. Just have it on autoplay and I marked the spaces off on the floor in duct tape. I can keep up with sevens or so. I forgot how many songs I liked jump from a boring five foot to nine from normal to hard.

Also holy shit how did I play this back in the day in boxers? My nuts were sore af from bouncing around and mashing into my legs for a few days after that first day I tried it. I've since gotten briefs, but I don't know if it was working from two foot songs upwards over time doing for my balls like that kung fu thing where you punch progressively harder surfaces until you have Iron Fist, or they just got bigger as I got older or what but I don't remember that from back when I started playing back in the day.
