So after the big Szechuan sauce fiasco that happened just today, I figured it was time that the Rick and Morty fanbase- along with people who hate Rick and Morty too much- got their own thread.

Rick and Morty is an incredibly funny and clever show, but it's somehow managed to attract one of the worst fanbases in entertainment history. While a lot of it is just your garden-variety fandumb cringe, by far the worst fans are the ones who idolize Rick and pride themselves in being like him (despite the actual show making it clear that Rick's nihilism, abrasiveness, and worship of his own intellect has made him a fucking miserable shell of a person).

And then, of course, there are the annoying fans that circlejerk over how 2DEEP4U Rick and Morty is and how normies just don't appreciate it:

Hard to say, since I’ve only recently began observing this shit fest of a fandom but there’s always been the Tumblr side who insist Rick is a “uwu precious bby transboii” and other types of cringe.

Thank you for this. Thank you so goddamn much. The show has made it quite clear that Rick isn't exactly the most healthy person but these guys are treating him like he's the messiah or something. Kinda reminds me of how people idolized Travis Touchdown of No More Heroes despite the fact the game makes it clear Travis is a creepy, otaku manchild being led around by his dick. I guess it's the same ol' song and dance you see in many fandoms, where people identify with what they perceive the character as while ignoring the negative bits.

If anything, I felt bad for Jerry a couple of episodes but then I learn that he fucking accepts that he's stupid in a way. When you get an F on a test. What do you do?

Study harder and try to save your ass or accept the shit that comes towards you and don't amount to anything? Jerry's the kind of loser that would pick option 2 and be okay with it and then when shit doesn't work out, he forces people to carry his own shit. He is literally a cartoon lolcow. I didn't think it was possible until here we are.
