There's just something darkly humorous about everything except the toilet going as planned. Might as well empty out the contents towards the dark side of the moon while no one's looking. :story:

Probably one is his and the other is NASA issue.

Their version of the X-33 Speedmaster isn't available for public purchase anymore so I'd guess NASA issues them.

The ones the ESA uses are available for purchase fyi ....

I think the best part of this entire thing is to see little kids geeking out over space exploration versus whatever video games are on their tablets.
 
I’ve waited for a mission like this since I was a kid. I have to wake up at 3am my time to watch their broadcast, but it’s totally worth it.

I can’t wait!

I wish that was the case on my side.
The sheer amount of apathy from adults and children alike is disheartening. But that's probably just a result of where I live.
And I have told everyone and their dog about this.

Either way I am still super hyped. its like 13-14hrs now till close approach and then furthest? (lots of coffee ready)
 
I’ve been spending Easter with the inlaws, and nobody is showing any interest except me. I feel autistic for the first time in a long while. They liked the story about the pisser breaking down, though

It's been a mixed bag for me. On one extreme, we had a coworker who very seriously considered taking launch day off to focus on the mission 100%. On the other extreme. I've had multiple people ask "Why are we even doing this, it's a lot of money. What do we get out of this?" and the people who don't like the monetary cost get even more wary when you answer "It will help us get to Mars." From their perspective, we are spending a lot of money now for the opportunity to spend a lot more money later while not getting any tangible benefit for society beyond bragging rights.

On the other hand, "we're going back to the moon" is less compelling for modern overwhelmed people. We've done it once before so it's not new and exciting thing, especially when the other question I get from people is "Why didn't we just use the Apollo stuff again?" Not a bad question, but I wouldn't be surprised if nobody who worked on or designed Apollo is at NASA anymore. That's not even mentioning the lack of modern telemetry and computing devices in Apollo, which already makes it a non-starter.

With as much as America spends on random nonsense that benefits very few people, there's an incalculable benefit to morale when we see intensely complex projects like this proving that humanity is still reaching for the stars. Go Artemis!
 
I'll admit I wasn't really aware of this mission until like the day before the launch, but that's just me being self-absorbed. I never have been and never will be the "this is a waste of money" type of person; that's the attitude of a petty soul.

You have to carefully thread your way between the extremes of "yawn who cares" (what a flake would say) and "I heckin' love science!" (what a childish idiot would say). We should support manned space flight if only because it increases the glory of the United States.

They have mentioned the fan not properly separating the liquids, as well as the wastewater dumps not dumping fully as expected due to the dump port freezing. Are these symptoms of the same problem or do you think that toilet is just doomed to have multiple issues by design?

This could be a major issue if one of the astros gets diarrhea, but they probably have Imodium onboard for that. Hope they stay healthy!

I just take what I hear from the livestream. They said one more use of the toilet before ground control will come up with another plan for them.
I did see them vent liquids like 4-5 hours ago.

At least the shit hasn't hit the fan I guess.

Edit: Live conference now morning meeting. Everyone sounds pumped. They just clarified the various viewing angles and camera settings for the flyby.
