I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

This article doesn't cite even a single example of a "conservative" mocking her for that video. The best it ever does is that it mentions some literal Q-Anon account--and not even by name--and uses that to paint a broad stroke to smear every single Conservative.

But that's how the media works, now. If they can't find a monster they just invent one, pretend that they killed it, and then run around sucking each others dicks.
Even the comments section is ripping them for that article. They really are a bunch of propaganda whores.

Per a headline on Drudge, she's stated that she's not trying to turn the US into Venezuela, but rather into Sweden.

Alexandria, honey...um...

I saw that too.

So instead of turning America into a country where people eat cats and dogs as they flee to Canada and Mexico, she's trying to turn America into a country where the government is afraid to publish its own rape statistics out of fear of offending the hordes of migrants flooding the country.

The irony is, she'll get both.

AOC would be well advised to set aside her Marx and try some Kipling for a change.

Rudyard Kipling said:
THE GODS OF THE COPYBOOK HEADINGS

AS I PASS through my incarnations in every age and race,
I make my proper prostrations to the Gods of the Market Place.
Peering through reverent fingers I watch them flourish and fall,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings, I notice, outlast them all.

We were living in trees when they met us. They showed us each in turn
That Water would certainly wet us, as Fire would certainly burn:
But we found them lacking in Uplift, Vision and Breadth of Mind,
So we left them to teach the Gorillas while we followed the March of Mankind.

We moved as the Spirit listed. They never altered their pace,
Being neither cloud nor wind-borne like the Gods of the Market Place,
But they always caught up with our progress, and presently word would come
That a tribe had been wiped off its icefield, or the lights had gone out in Rome.

With the Hopes that our World is built on they were utterly out of touch,
They denied that the Moon was Stilton; they denied she was even Dutch;
They denied that Wishes were Horses; they denied that a Pig had Wings;
So we worshipped the Gods of the Market Who promised these beautiful things.

When the Cambrian measures were forming, They promised perpetual peace.
They swore, if we gave them our weapons, that the wars of the tribes would cease.
But when we disarmed They sold us and delivered us bound to our foe,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: "Stick to the Devil you know."

On the first Feminian Sandstones we were promised the Fuller Life
(Which started by loving our neighbour and ended by loving his wife)
Till our women had no more children and the men lost reason and faith,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: "The Wages of Sin is Death."

In the Carboniferous Epoch we were promised abundance for all,
By robbing selected Peter to pay for collective Paul;
But, though we had plenty of money, there was nothing our money could buy,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: "If you don't work you die."

Then the Gods of the Market tumbled, and their smooth-tongued wizards withdrew
And the hearts of the meanest were humbled and began to believe it was true
That All is not Gold that Glitters, and Two and Two make Four
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings limped up to explain it once more.

As it will be in the future, it was at the birth of Man
There are only four things certain since Social Progress began.
That the Dog returns to his Vomit and the Sow returns to her Mire,
And the burnt Fool's bandaged finger goes wabbling back to the Fire;

And that after this is accomplished, and the brave new world begins
When all men are paid for existing and no man must pay for his sins,
As surely as Water will wet us, as surely as Fire will burn,
The Gods of the Copybook Headings with terror and slaughter return!

A freshman congress critter is an overnight media darling and an enemy for conservatives to rally against. She hasn’t done anything yet (and won’t) because she doesn’t have any power in the house even with Democrats in control. She’s a junior representative, she won’t get any good appointments or lead anything. She’s just going to be an obnoxious, loud/whiny twat.

Everyone is wasting so much energy over her and it’s pointless because republicans control the senate (and will even after 2020) and the presidency. So she can’t change anything, just tweet her dumb hottakes and posture to appease the leftist idiots on twatter.

The only winners in Cortez's election are the trash-tier "media" sites. Which is probably most of them at this point.

She's fuckable and she's a walking, talking clickbait article generator with no ability to implement her ideas politically. Get those clicks while you can before people figure this out.

She's so obviously an attempt for Democrats to find their own Trump, what with her pandering to the Bernouts and SJWs on whatever issue and her extremely uninformed hot takes on political issues. Any supposed "right-wing" freakouts over her (aside from Ben Shapiro) are obviously manufactured to boost her media profile instead of Republicans being genuinely afraid of her.

The last person the media tried to astroturf into a left-wing Trump was the Creepy Porn Lawyer, and look at how well that turned out for his career. I don't see a bright future for AOC's time in DC.

I see her as a thorn in the centrist’s side and basically a guinea pig for the left. She can throw out her insane commie ideas and see what resonates, although, twatter is proven not the place to understand the feelings of the country only the fringe millennials.

AOC and any other politician that wants to make the US more akin to Northern Europe "Welfare States" seem to conveniently forget that this Nordic model only works due to a way lower population. And as soon as the population increases or there is an influx of migrants, that socio-economic model begins to struggle.

It would never work for the US simply because there's too many people (among other factors ofc, but it amazes me that everyone seems to conveniently forget that it's a question of demographics).
All the rich and medium class US residents wouldn't be able to support all the unemployed and poor of the country, even with 44+% tax rates (which is the norm in Northern countries). The rich would simply declare their taxes elsewhere, and the middle class would get cucked.
And the government wouldn't be able to reach the level of public spending of Nordic states because it still won't have enough income from higher taxes to completely remodel and invest in infrastructures and public health and all the good things.

The reason that welfare socio-economic model does works in these states, and that there isn't that much uproar about the 40-44% flat tax rate is because people generally feel they're getting their money's worth, so to speak. The public infrastructures work well and efficiently, healthcare is free and arguably among the best in the world, public schools are actually good and have better credentials and teachers than the horror that the U.S public schools appear to be...
It even boils down to simple things like public transport. Good luck getting anywhere by bus in cities like L.A. And speaking from experience, your domestic train system is horrible. Whereas in Europe, owning a car is more impractical than anything if you live in a city.

Want to know why Finland is the happiest country on Earth? And why the government gives baby starter kits to every expecting parent filled with clothes, toys, and sheets? And why unemployed people get 1k euros / month for several years until they find a job? Because they only have 5 million people, and thus the government can afford such expenditures.
If you want that "universal healthcare", "welfare state" model to even have a remote chance at succeeding in the States, just gas half the population. That would be a good start.

Point is, that system would fail in the US because of the population, just as it is failing in countries like France atm because of the increase in demographics due to immigration (and thus too many people leeching from the system with not enough State income to support them all). And I still don't understand how AOC keeps forgetting that considering it's the first thing you study in Econ, which she supposedly has a degree in.

Also factor in that the US basically guarantees the protection of those countries. At any other point in history such a defenseless Europe would have been steamrolled.

I have a Norwegian penpal who said exactly this. When I was learning about socialism and if it really worked, she said Scandinavia was a different case where the model could work. You need a population of people who value helping each other out, even if it means higher taxes. It actually MUST be one of their highest values, as freedom is to Americans. If you have a group of people who all agree to this and have almost no cultural differences, the model can possibly work (Not to mention as another person said, having a superpower to protect you also helps a ton as you don't really to provide for your own defenses).

But even then socialism isn't sustainable. Venezuela was the rainbow country of South America at one point. It took only two generations to show that socialism truly is bullshit and I do wonder if Scandinavia will still be the utopia of the world 50 years from now
