I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

Ocasio-Cortez responds to carbon footprint exposé: I’m just ‘living in the world’
Figures. For being an “environmentalist”, she sure sucks at it. The article said that near her headquarters, she was a minute walk from a train, yet she decides to do Uber and Lyft instead. This is especially ironic considering her great train plan in her GND.

I'll bet she never used the subway even when she was brokeass "Alex from the Bronx". She strikes me as the sort of hipster poser who Ubers everywhere, because they're too scared to go down in the tunnels where the CHUDs dwell.

She's going to have to go with the DeBlasio play book and stage a 'riding the subway' PR stunt. After her staff does a sweep and roust of the smelly homeless, of course.

Come on, Omar, we know you don't have any allegiance to traditional American values. Don't try to virtue signal by saying you're a big fan of America now.

You know it's bad when Dinkins looks more relatable than these two dipshits.

She also can’t use regular cabs because the brown poors who drive them are icky.

That’s the best thing about the woke set’s love for “disruptive” companies, they’ll take artificial cheapness (there’s a reason cabs are more expensive than Lyft or Uber), comfort, and convenience over ensuring a living wage for the working class, even or especially when the working class people in question are the brown immigrants the woke set goes crazy for.

I lived in New York for several years, so I know what assholes New York cabbies can be, but I also live for rank liberal hypocrisy. Also, if AOC et al had come of age while Giuliani was still mayor, they would have accused him of “literal Nazism” for trying to curtail the worst asshole behavior of New York cabbies, even though a nice, comfortable, carefree ride is why they use Lyft/Uber even in New York.

This irony reminds me of how the formerly-hated Dubya's house is insanely efficient and environment-friendly. And yet, so many who claim to care about the environment can't be bothered to stop chartering private jets, much less try to make their expensive houses more energy-efficient.

The "woke" crowd (and the radical left in general) has been pretty openly anti-Semitic for quite awhile now. It's like built-in planned obsolescence for a political movement. They'll push this shit too hard too fast and before you know it these people will be ones the media keeps calling racists instead of the current scapegoat (dang dirty conservatives). Stereotypes aside, Jews really do control a very large portion of the mainstream media in the US. Go on and keep pissing off that demographic, woke lefties. That'll be fun to watch.

Woke people are obsessively pro Israel until Conservatives aren't.

Real talk. You have people talking about literally every single bad thing that Israel does because they don't have oil. All they do is make high-tech parts and shit like that meanwhile everyone else around them has oil and hates Jews and spends that oil money on how Israel is literally Nazis 2.0

And BiBi wants them to not get rid of him because otherwise they have a bunch of shitskins killing them.

It's interesting that by making these arguments, these twits admit that they don't want to live in the world that they describe as ideal, and that no one would unless forced to do so by threat of government jackboots. Because they certainly could start paying more in taxes, having a minimal carbon footprint, etc., but they don't because no one's putting a gun to their head like they want to put guns to everyone else's heads.

Which reveals that it’s about power and control more than anything else. This proud lahtinx is already thoroughly corrupt and she’s been in office in just two months. That must set some kind of record, even with the Congressional Black Caucus.

God I wish I could find an appropriate gif explaining this but do you remember the episode of The Simpsons where Krusty gets into congress and he's trying to be taken seriously? Then some seasoned politician puts the clown in his place saying something like, "freshman congressmen don't get to pass shit. You've gotta pee in a bucket until your third term."

I really wish congress actually worked like that sometimes.

She really is Trump on the left, she cannot leave anything alone. She has to respond on twitter.

I tend to think of it as them playing the same game

Trump is old as fuck, and his experience at it predates the living memory of AOC (along with most of her supporters).
And when he's not been an active participant, Trump has kibitzed & watched it for so long, he's seen all the iterations, knows how to ride the book's bleeding edges, when to tear pages out, and has a carny-like knack for heckling & using a bullhorn.

AOC is of the game; she's a game-piece that's suddenly been given player-level faculties, yet she knows of nothing outside the game itself. Occasio-Cortex now has a vague awareness of the board; but she has no idea about the table, the huge forces set around it (with Trump being one of them). She's still focused on rules fairness & Trump's avatar, not the man himself or the endgame (which has nothing to do with being fair).

When the inevitable loss happens, AOC doesn't even have the option of flipping the board. The best she can hope for is to be allowed her toys when she's sent home.

AOC, Omar, and Tlaib are not power brokers and are thus easy to dispose of. I’m sure all three ladies are certain they carry a lot of power but that only highlights how disposable they are. The DNC can do without them and replace them with some other pee oh cee that can get with the program. The DNC can then get the media to not cover it and these woke bimbos get forgotten about by the end of the week.

That’s incredibly embarrassing, either you practice what you preach or you’re a massive hypocrite.

I guess Uber is suddenly ok again with the progressives after their lengthy dragging over bro culture and sexual harassment/misogyny.

Probably the most influential statement on my own politics came from someone I know.

"The Left talks about how they stand up for the lower classes and yet they want to go after the rich...the ones that own the businesses that provide jobs to the lower classes".

It really got my brain thinking back in the day and I can't help but be reminded of it every so often when an AOC or someone of that ilk does something dumb. Like the recent "victory" over keeping an Amazon headquarters out of NY...yeah you got your win, but that's a lot of jobs that could have gone to your constituents that just flew out the window.

Imagine the many faces of AOC you'd see, if she were to ever arrive at a campaign stop in a State Park somewhere deep in flyover country, and be told it's that it's another 10mi by foot, along with a bunch of disabled vets humping it with full rucks & blowed-off limbs.

Or maybe 20mi on horseback, through the real borderlands. It's disappointing she'd have a full SS escort were it to happen during the inevitable national bid, otherwise she's prime meat for the coyotes.

What's even more egregious is that afterwards, Cuomo & Co. evidently offered Amazon huge "incentives" to return after it turned out their plan was massively unpopular.

Provided Bezos dances for them, or takes the fall if asked. That's the Cuomo-way.
