I've noticed a lot of KF users and lolcows here are fans of Tamagotchi, the Japanese virtual pet game that started up in the late 90's. I recently got back into it as an adult, having picked up a Tamagotchi ON and the My Tamagotchi Forever app on my phone.

Does anyone here raise and trade Tamagotchi from any generation?

Recently, Bandai announced the Tamagotchi PIX, but I have to admit it looks a little gimmicky and I'm not into it:

I didn't know we had Tamagotchi Rights Activists!
Sorry I didn't post a description or anything when I posted it. I was on my way out the door and I wanted to share those videos before I forgot.

I'm not into Tamagotchi, but those talks are interesting and mostly suitable for a non-techie audience. The presenter is very good.

I do! I have pretty much every version of the Connections from many years ago, along with a Japanese Entama and Uratama. I also have two of the Japanes remakes of the original, a mini, and I recently picked up one of those Pac-Man Tamagotchi Nanos.

Of the color screen tamas, I only have a Meets and an On, but they're quite fun. (And a few AliExpress bootlegs of dubious quality.)

Not sure how I feel about the Tamagotchi Pix. I love cheap, crappy "toy" cameras, but I don't know if you'll be able to move any of the pictures you take to another device. I'm also not crazy about the fact that it doesn't seem to have physical buttons.

Tamagotchi is fucking based, excuse my sperging but I have a decent tiny collection with both ones from my childhood (Gen 4 iirc?) and newer ones like P's. The ones with NFC seem fun to fuck around with but right now I don't think I should be spending money on kids toys given the current state of...everything. Pix looks like shite but that's most of the western-exclusive Tamagotchis for you.
The Tamagotchi hacking scene really intrigues me now as an adult, and it kinda sucks it's mostly one person doing all of the work. I've seen another person do presentations about hacking older ones which is pretty neato. If I wasn't lazy I'd make awful politically incorrect hacks for P's but I fucking hate RFID so much.
Also those Tamagotchi forums are like mini lolcow havens. I remember years ago it was mostly kids, and now it's adults with weird identities. Never change modern internet!

Thanks for coming to my manchild tedtalk xoxoxo

Yeah, same. I have a feeling it'll be sort of like the AR feature in Pokemon Go, which My Tamagotchi Forever already did, ten times better, with an actual game attached to it.

Those forums sound like a good read. There are two personal lolcows I have who are into Tamagotchi (including one who has a thread in Animal Control) and they're both adults with weird identities in their 30s. I'm not letting it ruin something fun for me, though.

Heh... Tamagotchi. Now that's a name I haven't heard in a looooong time.

I remember there was a site way back when I was about 10 run by this one woman who practically hoarded these things (as well as Digimon V-Pets) which had randomized midi music that played on every page you clicked. She also wrote a creepypasta about them before creepypastas were even a thing.

And while I'm at it - hey, @Kuchipatchi, care to give us your thoughts on Tamagotchi Right Activists? You are a Tamagochi after all.

For anyone with an android, you can download the apk of the original Tamagotchi that was available in the middle of the 2010's before it got taken down

Link 2

It SHOULD still work, even though it was made for older android versions. If not, there's the "L.I.F.E." version (Link)... not sure what the differences are

I loved the Tamagotchi Connection and had maybe 3 of them, V2 , V3 and V4 if I remember right. V3 was my favorite and I had a pretty long generation streak going on it. I kinda wish I still had that one for nostalgia sake, but at least one of them I blew the reset button out from trying to un-kill some of my Tamagotchis.

I have a Tamagotchi Ps and a Tamagotchi and Friends currently. I really want the Tamagotchi On as well as the Sanrio and 20th Anniversary editions of the Tamagotchi Mix but those last two especially are kinda pricey, At some point I really should pick up a Connection v3 and v4 purely for nostalgia reasons because they’re the ones I had as a kid. There’s also an obscure Mothra tamagotchi that looks cool as fuck.

I dunno if any of you ever played the DS games but Tamagotchi Corner Shop 3 was the shit back when I was like 8.

Thank you! Here is the link to the 1997 freeware PC game:

If anyone lurking this thread wants to try out Tamagotchi, this is a cute first game and still runs great on Windows 10!

It was interesting as a pioneer kids product in an era when all you had were monotone LCD screen Nokias, but the market is considerably much more crowded now.

Also, some of the earlier pets were sort of weird pixelly blob things & on top that, since they could die, the relative lack of pixels made you fill in the blanks.

Anyone that can't take care of pixels don't deserve to have us.
That's why the batteries are out of my Tamagotchi 4U.
I do plan to get the latest English release so I can understand the menu better.

Speaking of 4U, I downloaded the cracked phone app but it doesn't work with my phone. Does anyone know what I can do to get extra games on my device? I hate playing the same two games to earn money to buy treats for my Tamagotchi.

  • Corner Shop 1, 2 and 3
  • PartyOn
  • Tamagotchi 4U (Japanese)
  • Kuchipatchi lanyard
  • First film (English and Italian)
  • Happiest Story in the Universe (French)
  • Kuchipatchi badge
I did have the Eevee crossover toy but I sold it cos I didn't like it and I needed money.
I definitely want to get a plushie of my fave Tamagotchis but cos I just culled my plush collection recently, only small ones.
