I want to use a debloated Windian 11LTSC and am not dogmatic about OS and just resorted to using the easiest Troonix distro because it just works better and takes less to set up, downloading Steam and just playing in Ubuntu or Mint takes way less time than debloating and optimizing windows and setting up drivers
But I get drops to 40 FPS in a boomer shooter like Beyond Citadel in 11 LTSC and 120 locked on the same hardware in Troonix using ProtonGE so I have no clue what the fuck is going on
I want to remain on Windows but even LTSC is getting Jeeted somehow, I have 64 gigs of DDR4 and somehow Brave browser, steam, and a game amounted to 20 gigs used when 10 LTSC never did that
You've joined in the middle of my blackout, and these thread grudges are older than that. But this time I caught a thread ban over the smallest thing yet. So much so that I can only come to a conclusion that certain posters in that thread are the embodiment of what I've been ranting about for years, which is genuinely pathetic. Running off to jannies over three posts after seven months of silence is a new record though, I had to work harder for that before, but I got the message and that's fine. I find it fucking hilarious.
Besides, you've noticed yourself that the people in that thread have a tendency to say idiotic things as well, like regurgitating the ancient myth of Microsoft being at war with Linux and actively trying to EE&E it out of fear it'll dethrone Windows, which is as old as the Linux kernel itself, and no one who isn't a Linux evangelist believes in, since it makes zero sense. If the dominance of Windows was due to Microsoft's power and not desktop Linux's failure to compete with it, then Linux based distros wouldn't be the ones dominating the enterprise market. Really, this type of rhetoric comes from the types of people that piss me off and drive me into these spergouts. Linux evangelists, people (ironically) obsessed with Windows, how people aren't switching to Linux despite how bad it's getting, and quick to use a cope mechanism like "Microsoft is undermining Linux out of fear" conspiracy theories, or the "it's the OEM installs" theory that would quickly fall apart if you were to confront those types with a realistic scenario of which distro would be chosen and how it would affect Linux communities with this sudden influx of Linux users that don't understand Linux. Such illogical types reside in that thread and you'll likely see that yourself in due time.
By the end of the day, it's an emotional feud between me and the posters in that thread that doesn't affect you. You're smarter than me, more knowledgeable than me, but most importantly, you can keep your head cool. And you're fairly new to this microcosm of OS slapfights. That's why no one said anything negative towards you. I caught a thread ban because I reopened an old wound, so to speak.
And like I said, I mostly wanted to rant about the padding, and especially the fetish for animating everything. I could've done it in the thread this was posted, but I'm not welcome there, and there wasn't a thread that would be fit for general software discussion which I would've preferred, so I chose to rant about it here. I really hate the fetish for animating everything and I cannot see anyone that is impressed by it as human. It doesn't help that the types of "people" to repost those types of rice videos are Indian either, they seem to be the most impressed by those excessive Hyprland rices, unsurprisingly.
You know what they are?
They're the equivalent of the 2000's era car tuning culture. A short historical blip where it was cool to be as tacky and impractical as possible. Except people quickly grew out of that, realized it was stupid and moved on, and never really acted like it was anything but stupid fun. Here, people didn't grow out of it, still do it, but worst of all, they glorify it as some sort of great practical advantage. No, no one's gonna use their computer like this. It's the equivalent of the 3D desktops of the 2000's, except those were actually fun and people acknowledged they were a fun, impractical novelty. I wouldn't have any issues with DE ricing if it was kept with the idea of "this is a fun show system", yet people love to glorify them as "the way to use a computer" because they're easily impressionable idiots and it angers me to no end that these idiots happen to be the one that have the most power over forming public opinions over things as techincally complex as operating systems. Is it really stupid for me to get this angry over something this meaningless? Yes, very, but that's what I'm known for and I can't stop myself.
Unused RAM is wasted RAM. Especially if you have 64GB of it and rarely hit half of it's usage, I also have 64GB of DDR4 and right how with a bunch of background bullshit I have running all the time and a web browser, I'm sitting at around 14GB right now. Modern browsers are RAM hogs on their own, but I don't see a reason to mope about not using 4GB of RAM for everything including a web browser when I have 64GB of it. Mope about it if you're actually stressing those 64GB and you're starting to get slowed down by the swap file. I also run an e-mail client that's basically a second resource hogging web browser, and Everything, where I have ~4.8 million files and folders indexed and loaded into RAM for instant searching. This 14GB is mostly my doing, and again, it's dumb to blame it all on Windows when even on Linux a web browser will eat an unreasonable amount of RAM without any tabs open.
RAM usage should never be the be-all-end-all metric of how an OS performs. Windows and Linux have fundamentally different memory management forms, it's like comparing apples to oranges. The real shit test is running on a machine with a limited amount of RAM, and seeing how well the OS handles itself with a constraint like that. How will it juggle the memory between the RAM and the swap file, will it start chugging or will it be smart enough to keep the most important things in the fast RAM. That's the "Windows vs Linux RAM usage" shittest nobody ever does, because it's boring, technical, the types of tech enthusiasts to be engaged in this slapfight will scoff at since they'll have way more than 4GB so they're never affected by RAM constraints, and most importantly, it won't let you act like a smug condescending cunt on the Internet for approval easily, and that's why people engage in these slapfights, first and foremost.
it's always the same ugly Chinese Android head unit UI styling they go for, even KDE has the same problem of looking like a desktop mode for Android 5. They have no taste nor respect for UX on desktop computers.
I hate how it feels like nearly everyone skipped over the Metro UI/Material Design 1.0 era minimalism. It only lasted for a couple of years until Android went to Material Design 2.0, Microsoft went to flueny design, and most other companies like Apple just skipped over it. It feels like everyone went straight from clunky Trooniger Aero to sluggish blob minimalism. Everyone seems to ignore the slick, fast, well defined, function over form type of minimalism of the early 2010s.
I really don't understand why ricers don't attempt to recreate the design that I am talking about. It's either stupid r/unixporn minimalist shit like the video above or clunky trooniger aero rices.

Well, I actually like the Aero design. Issue is that troons aren't really copying the Aero design as they are bastardizing the idea of photorealistic UI and doing what chinks used to do in the late 2000s and early 2010s: A BAD FUCKING JOB of designing a cohesive and nice looking UI which if you're going for photorealism requires far more attention so that it doesn't look wrong.
I find there to be a real distinction over Metro UI (WinPhone 7-8, Zune, Windows 8) and Modern UI (Windows 10 2016-2018, 2019 and beyond shift towards the design rules we see today though of course do retain the previous Modern UI stuff from yesteryear) and even then when it came to Metro it was always implemented in very slightly different ways (with Windows 8 IMO being the worst implementation of the design). Windows 8 is just too chunky looking and uses these bold colours everywhere, I really don't like it a lot of the time (though autism be damned the text at the side of the ring animation on login/shutdown looks way better than beneath as seen in Win10). Modern UI takes a much more slimmer approach emphasizing thin outlines and letting bold colours be used as an accent rather than the primary and IMO is not just a great evolution upon Metro UI but what it should've been in the first place (barring the animations, I have no idea why Microsoft just didn't bother with them, they even went out of their way to disable 3D transformations in DWM so even the Windows opening and closing just looks flat compared to 8, it's just so weird). Modern UI was at its best around 2018 with the introduction of some Fluent design features such as the hovering glow you see in stuff like the calendar and whatnot given that it did not change but instead added upon what was there, you can see this by comparing the 2018 and 2019 builds and seeing that fucking ugly fuzzy acrylic look that permeates the 2019 update, with the 2018 update you could actually see shit behind the blur, it genuinely looked nice, the blacks looked black instead of this ugly grey we have now and all was good in the world (lol).
Anyway, enough of me sperging about the most benign shit imaginable that I obviously don't understand well and getting back on topic: trannies are gay and and want everything soft, round, bubbly, floating and pastel coloured because they're a bunch of gimps who cut their balls off and need their e-mother (40 year old man on Discord) to hold them. Also they're both not very original and equally don't understand any kind of design very well so they end copying amateurish shit keeping both the poor contrast and UX that makes you want to stab your eyes out.
Windows also has supersampling and the entire lossless scaling suite, Adrrnalin software, Arc control with 4x frame gen so its more than that
My hyperoptimized Windian 11 install I set up like a troonix distro with a package manager just gives abysmal performance relative to what I get on Troonix, I always tell people to get Libreoffice and the KDE programs on windows too
I keep a dual boot with 10 LTSC because I am not a troonix evangalist and simply use what works best, but I hate how Troonix is simply giving me better performance which is all I care about and lets me use fsr 4.1.1 on RDNA2 earlier(even if the open source 4.0.2c is better)
Some Android phones can emulate Cyberpunk via a windows emulator and mac gaming is getting good, a $500 Macbook Neo gets decent FPS in Cyberpunk, so the writing is on the wall unless Microsoft fires all the Indians to make windows great again which will not happen
I really only care about what works at the end of the day. I do not care about the technical aspects GoG and Epic are following Valve to Troonix only because windows performance is so abysmal relative to what it should be and by them doing that Troonix is becoming super easy to use
You should write some autism code for my ss13 server before you kill yourself that way there are relics of your existence later other than just windows sperging I'm sure we can come to an accomodation

Windows memory management is TRASH and breaks completely if you disable the paging file. Even on my desktop with 128GB of memory programs would keep crashing or complaining about low memory unless I enabled a tiny pagefile somewhere. I have never seen Linux have any problems like that when swap is disabled, even on systems with <2GB of memory everything worked fine.

i believe this part of the code is what causes their current retarded focus of webapp in windows 11 to fuck shit up, especially with the win 11 AI thing that is a source or recent complaints because it eats 1GB of ram minimum, because of this shit i haven't updated the family pc yet and told them not to.
but hey, if they migrate to webapps they won't need to hire white men since jeets can always use stackoverflow to help them with a ton of issues...
The fact Windows Server still exists is a testament to what a godawful shambling pile of crap Linux is. Free UNIX? Sign me the FUCK up. Because basically the only reason Windows Server took over is SPARC, Power, and PA-RISC servers cost a fortune, and then Itanium ended up being an absolute dog. Linux copies the file system and some basic concepts from UNIX, but it's a fucking piece of junk. Windows Server needs a lot of babysitting and frequent rebooting, because it's crap derived from consumer desktop OS, while Linux has an insane level of fragility that I can't believe we just tolerate, due to it being a hobby project run by autistic speds and trannies.

Windows server is only in use because there is a generation of sysadmins who work in SMB that only ever got Microsoft certs and are allergic to a command line. It's pretty much nonexistent in any large environments that actually need serious server infrastructure.
Linux instability varies by distro which is part of the problem. Its much more stable than Windows, but that doesnt mean its free of flaws. For whatever reason Ubuntu server still seems to be many peoples default, and Canonical is a terrible steward of the server market. I think its easier to get away with these things because larger tech companies have simply engineered their way around any instability. It doesnt actually matter if you have an occasional OS issue when you're running Kubernetes. Something like NixOS or an atomic distro are really a much better approach, but theyre new and niche enough thay businesses are slow to adopt. They dislike the unfamiliar.
Updating a Linux major release (e.g. RHEL 9 - > RHEL 10) is basically guaranteed to break your entire stack. Windows isn't perfect, but it isn't even in the same universe of badness as Linux.
We have, and the sheer volume of resources consumed to keep Linux from shitting itself makes me wonder if we're really saving any money at all over the Solaris days. How many resources are consumed by the OpenShift ecosystem, which is little more than a workaround to Linux?
I'm interested, fire away. I have noticed the Steam client hogging close to one Gigabyte of RAM at times even when idle after their UI update, but six years ago it would top out at about 300 Megabytes.

That is because they ditched thier existing GUI engine, VGUI (and also Microsoft' Trident web rendering engine) with what else, but an embeded version of CHROMIUM

According to a friend who lives in Washington, its because Gabe is absent playing on his yacht while Valve is hiring milennial soydevs who aren't the world class standard valve used to hold themselves to. Its the beginning of the end. GoG has been steadily improving though

Some troonix distros use Zram for this exact reason of precaching for performance, Garuda specifically, but it never ever got to 20 gigs on 10 LTSC or Garuda for me
