This is circa... I think 14 minutes ago (3:45 Eastern Standard Time).

You may still view and post comments on the website version.

I'm not posting app screenshots because I'm not about to email them from my phone to my laptop.

EDIT: I, of course, ask whoever is interested in testing my claims to confirm or deny this. I am not lying.

They're still showing up okay for me, maybe it's a selective rollout?

Yeah, it isn't just you, I can't see comments on mobile now.View attachment 6649736
I just checked for an update (it updated for me yesterday), no update, still seeing comments. What bullshit if this is coming for everyone. The new popup comments were cycled through different ones to get a feel for audience reactions while you watched the best parts of the app. YouTube is so cucked.

Wtf I was actually going to post in the YouTube censorship thread because I thought they just removed the ability on bigbunjeeees new video or something because it happened right while watching that.

This is the absolute dumbest thing they could have done.

Being able to comment was literally the only thing that kept me using their app instead of a YouTube front end. Taking that away. I promise is going to hurt them. I'm sure I'm not the only person who this was true for.

My partner just asked me as their YouTube didn't have comments showing but mine does. It'd be really funny and stupid if this is some spiteful backlash because of the election lol
Very possible, when Joe was getting nothing but downvotes on his videos on the official White House channel, that's when they removed public dislikes.
Ironic how anti-social social media has gotten every time leftists didn't get their way.

I wouldn't put is past them to hide comments to sanitize youtube even more then they have but it's possible it's just the app being dogshit as always. It's hard to overstate just fucking trash the youtube app really is, sometimes it crashes so badly that I can't even force close it and have restart my phone, so I wouldn't be surprised if they just broke comments for a ton of people. Just use the site on the brave app its so much more stable and braves built in ad block still works on it.
It seems after a couple hours my comments are working again so they either fixed it or rolled back the change

Years and events that cucked Youtube
2016
Trump winning caused them to ban edgy shit and all right wingers
2020
biden getting millions of dislikes caused them to remove that
2024
trump winning again mixed with negative comments on all of kamala's everything caused them to remove comments. There is also "sign in to protect our community" on every video now

they're going to move forward with that weird highlight thing. I guarantee it. Youtube is so deeply fucked I don't know how it's still going. Rumble is shaping up to be something amazing in the future with how much attention it's getting. there's also Trump's social media laws that I'm hoping will save normie internet but i'm still unsure

On one hand YT would definitely really prefer if there weren't comments. They'd prefer if the site was nothing but an endless stream of ads and paid propaganda.
On the other hand, comments are still treated as a measure of engagement and big creators (including actual companies) use pinned comments, so I'd wait to see if this is some type of mistake/a dumb temporary experiment.

I figured it was the one battlefield videogame announcement that made them disable dislikes, because they realized corporations weren't going to pay them for promotion on the site if there was the possibility that the proles could show up to dislike their video and turn it into major negative press.

What frontend do you use? I tried using Newpipe and some fork called Pipepipe, but they both stopped playing videos after around 2 weeks of use. Libretube works, but the UI is so clunky that I would rather just use the browser client.
