Except the politics NEED to be front and center in Dune. The book wouldn't have been anywhere near as immediately captivating for me if the paranoia the Atreides felt arriving on Arrakis wasn't front and center. Knowing they're walking into a trap, knowing that they can't refuse, desperately searching for a way out before its too late. For that to work you NEED all that politics and lore about the Imperium.
Without it Dune is just...kind of empty. And lo and behold, the movie is empty without it. If part 2 continues the way it does they'll cut out all the cool Fremen culture and history too and it'll be just as dull.
To stay on topic;
God damn they are incredibly loud. Alex needs to be kept in small groups otherwise things get overwhelming.
Gonna watch it all anyway. I like about half of the people in that RV. Maybe a bit less. Anything with the waterfilter salesman and Luke is worth sitting through.
