And once again, that isn't how politics works. In 2028 Desantis will have been retired as Governor of FL for two years, and the only elected office which would make sense for him, Senator wouldn't even be up in 2026. Ask Chris Christie how well that goes. Trump is not owed the nomination, but the main issue is a lot of the hard core going full sunk cost fallacy on him.

Let's assume Trump wins the primary, runs in 2024, and by some miracle of God wins the presidency. One, he will NOT be a popular president, the country will go through another four years of decent to good policy and horrible fucking resistance narratives along with Trump headlines about the latest shit he decided to drunk tweet. So 2028 comes along, do you really think ANY R is going to have a chance in the follow up to that?

Trump's fans are enthusiastic, the turns out a lot of voters who wouldn't normally vote, but he also turns out more against him. The only reason he won in 2016 was because Hillary was literally the worst presidential candidate in modern times with a huge likability gap vs an outsider. But 2020 was a major wakeup call. Trump has zero ground game. His constantly rotating staff never lets him set up a bulwark and in the end he was beaten by a dementia patient.

And that is because people fucking hate him, and are scared of him in equal measure. He is the big bad boogeyman to the moderates that make up a good part of the country and swing elections. Thet have, and WILL go out to vote against him, and anything he stands for. And we have three elections now that show that on balance, there are more of him than excited maga voters.

And much of the support Trump had is evaporating due to flat out idiotic comments over the last week.
 
The DeSantis vs. Trump argument is kind of dumb, just let the two of them go at it in the primaries and then whoever win gets the support of the other. The idea that someone should just be handed the nominee because they deserve it for some abstract reason or just because of optics is silly.

Anyway, tonight's episode was hilarious. Tim finally met his match, the female guest, Amanda Milius, wouldn't shut up, to a point where even the chat was telling Tim to shut her up. When Tim finally got fed up with her and got visibly irritated, the chat started laughing at him because he got a taste of his own medicine, being interrupted constantly.

Desantis is not going to run for president he just won re-election, it's just forced, people want him to, he's not going to abandon Florida after 1 year in a 4 year term because of the risk of who his replacement might be. Although desantis is obviously the stronger candidate, Trump will win the GOP primaries and will lose to Biden in the general because of his baggage nobody platforming him, and vote blue no matter who, I mean Pennsylvania Democrats literally voted for a stroke victim and a dead guy.

Maybe so, but now Tim is arguing that we should try and sue to prevent mail-in voting. But if he accepts the premise that the ballots are all legal, then what is his argument for why it should be outlawed? Because he doesn't like that stinky normal people are voting when they aren't glued to their TVs and jotting down every last detail about their candidate?

His attempt to fight from the center is screwing him here. If we accept that all mail-in votes are legitimate then there is no legitimate reason to oppose it.

And of course, he has no evidence that this is happening, he's only saying it is the reason because his parents encouraged him to do the same thing.

Absolutely pathetic. Acting like an elitist and saying that people who aren't informed should be restricted from voting through bureaucracy is not conservative and it is certainly not libertarian.
 
Tim just spouts whatever comes to his mind. He reads the news and says the first thing that comes to his mind while also being easy to shift around by talking fast. He also thought Kari was a great candidate... she got more disciplined after the primaries but her whole stop the steal, and not in the "we need to change the laws for faster, more efficient and secure voting" was not going to play well to a lot of indies.

Yeah, not quite. Mail in, especially mass mail in has a lot of its own issues. The biggest of which is that it adds a LOT more social pressure into the votes themselves. Closet liberal in a house of conservatives or vice versa. Have fun standing up to your parents who have been supporting you for the last few years since college to vote against what they want. Or people going door to door, allows for extremely high-pressure tactics to get the vote out. We don't allow campaign workers at the polls themselves, they have to stay a certain distance away for this very reason. The ballot is SUPPOSED to be private, and by its nature Mail in changes that. Hell, even bussing people to the polls didn't guarantee they would vote for your guy. With ballot harvesting, you don't even have that.

Then we get the fact that so many ballots are in before the candidates have even debated. Can't tell me voting with LESS information is preferable to voting with more.

But that ship has sailed. If the GOP wants to win in these areas they need to start harvesting ASAP, even going into left-leaning areas if need be.

All of that is just a discussion of tactics and strategies, there is no moral or legal argument there for making any changes to procedures. If you make an argument like this, people will just shrug and say "If the Democrats can do it, why can't the Republicans?"

If you want to argue that voters are being intimidated into voting a certain way, well, that's the voter's issue. The voter is still, ultimately, making a choice to vote one way or another. No one is going to see what the voter actually wrote on the ballot unless the voter votes in front of the people in his house, which, there's no guarantee that's happening.

As far as whether voting before or after a debate, or having less information is more or less preferable, again, that's not an argument for changing policy. Some people are irresponsible with their voting. But a lot of those people wouldn't have bothered watching the debate to begin with, so why does it matter that they voted beforehand?

Any argument you are making here is trying to control or swing voters in one way or another. But people should be allowed to vote, however they like. Even if they don't know anything, even if they don't pay attention, even if they're just voting the way their mom or their wife wants them to, that's their choice. And they should still have a say in who runs the government. Even in the worst case scenario, when a person legitimately has no idea who they want to vote for and their mother tells them "vote for this person", and the guy turns around and votes the way his mother told him, that was still legitimate because the voter is saying "okay, well, my mom is a good person, she knows what's best, and I'm going to trust her". That is no different than someone who tunes in to a political pundit who argues for something and then agreeing to vote based on that pundit because "yeah, I trust that guy, he knows what he's talking about".

I think the biggest problem that goes most untalked about is that mass mail in voting allows any party to buy votes from people. Tim constantly brings up people knocking door to door to collect ballots by asking. Dude they are going door to door but they are going with a fat wallet or baseball bat or both. That's ballot harvesting 101.

You're putting together a very convincing argument for why Democracy is a failed experiment and efforts to "Fix it" have only slowed down its inevitable decline into tyranny by the masses.

We need to stop pretending that everyone should vote. If you don't care enough to get out on election day and trudge your way uphill through the snow both ways to the voting booth to vote in person then having a say in who represents you obviously isn't worth that much to you and you won't mind if we take it away.
