Agreed, he seems to assume from the start that everyone disagreeing with this woman is arguing that they shouldn't have to pay at all, rather than debating the amount.
The thing that annoys me about all of this is they expect men to adhere to old ideals while women don't. If I'm the one paying for things, what is she giving up in return? If it's being the mother of my children and taking care of them, then great, it's a small price to pay, but otherwise the expectation in a modern society makes no sense.

Vivek's a smart guy. I know that arranged marriage in India these days is basically more like arranged dating, not just "you and you are getting married, deal with it," so in a way it's probably better than dating apps. If your parents know a lot of people, they can probably all find you a good match.

This might be an immigrant thing, but I've known a lot of immigrant men who wanted an arranged marriage despite being very modern and all of them were from different cultures and countries. A lot of it has to do with them adopting some of the traditions of their parents, which aren't always in line with the views of women in the US, and some of it is also that it's hard to meet people these days with dating apps or bars being great places to get laid but not if you want kids which young men from outside the US usually want to the point I've known a few relationships that were ruined on the basis of the guy wanting kids but the girl not wanting them despite both being from other countries.
Man, I can really relate, my own parents are immigrants. If they knew anybody decent, they'd have tried to set me up already; I'd love to get an arranged marriage that way. My parents actually were set up by relatives too. Sadly they don't know anybody that isn't a good ten years older or younger than me, so I'm mostly left to figure it all out myself. I do occasionally get random relatives from the old country passing along girls they know to my parents, but the girls are always ugly, and I've always got that concern about them just wanting to marry an American guy for a visa.
