Tim Wise - The racist anti-racist

Nothing too hot today apart from the customary virtue signaling, salt and retweeting dubious political figures:

And, as you would expect, Tiny Tim had to open his fucking mouth about the Las Vegas shooting.

I've been napping the past few days, so the tweets start off with salt about government response to Puerto Rico and taking a knee. The last few captures are where it gets real juicy.

"Your thought and prayers mean nothing"
What is this? Onision 2.0?

It's a common point of frustration that in lieu of proposing any reforms or regulations to make it harder for wanna-be Rambos to buy a militia's worth of guns so they can shoot up innocent people, a lot of politicians just talk about how their "thoughts and prayers" go out to the victims rather than doing, well, anything, including donating blood or to relief efforts.

Tim's far from the only person who's fed up with what comes across as almost insincere and routine at this point, but I feel like if nothing got done after Sandy Hook, when like 20 small children got gunned down by a creepy pedo thinking he was "saving" them, then nothing is going to get done. Not as long as the NRA has the balls of the country in a vice grip, anyway.

Honestly, there's a lot of his tweets that are about things I can agree or I'm also concerned about, but Twitter is so performative in its outrage, you know? It's a lot of shouting one-liners into the void and not a lot of doing anything... which is precisely what the gripe about "thoughts and prayers" is complaining about.

I remember reading this book on parenting that said that if you tell your kid that they're stupid/lazy/bad enough, eventually they internalize it and start acting that way because they feel like that's how they're expected to act.

You bring this up in SocJus circles though and point out that the way that white allies are treated is on par with emotional and psychological abuse, they come up with excuses for why they're allowed to do it. And then they turn even more potential allies against them and make more enemies, and then wonder where all these racists are coming from.

I think with some parents, telling a kid they're lazy/stupid/won't amount to anything is a misdirected, misbegotten, mistaken attempt at motivating the kid with reverse psychology; and/or if they're a True and Honest abuser, self-fulfilling prophecy who needs to blame someone else for their failures in life.

When it comes to Tiny Tim, the real party's in the comments.

So if black people work for white owned businesses, they should be put out of work when those businesses fold due to an exceptional boycott. He's too exceptional to realise that such measures would mostly impact the disproportionately black working class of Alabama, while the rich people would just move.
The biggest problem with Tiny Tim is that he's not funny. Oh, he sure thinks he's a biting social commentator, but his social media accounts are obnoxious and bereft of insight or humor. If he had some sly wit or clever jokes, he'd go over much better with audiences, but he comes across as a bully hiding behind a socially acceptable cause. As we've all seen from this thread, his Tweets are mean-spirited and, as @Pointless Pedant pointed out, completely shortsighted.

Having read none of his books, I can't comment authoritatively on the content, but if they're anything like his social media presence, I can't imagine him having anything interesting to say. Unlike Jim Goad, he's inflammatory without being insightful. I suspect when he's trying to teach people something, it's usually very dry.

I love it when people say the Nazis were left wing because the word "socialist" is in their name. Hitler rose to power and kept it early on by being staunchly anti-Communist. In fact, before he started his quest to conquer Europe, he had a lot of support in the US from people who were all atwitter about the Bolshevik menace. It's usually glossed over in history, but the Red Scare that occurred in the 1950s was actually the second such occurrence of anti-Communist hysteria. The first was in the 1920s. During the Great Depression, people on the right used the specter of Commies to argue against the New Deal, and so forth. Hitler used the Soviet Union as a convenient boogeyman to rally people to his cause, and it worked because the German Communists actually had a following in an economically devastated Germany following WWI.

Timmy also just loves loves loves to reply to people who point out that he himself is white by saying he's not white at all. He's Jewish, you see, so he doesn't benefit in any possible way.

Germany also made an Anti-Comintern Pact in 1936, devoted to opposing the Third International.

For what it's worth, there were a few Nazis who were anti-capitalism but they all got purged in 1934 after the Night of the Long Knives.
