So there are 20 something years old YouTubers who film themselves opening Boosters of childrens card games and having an orgasm everytime they find a card that sells for $10 on ebay if they´re quick enough otherwise the value drops quicker than the reputation of Michael J Hirtes.

Here are some examples of the more popular ones
( They must have spend thousands and thousands of dollars by now on them)

This one is exceptional, he got his entire card collection stolen at one point by a friend who wanted to help him move. (Maybe it was a sign of him to stop him opening Boosters of Childrens Card Games)

The clickbait thumbnail on that last one is something else. I didn't know there were people who did unboxings of Pokemon and Yugioh cards like this, but I guess it makes sense. The guy on a YouTube channel I used to watch used to open trading card packs of really random/vintage things like Bigfoot the monster truck and stuff; those were tolerable to watch because he didn't cream his pants over getting rare cards or whatever. More people need to just chill the fuck out. :c

Yuigoh and Pokemon do not have super money cards unless you are talking about serious misprints or prize cards so the insane box openings by Simply Unlucky and others is just usually clickbait.

Magic on the other hand, if you get some older packs and open busted, I could see waking the whole neighborhood.

I dont' really get unboxing videos period.

If I want to know what a product looks like in real life before I buy it I may check out 30 second clip or find a picture of one on e-bay

But a 30 minute video of someone slowing unpacking a phone and turning it on is a total mystery to me

That face, is a face of a man who was allowed to watch cartoons past the age of eight.

He tries the “PG 3” route of making his videos for literal babies by the way he speaks.

“Man those cards look so fun. Look at the colors, wooooow!!!”

I guess there are enough Toy Review Channels already on YouTube.

don't 'opening digital loot crates' clickbait videos pretty much fall into this odd category?

They've had plenty money cards. Tour guide of the underworld was going for £100+ for a single card at one point, the same with dark armed dragon and you needed to run three of those.
The gold series reprint of crush card virus topped £250 when it came out. Those are just the ones I remember before I stopped playing.

The Pokemon Evolutions set came out, pretty much a re-release of the base set, and the charizard full art I got went from $80-$50-$30 in less than a month. You pretty much have to flip the card for a profit the day you pull them.

They get paid by the game company sometimes. I know CS:GO had a big issue with giving high traffic streamers "good loot boxes" to advertise their gambling.

I don't think GF and WoTC are paying these idiots. Nor should they have to. They're just wasting their time and money. So they're a bar lower.

There's a slightly less autistic version of this that I actually enjoy watching.

There are businesses that livestream themselves opening boxes of sports cards. You can "buy in" to the box, for example, pay $100 and you get all the Yankees cards that are pulled out. It's basically tantamount to gambling, because if there aren't any Yankee cards in that box, or there are only shitty ones, you don't get your money back.

I don't even care about sports cards, but there is something oddly satisfying about watching them open the packs, as well at laughing at the idiots sperging in chat over spending hundreds of dollars and not getting any hits.

EDIT: Here's the one I watch, but there are others out there.

There is a difference between tour guide being 150 at its height and dark armed dragon going for 300 at its height and someone opening old boosters from early sets of magic where the cards can go 600+.

The secondary market, especially for Yugioh is fucking horrid. Price fluctuations, constant buy outs, and Konami reprinting money cards have killed people sitting on money cards. All you can do is "turn and burn".

Although the famous legend of some dude sucking another dudes dick for a playset of dark armed dragons when it was 300 per is funny in retrospect now.

EDIT: Guy sucking dick was not gay, he just REALLY needed Dark Armed Dragons.

I don't think it's even possible to make money selling modern trading cards unless you're running a business and buying them at wholesale or less. eBay is currently filled with shops that buy 20 cases to sort and sell. Even if you find a 1 in 100 pack card, the eBay sorter already has 10 of them and paid half the price.

If you’re sucking dick for yu-gi-ho cards, you’re gay.

these people usually end up working for or getting money from companies that sell boosters, so its just advertisement, but that won't stop it from being funny for me.

i looked up the first card he pulled in that first video and it goes for about $100 right now, the rest range from like $8-40. he said he spent $700 on the box to pull the $100 card.

i understand why people do this with old magic cards but i don't get the appeal when multiple pokemon cards printed this year go for the same kind of money. for example tapu lele gx RR goes for $85 and card shops will give you $45 for one no questions asked.

then again, somebody did legitimately spend $100,000 on a pikachu illustrator card; however its a promo not something you can get from a booster. hell as recently as last year someone paid $54k for one.
