I've had an account on Twitch for over a decade now and in that time I've periodically followed a group of streamers, watched them until they petered out and got tired of the platform, and then found another group to follow as the process repeats. However, as time as gone on there seem to be less and less people who stream on Twitch that I find tolerable. I cannot find another group of streamers to follow now, and I am hoping some of you all might know some streamers who are decent people that avoid idpol bullshit and LGBT faggotry.
Before I write more on this post I want to share links to two browser extensions that I are absolutely must-haves for Twitch:
- Alternate Player for Twitch.tv - An HTML5 player for Twitch streams that essentially intercepts loading a user's profile/stream and connects directly to the video feed. This is the only extension that I am aware of that has successfully bypassed and blocked every single Twitch ad with a 100% hit rate. Makes the website a lot more useful especially for streamers who have their channels set to automatically run ads every 30/60/etc minutes. (UPDATE: In the time since I posted this thread Twitch has rolled out support for 2K and 4K streams to Partners. These streams use a different server protocol (or something) resulting in an "encrypted stream" that this plugin is incompatible with.)
- Unwanted Twitch - A very simple but comprehensive blacklisting extension that will let you enter a list of user tags (the little bubbles shown under a stream) and simply remove the entire channel from every page on Twitch where it would appear. Very handy for filtering out all foreign language streamers (who tag their streams appropriately at least) as well as all of the genderspecials who put their pronouns or transgender status as a tag. You can also block "VTuber"/"Furry" and its permutations if you don't want to see that stuff, as well as streamers whose entire personality revolves around their mental health and use tags like "Disability" and "ADHD".
I am asking for suggestions here, but I figure this thread might also act as a jumping off point for other Kiwis as well who are looking for reasonable people to follow. Here are a few suggestions to help whittle down the field and sort out the chaff. Don't recommend:
- Anyone who has any sort of stupid pronoun/trans shit as a "tag" on their channel.
- Anyone who formerly ran with the original Let's Play community on Something Awful who now simp for leftist crap (Smight, TieTuesday, etc).
- Anyone whose channel tags consist of mental health awareness nonsense.
- Furries/etc whose channels are built solely around weird sex stuff
- Streamers whose entire presence on the platform is just garbage reaction content or political sperging, etc.
I'm not looking for suggestions for "based" hardcore Trumpers or whatever the fuck, I just don't have any interest in watching uninteresting NPC faggots who are fine with being complacent toward mental illness and sexual perverts, for lack of a better term. Speedrunners are fine, variety streamers are fine. I really have no objection to what the streamer does, just that they are fun to watch and interact with.
Here are what few suggestions I have, not all of them currently stream anymore though:
- Sarconius - Guy who does 100% completions of games on RetroAchievements and is really fixated on getting every single unlockable, even when the games (community picked) are absolute shit. He can be a little abrasive and rude but I assume it's because he is some flavor of autistic or something. (Update: He is now the #1 ranked player on RetroAchievements.)
- thegrayfruit - Seemingly chill guy who streams a variety of games. Found him through YouTube where he has several supercuts of him making unreasonably difficult shots in Peggle and getting very excited about them. Sounds a lot like Vinny from Vinesauce, which is odd. Doesn't stream as much as he used to. Is apparently dating a tranny.
- LateNightRetro - Another variety streamer who mostly focuses on NES-era games. Kind of standoffish at times but has a decent community. I've discovered a lot of cool bands from the music he plays on stream. Relatively amusing and funny at times. Also doesn't stream as much these days.
- Chaide - Streams a lot of Castlevania speedruns and completion attempts. Has a lot of amusing sound alerts and a fun community. He's put a lot of very obvious work into his stream setup with nice layouts, multiple cameras, and expensive stuff like RetroTinks and MISTers.
- Gatorbox - Streaming since 2012, one of the first channels I followed and the longest of anyone I still watch. His channel is very much way past its prime but he is genuinely funny with his improvisational comedy and I've had a lot of gut laughs watching. Ex-furry of some persuasion with little patience for political/gender/etc nonsense.
- RealLiveDinosaur - Canadian guy who is very chill and usually puffs a joint on stream every once in a while. Plays a lot of game show console ports which are fun to play along with in chat. Doesn't appear to be actively streaming anymore.
