ive tried looking around online and the closest thing i can find is that i need to flash the latest image onto a usb, can anyone verify that this is correct? i dont want to lose my personal files

ok if im just going to have to bite the bullet and wipe my personal files i will do thatwipe your drive and put a windows installation iso on your usb drive
do you have any reccommended recovery toolsseems like your bootloader crashed, or ubuntu fucked itself up. if you can save your files heccing do it with a recovery tool otherwise just make a fresh install.
according to their website linux systems can be searched and sanitized but not repaire, im going to try ittheres avira rescue system.iso but i dont know if thats publically available.
