I find the Chan boards to be unique in that they allow anyone to create boards on any topic they wish with minimal censorship from the administrators.

This freedom of expression combined with a rare lack of rules has created a community where subversives, and basement dwelling teens may hide away from the realities of our capitalist world, while building relationships with relatable others whom find themselves in similar situations and with similar viewpoints.

It is difficult to imagine why this format of board is not found commonly within the main-stream internet. While we do find message boards around the web, we do not find many locations which allow users to create a board about any topic they wish. Could this be due to the fact that the boards are largely unpopular in main stream culture, or could it be rather a lack of opportunity for profit? After all, main stream websites are almost always businesses while Chan websites tend to be ran by subversive individuals.

Might we know the Kiwi communities thoughts on these matters? Why are the Chans so popular? What will replace them in the future? What will come of the users? How have the boards's opinions changed over the years?

I find message board cultures to be totally fascinating, I genuinely hope that I may study and understand them better in the future!

One day Humanitie's entire politics will be communicated through message boards similar to these. Even our democratic systems such as voting. Message board software holds the key to the future of human social development, communication, even in the way we organize our thoughts and prioritize as a society what is worth discussing, and where our values lie.

The internet, and message boards such as these are part of the greater mind of the whole organism of Humanity, we can study the social dynamics within these boards and how our actions change based on the board environment as a whole. It is the study of Human nature within an online environment.

With the right studies, we can develop boards which push us to want to act in ways which match our ideals of a democratic, free-thinking, and egalitarian society.
