When I was browsing the Chris Chandler: Unsolved Mysteries thread, I was surprised to see that so many people liked my post where I posted the Unsolved Mysteries theme song. I was even more surprised to see other Unsolved Mysteries references throughout the thread. I've just never seen much of an online presence for UM, especially since the company that owns its copyright went on a crusade to eradicate any videos relating to it several years ago.

Anyway, I've been a huge fan of Unsolved Mysteries ever since I was a kid; it’s what jumpstarted my love of true crime and mysteries in general. Not only that, I watched it with my late grandma, so rewatches of the series are very nostalgic for me as well. Unfortunately, the series is damn near impossible to find nowadays. It stopped airing years ago and the DVD sets (which contain some but by no means all of the episodes) have been out of print for years so they're extremely expensive.

YouTube used to be a haven for Unsolved Mysteries, with almost every segment being accounted for (I actually used to upload old UM segments I found across the internet several years ago before my account was forcibly deleted). But the copyright holders went crazy and forced YouTube to delete fucking everything. And not just the segments that were on the DVDs. The majority of the UM clips were ripped from VHS tapes and dated back to the late 80s/early 90s and weren’t legally available anywhere. I still can't wrap my mind around why a company would be so obsessive about deleting content that they haven't made legally available (either via streaming services or DVD rereleases).

Thankfully, I still have quite a few (as in a couple hundred) segments that I saved before UM's online presence was nuked; I would love to share them, but as I said, the copyright-holders are so obsessive about policing their copyright that it's fucking impossible to host them anywhere. Also, like 7 or 8 years ago, I was fortunate enough to receive the Ultimate Collection as a Christmas gift from my parents. And I am beyond thankful that I got it, because the Ultimate Collection is now out of print, extremely hard to find, and goes for close to a grand if you can find it. So sorry, fellow UM fans, I can’t help you *sigh*

But! It may not be too late. I found two petitions asking Netflix and/or Hulu to purchase the streaming rights to Unsolved Mysteries. This isn’t just a pipe dream; the official FAQ for Unsolved Mysteries states that the copyright holders would be open to allowing Unsolved Mysteries to stream on Netflix or Hulu.

SO ANYWAY, this is a thread where we can discuss how amazing this show is and how badly we all want to watch it again.

EDIT: Amazon will be streaming the old Robert Stack episodes starting in 2017!

This one with the two kids burning down that abandoned house and recording it always scared the shit out of me, even though they were just juvenile punks. Like , you got the impression that Omar wasn't really a person so much as he was some malevolent force of nature listening to it.

I LOVE Unsolved Mysteries so much.

I have all those DVDs as well, but its still so limited! No Lost Love stories, no Chupacabras. No Blair Adams (real good story that one!)

I cant bother with the reimagined version because its still 80s/90s footage but poorly juxtaposed with modernist background music.

Yeah, I always used to be scared of going to the bathroom while watching my Unsolved Mysteries DVDs at night. My second floor in my house is basically like a tower, so it always creeped me up thinking a ghost is going to appear.

The "L'Enfant" thing was my favorite, but sadly it isn't on Youtube anymore.

There was a similar show in the early 90s called "Rescue 911" which seemed to copy the style of Unsolved Mysteries, right down to having a veteran actor (this time being William Shatner) as the host.

Badass theme, but this show is the reason I became afraid of cooking food, what with seeing this image of a mom accidently pouring burning oil onto her 4 year old daughter, seeing a girl get stuck under a car and a guy getting his tongue stuck in a freezer.

Both excellent shows of my adolescent years. They were a presence in our house week after week.

I do know a private bit torrent tracker that has a good chunk of UM at its disposal.

There was a kid in my high school who was on the show once (he was student council president, in fact). I was tempted the day after I saw the episode to go up to him and say, "hey, I saw on you on Unsolved Mysteries", but I didn't quite have the nerve". It probably would've been rude, anyways.
I'm sure after the broadcast, he wasn't in the mood to hear it.

HOLY SHIT GUYS

AMAZON IS GOING TO START STREAMING THE OLD ROBERT STACK EPISODES IN 2017

http://www.thewrap.com/unsolved-mys...-prime-updated-episodes-amazon-2017-new-year/

And they're not just streaming the old episodes. Any segments whose cases have been solved in the time that the show's been off-air will feature "update" segments which will tell us the outcome. This is so amazing! We can finally watch Unsolved Mysteries again!

They have to show the Blair Adams case.

Please dammit, unearth the Blair Adams case. No one on Youtube has it, it wasn't on any DVD releases and it probably wasn't on any reruns since 2002.

This segment creeps me out now because the original husband's sister Beverly and the grandmother Ida who originally claimed they dropped them all off and had nothing to do with the disappearance were found out to have killed them and buried them in an unmarked grave, so the grandmother is just lying in her interview and knows what happened.

Btw this channel still has uploads of a lot of UM segments.

I just watched that story, god what a screwed up family. Glad to see Bev is serving time now, but a shame it took so long to find the bodies.

After that segment? Guess what! Blair Adams! I knew the instant it said Knoxville, Tennessee. However, shit audio!
