They actually made Anoki pretty cute in some of those concept images. Not cute for a 20-something dateable in VN, but a nice-looking design. Shame they ruined it by uglifying them into the absolute mess their official sprite is. Those alt hairs also look way better, and make the design a lot more memorable than "frumpy with big hair."

I have no idea why they didn't go with "alternate outfit 1" as her actual design. It's way prettier than her actual one, and the traditional jewelry is pretty cute. The hair frames her face in a way that makes her look less weirdly masculine. Her shirt doesn't look like a bootleg arcade carpet either.

It's far from perfect (wtf is up with the man hands and feet) but it's a huge improvement.

The design, while not a masterwork, is clearly rooted in the story they're trying to tell about Anoki. In the final design she's just a generic brown if you don't notice the tacky feather earring. In a game that's entirely selling itself on representation, why did they go with the design that is less representative of the character's culture?

I genuinely couldn’t tell/remember, not because “lul shes ugly” but it felt like they were going back and forth on it. What weirdass hormones are they taking that they keep their figure and face shape but get a gigachad chin and sideways thigh hair?

For people so caught up in everything gender they have no idea how to visually represent it. You've got manhair thighs and a gigajaw. But Anoki is AFAB? Probably one of those "You can't assume someone's gender because of their appearance!" things. Some of these tumblr clowns are convinced that the average non-binary trans-thing bears no difference from the biological version of whatever they are trying to be. These are the types of people who put on pants and a binder or an ugly wig and actually think they pass based on their own feels alone.

Anoki is just such a clusterfuck of bad design and she even gets a horrible personality to go with it. She's an unintentional parody of tumblr.

Looking at some ingame pics makes it even worse (they forgot to make her fat here lul)

Interesting how someone who claims to be part native (I always went with great great great great grandma was a Cherokee princess) picks the most stereotypical Native accessory to keep and jettisons the rest in favor of a hideous hot mess of an outfit.

Don't get me wrong, Anoki is an eternal dumpster fire regardless. But I feel like the artist could not silence their inner tumblr and went with the most generic loud and ugly they could. It couldn't be any worse if they had the hairy thighs on display.

Historonic personality disorder and antisocial? What a winner. Totally the type of person who would try and comfort a scared dog all night.

I am almost surprised at the race changing, but just almost. This seems like the kind of sjw who would write a game that shits on white people so much (and the kind of friends Dani attracts).

Easy, this character is only about culture when browness needs to be a factor. This character is about being a self insert: the creator chimped out when people critiqued Anoki in let's plays since Anoki has a large part of herself in her. Its why she dresses like a college age artist: because the creator is as well.

This game probably has more self inserts into it. We know about Yolanda (who never had explict confirmation but seeing Dani's blatant favoritism and similar apperance you can assume as such, along with her raging self centeredness) and Anoki (confirmed based off her creator). I'm wondering who is the next person to get butthurt by criticism.

That might be a monkey paw wish there, fren. If /v/ made an objectively superior pre-release parody of ValiDate they way the did with Goodbye Volcano High, the devs might be so assmad that they actually finish this trashfire out of spite.

I for one want this game to continue to hemorrhage crowdfunding money Star Citizen style simply because it's funny.

I really don't think they would finish the game to spite, like when GVH parody came out. All the devs did was seeth was rage and use the "imagine being" meme on ResetEra, they seriously didn't make any announcements about the project progressing or something. So, I imagine the same being with ValiDate, the devs with seeth with enough rage to be used as a grill, but they sure as fuck aren't gonna finish their game.

I think it would be impossible to make a "better validate" because the premise is flawed from the start. Once you take away the ambiguous brown fat people the game has literally nothing else going for it. There's no plot, no real goals, nothing. From what we've seen you're more likely to be told "assuming gender bad" in a route than actually date one of these characters.

This game would just have slightly more going for it if it was more focused on characters from different cultures with their own unique traditions and such but Validate isn't going for that. It just slaps labels on their characters and then called it a day. There is literally no appeal lmao
