After some digging (by which I mean I forgot who it was that actually draws Ashlie) I'm here to announce that I was likely correct in my assumptions (not that I had any doubt in my spidey-sense). Didn't do much looking after I found their fanart because the very first piece I saw was, naturally, gay Hannibal fanart and I figure that's probably enough to back up my claim.
Looking through their twitter, I find I actually kinda like their art (when they put effort in it), but they just... can't women well and/or really dropped the ball on Ashlie. Not really a passion project, I guess.

Creating a game takes some amount of effort. They actually have to attempt to write dialogue (going by the demo- that's a lost cause), and set up a plot (pfft, yeah right), and try to make something.
Boring, stolen memes with their characters is way easier. It's like the pictures of their own art for the "merchandise" they are somehow going to find the money to have made in a Chinese sweatshop. Doodling is easy. A coherent project is hard.
Just assume every meme posted knocks half a percent off the likelyhood of this actually being a completed game.

Looking closely, I can see its the same kind of scratchy lineart pen and Will here has a pretty similar facial shape to Ashlie, for whatever reason. They have a pretty professional-looking (aside from the childish doodling they use to draw themself) portfolio website linked in their bio, is apparently studying graphic design, and (of course) draws a shitton of fanart, most of which is actually pretty decent. Good, even, or at least in my opinion.

Also, I just realised something about Emhari. The upper half is done well by ValiDate standards. But at the belt it starts to fall apart and look low effort.
