Vibe Coding & AI/SI Agentic Programming General - How to become the a 10x engineer you always knew you were despite being absolutely inept in every imaginable manner

Vibe coding is really dumb. Spec code instead. Write your entire requirement doc in a n.md file, tell the prompt to read your AGENT.md or rules.md or whatever and then "implement spec/09-whatever-thing.md"

I wouldn't call this reproducible. But I think it's important to have the prompt checked in. You can also tell it to commit the summary with it, and maybe the token count/cost too if you use something like opencode that measures it.

For my own stuff, I write specs and have the AI demons write stuff all the time. For work ... we inherited a project from a guy who left who LOVED some Claude .. old claude .. shit claude. He checked in all his specs, but there is so much terribly written repeated buggy shit ... I always suspected engineers would have to be rehired en-mass to fix the slop ... but the newer models (opus-5+, gpt astra or hell even GLM-5 or Kimi) are .. pretty good at finding a lot of those slop code issues. I've been relying on them more than I'd like.

The thing is though .. you have to know how to code first. My cognitive coding skills are in decline. I can feel it. I have to force myself to write simple things like Ansible playbooks, just to make sure I'm not losing a lot of critical skills.

I do not know at all how you teach and bring up new developers in this environment. If you don't know how to structure what you want and just give a harness the most basic requirements ... it's just going to build node + react. We're on our way to monoculture. Who will use new frameworks?

The worst are these mid-levels I've had to interview lately who read straight of the fucking phone! I ask them weird esoteric shit like what garbage collectors are in .NET 10 vs .NET 6 and how you would implement cgroups on macos. They start answering! I asked this one pajeet cunt "What LLM are you using?" She said she wasn't using one and looked at her dead in the camera and said "Please do not lie to me. What. Tool. Are. You. Using." She still denied it. After the interview, the other manager said "You almost made her cry!" "What? No I didn't" "Yes you did. Did you not pay attention?"

My manager then said, "Please don't make the candidates cry."

We always do an in-person and we've had several that answered perfectly on the phone screening and knew zero when put in a room where they were forced to use our laptop. I guess it's impressive they can read and regurgitate LLM answers that fast, but they're still fucking lying pajeets.

I've asked around and this is happening everywhere. One of my old managers works for a fully remote shop and they rented out a room and a PO box to fly out candidates and staff to a make shift office for in-person interviews, which also feels dodgy for totally different reasons.

Do any Europeans or Americans do this? I haven't seen it yet. Most of the American candidates are just ... incompetent, but at least they don't try to cheat.

I don't know how we solve the education problem. I don't know how we solve the Pajeet interview problem. I don't know how you grow a new generation of domain experts when the predictive machine spits out code from a massive lossy-compressed store of human creations.

I do know none of this is sustainable, and I'm not sure what we'll see in 10 years.

I don't think DHH was wrong .. but I still didn't like what he was saying.

Ngl I almost want to try vibecoding in something like COBOL for the lulz. I'm too cheap to actually buy tokens or whatever, so this is yet something else for the Shit I'll Never Get Around To Doing pile.

they need to raise prices so people like you wont waste resources.

I can't take AI coding seriously when you gay ass niggas call it "vibecoding" as you swirl Claude cum in your mouth on a Herman Miller Aeron modded with an auto dildo thruster stamped with a #MOOD sticker as you indulge in the A24 atmosphere of your agentic Linux rice.

I don't take it too seriously even without all that bric-a-brac.

You don't need to take it seriously because the circlejerk that is IT companies already do it for you. You throw in some shit, copy-paste whatever it puts out, rename a few functions and post on linkedin about your most recent 'success'. Your boss likes it and writes "Great job, Josh!". You've now produced value out of nothing.

"Bro get into programming bro it's so great and rewarding. Well it pays well. Well it pays. If I could get a job.."

I've started my own "vibe code" today based off Nuclear source which has been really fun! Decided to call it "StankBank", it's going to be a locally hosted Spotify clone with additional features.

The main feature I'm looking for is a way to transfer my music library from YouTube music to other piracy focused player like Monochrome, ect.

The work around I've come up with is Last.FM integration (currently exists but expanded to sync to your library). I also setup and fixed the existing issue with Bandcamp's dashboard plugin being expired (the API format being sent is incorrectly written), MusicBrainz integration, artwork sources with fallback and optimisations (previously loaded the whole image and compressed leading to slow load times).

I also added a volume leveller, open in YouTube button, offline song caching, plus about 20 other features.

My favourite fix though is the audio stream fallback. Similar to the artwork, currently if a stream link or artwork is invalid, the song will infinitely load but or go blank. I've added several fallbacks for all and then if that fails, it'll fallback to your other downloaded options from the pluginstore.

Super happy to have a fun little project to work on. It's been a really fun exercise to try do something with the use of AI but not having AI do it/not learn anything in the process. I've enjoyed this.

I've just put my program into Hermes and given it the prompt to "Please clean up, review and test all code to see if there are any bugs, issues or weird encounters. Do not change, flag in a word document in my root/working directory once completed. You are compiling my application into a launchable program now it's completed and ready for testing. I also want you to review the master project before starting and see if there are any alterations you could do to speed up the optimisation of this program and reduce it's file size. Notify me for review but do not make any changes. Leave a log in the same folder".

I'll be very curious to see what happens, as I've never used Hermes (or the subagent feature)

It ended up cooking my app and wasn't helpful at all so won't be using AI further for this.

I was working on a separate media system for YouTube/free movies this morning with a built in adblocker/vpn and the "touch up" basically broke the section.

This very well could be because I'm not running on a huge rig of a system and so I'm using a smaller, local model (my thought).

I'm sure something like the new Claude would smoke a task like this.

Edit, some screenshots of features added that I confirmed are working this morning. Keen to keep playing with this today.

I have a bunch of dumb .bat scripts I use in a folder with a loose ffmpeg exe, and I've always wished it was less crude than how I set it up (it hardcodes an input and output filename so I have to change filenames every time I do anything with it), so I downloaded Cursor as suggested in the OP, and asked it simply that I wanted to make a GUI interface for batch scripts (without being specific)
It searched my computer, found the .bat scripts I was referring to, immediately understood what I was trying to do in the context of ffmpeg, improved what already existed by making it accept an input of any video file with an explorer file selector, and built the entire thing without any further input
It literally figured out exactly what I wanted to do and how I wanted to improve it without any input other than "I want to create a GUI for existing batch scripts"
What the fuck man

Unfortunately it had a bug with one option and asking it to fix it hit the usage limit, but it's insane to me that it went and found what I was talking about and what I wanted to do with it with only vague suggestion

Spent today working on the app, really happy with it.

I did a complete UI redesign and am making it 90's/OSRS influnced.

Early mockup that I threw back into the AI based on some of my blender art my mate and I have been working on to setup the GUI.

Trying to make a 90's influenced, interactive, audiophile platform that doesn't require sign in and is free for streaming while being USB accessible that has storage accessible and scrabbler data.

I finalised the gapless audio feature of caching, the library adding while fixing lots of general GUI issues. I've made a whole discovery feature. Currently I can only play playlists/artists/songs in order... I made a discovery section to counteract this. I would love to blend both a natural API pull of songs and discovery based on your actions but unsure how, any ideas?

I've been trying to vibecode with claude.

So far, mixed feelings. It kinda gets to the end result but it eats a lot of tokens.

I've tried making a few prototypes and that's all they are, prototypes. Nowhere near a finished game. Here are my main grievances:
* Ai art style is inconsistent and ugly
* Sometimes completely misunderstands what I want
* Can only do what it's been done before

So great for prototypes/MVPs, but needs human input to make finished projects.

I wanna buy claude but I'm worried it's just gonna get more expensive and more limited. Also it's very lobotomized...

The best/worst part about vibecoding is making a prototype and realizing your idea actually kinda sucked
That is actually the best part, I wanted to make a program that would pull prices from all the local grocery stores then when I fed through a shopping order for the month it would price it all out and make shopping list per store based off of cheapest price. I made it like 80% of the way through the project and it was going amazing only for me to hit a massive roadblock of a draconian rate limit when pulling prices on one of the stores. At the bare minimum it just made it so I know with full certainty that one of the grocery stores is positively fleecing the customers with a near 25% markup relative to the other stores. If I had to code that shit by hand for days only to find the rate limiting I would have been pissed, instead I just shrugged my shoulders and moved on to a new project.

Could this be used by a totally tech illiterate retard to fox ramleaks or make 32 bit abandonware exes to 64 bit in old games only 5 retards in the world care about?

Probably. Someone used GPT-6 to manipulate emulator bytecode to adjust the game as he was playing it:

DOS games shouldn't be too much beyond that .. old win32 games might be a bit trickier. Typically people tend to just build new game engines and reuse the old game file assets (Open Transport Tycoon, ScummVM and the many SimCity engines come to mind). It might be easier to get the coggers to produce a modern game engine for old game assets.

I'm loading 5 songs into the cache library, once the song is played a new one is queued based on Last.FM discovery bot. Useful clanker. I hope to make it burn so its light on storage.

"ChatGPT what's that recipe?"

Killing so many, host it locally.

Try a cheap china model like Space bunny alpha. Think its based off QWEN. They're quite good for an openrouter callback.

Feel like this is valid.

Feel like this is valid.
I afterwards tried OpenCode with Nemotron 3 Ultra Free and it worked well to get my GUI to work exactly how I wanted it in about 20 minutes, so I've completed my personal vibecode slopproject, and I'm content with it as it is for now

I did also install Unsloth with Qwen 3.8, so that's what I'm gonna try out next time I want to vibecode something, since it's nice to have the reliability of it being run locally and not being rate-limited
