Those facts sure are fun, all right.Small time vtuber Neko Neneka is currently begging for donations on reddit. Source (archive)
The story is, she quit her job about a month ago due to stress from overworking and was subsequently disowned by her parents. She is currently earning 38.,500 Yen with living expenses at 150,000. She's also specifically asking for monthly donations of 500 and up. Seems like she's trying to go full time, not just asking for extra cash because she's in a jam. Thing is, she currently has 1.9k subscribers. Trying to quadruple her earnings while dealing with all that stress seems irrational at best. I might be overthinking this but she seems like a potential trainwreck.
Apparently she explains some of the situation in this video but it's untranslated so I have no idea.
Other fun facts:
She suffers from insomnia, anxiety and depression
Shut in, possible hikki
Did a 65hr stream to celebrate 600 subs
Her avatar has no animation, just a few static expressions
It begs the question, though, if someone doesn't have an animated model, are they a "vtuber?" I guess I could see the argument if they're still roleplaying as a character and all that, but as someone who got into all this stuff from the tech angle, my instincts say no, she's just someone talking over a drawing.
Also, as someone who has been in the position of having to choose between a job that I hate but makes money and a job that I'd love to do but would bankrupt me and chose the former, I don't feel very sympathetic. Quitting her job before she could make a livable wage from the streaming thing was not a wise choice. At the least I hope she's searching for another IRL job rather than putting all her eggs in the streaming basket. If she really only needs, let's see, $1451 a month to live, she could probably make that being a fast food wagey or something equally unglamorous and still have a day or two off a week for all-day streams. If the rumors about Mori having a day job as an English teacher are true, then she's making it work.
