I think it’s an issue with some websites blacklisting some IPs that Proton assigns due to the actions of users that got assigned that IP before you. That’s been a standard issue I’ve encountered with various VPNs. Many games that use IP bans can result in you running in to this problem and you’ll have to contact them and explain you were using a VPN so they can check your account info and see that you weren’t associated with the account that got that IP banned. TOR browser especially triggers IP bans on basically every site that uses them, thought it’s extremely rare for paid VPNs because the people autistic enough to get IP banned from places don’t tend to have the money to pay for one or at least are looking for a cheap fix to be a sperg online, so will use proxies, TOR, or a free service, though it does happen sometimes.

There are certain DDOS protection and 'security' providers- I'm thinking especially WordFence, a WordPress plugin- that really go hard on blocking VPN IPs.

If I run up on a site like that I just use archive.today to save the page I want to look at, read it there, and move on.
 
Has any other VPN that's subpoenaed recently proven in court that they don't keep logs?

Here's an article- that like all articles on VPNs, is created to make money from referrals- that discusses a number of cases where services may have been verified to not keep logs.
Obviously, verify any claims, your mileage may vary, if you always connect to the same server to send fun emails to your school district then LEOs may request to monitor that specific server to look at who connects to it, etc etc.

Unless you're doing something illegal, I recommend you find at least a decent one that is generally trusted (at the moment) and then you can resume shopping for one that suits your specific wants while being at least protected more from ISPs and many tracking orgs. If you don't want the VPN to even know who you are, then you can get a basic bitch VPN to start and then use it to set everything else up.
The privacy rabbit hole is ridiculously deep due to all the online tracking there is nowadays, so if you're trying to avoid that then you need a VPN + some habit changes.

I use AirVPN but I don't do anything crazy with it. I occasionally have ridiculously high bandwidth usage and they've never throttled me and it's worked great on Windows and Linux.

I'm using ProtonVPN right now and I can get on KF.

Anyone know of a reliable, trusted VPN that doesn't charge out the ass for their monthly price AND isn't in the fourteen eyes? The typical places like Nord and Express make you pay way in advance for the "good price" and I don't want to do that.

This is a major issue for me too because shit changes so quickly in the VPN world that your great VPN from a couple months ago might get compromised or sell out to some Mossad agent the day after you just paid for your entire year in cryptocurrency. PIA did this but luckily for me it was right at the end of a year subscription.

I just switched to Mullvad and it seems to hit all those points. My connection is much improved from PIA and it's also been getting good reviews in the software endorsements thread if you want to check that out.

What are the speeds you have been getting? My PIA sub is (finally) running out in a few months and 100Mb/s isn't cutting it for me anymore since I now have gigabit.

? PIA isn't limited to 100Mb/s. I just did a speed test and got 394Mb/s. My internet is 400 so I'm maxing out my speeds with PIA.

According to that Safety Detectives site that Aidan linked to, Mullvad is the best VPN in overall terms (privacy, security, internet speed, price, etc.) The only real potential issue, though its only a potential issue, is that its located in Sweden, which is a Fourteen Eyes country.

I think the 14 eyes thing is overblown. A proper VPN wouldn't even be susceptible to 5 eyes because a proper VPN wouldn't have anything to hand over. If someone like the NSA or Mossad wants your data, they will not waste time on your VPN, they will just hop on your devices and cut out any middleman and I wager no one here is worth the attention. If you are, you have much bigger problems.

Mullvad is still in the 9 Eyes. They're in Sweden.

I chose IVPN in the end because they're based in Gibraltar.
 
has anyone tested google's vpn? comes with google one. makes a lot of promises, says they don't log (except for service maintence/security - ha).

Yeah I haven't used it in a while, Im not getting just under 200Mb/s for the server that is closest to me, but another one I tested that doesn't really give me an idea how far it is (as it could be really close or really far because no city is listed for it) 475Mb/s

I wouldn't touch a google VPN with a 100 ft pole unless I was doing only things like banking or checking my gmail, and even then, I wouldn't fully trust it.
