Good for Schlep on covering this, luckily or maybe it's just what I've seen, vr chat is not seen as kid friendly in my social circles. While every parent I know has a kid that plays roblox I know some that got a quest headset and were prohibited from using vr chat immediately, in general any kid who has an "online friend" or uses means to chat with one like this is frowned upon. Maybe that's why not bringing attention to it also works but there are kids whose parents don't care, their public lobbies are full of squeakers which is crazy since you get so many 18+ worlds advertised as soon as you join, I bet it's the same with Meta.

on that note, I really enjoy VRChat trolling more than SL trolling now, SL players are usually either (suprisingly wealthy) older people playing out a fetish or black people pretending they aren't stuck in section 8 housing, but VRChat is full of people who are non-functional, developmentally challenged, probably can't leave their home without a caretaker, mentally trapped in elementary school, watching vids like ProximityChat's feels similar to watching old late night documentaries.
 
You see videos of the occasional normal person talking about their life experiences on VRChat, and it makes the place look like it's wholesome, until you realize 90% of it is people projecting their inward perversions onto everyone and worst of all children with neglectful parents.
I'm glad youtubers are exposing it, but I do fear the Streisand effect

I don't understand, unless their business is SO dependant on money from pedophiles that it will collapse otherwise, all I can think of is they are trying to save face by basically imply the problem doesn't exist when it clearly does. Active pedophiles need lengthy jailtime, sterilisation or death. Imagine as an organisation facilitating this. Imagine as an adult choosing to destroy an innocent life for a brief moment of sexual pleasure. So vile.

Most of their money comes from perverts buying the shiny VRC+ subscription so they can get adult verified through their government ID and go have weird sex in the verified only private servers.
 
I was hoping that the 18+ verification VRChat added would stop these things from happening. They literally have a financial incentive to cull public 18+ content since it'll sell more VRC+. They could even add a filter to worlds to make it only possible to find them/create instances if you're 18+ verified. That way worlds that advertise these apps would only reach their supposed "target demographic" of adults.

The only possible conclusion as to why VRChat admins wouldn't would be if they were just okay with minors being exposed to dicks and titties online.

I don't get why they're attempting to expand their audience this way, the VR in the name is already kind of irrelevant because any desktop PC can play it already, no headset required, adding mobile is a massive mistake even ignoring exactly what crowd it'll bring in, cause you're just muddying the point of the software even further. What's someone dragging a joystick around on their iphone going to be able to do in what's supposed to be an immersive chat game? Are they going to get hooked and spend a bunch of money on customization like they hope, or are they going to just be pushed away cause they see no point? Just imagining the variety of mic qualities alone makes the reality of this even stupider. Why would any kid even get involved in this crap over Roblox? There's a lot less to do even if that's been bandaided over with minigames. It's an 'evolution' of second life first, actual vidya game second. Without the gimmick of extra immersion it's essentially still just sl.

That said, I won't doubt it'll gain them users simply on the virtue of being free. They've been at it for at least two years now, news to me.
The experience looks as shit as I'd assumed, I doubt it's improved much seeing as you cannot fix how bad touchscreen controls are for something not built around them.

The only saving grace will be those usual client-crashers to finish the job.

I guess my question would be how well does VRchat run on the standalone headsets like the quest which essentially are glorified smartphone hardware. They're even priced like budget smartphones, I know meta takes a loss but I doubt they're directly competitive with a flagship Samsung computing wise. The mobile port seems a pretty easy task considering they're already built that version. Don't even have to render to 2 displays at once, so even shittier phones can support it.
