This really always confused me, like saying how Tau are communists, yet the whole caste stuff flies in its face. Even their vague "Greater good" cannot be contribute to communist ideals.
Tau is a mixture of ancient and modern Chinese inspiration; Zhou dynasty's caste system and modern China's communism. That fundamental contradiction is one of the few reasons Tau fits into the world of 40k.

Lets not pretend if China didn't have the ability to run a 3000-6000 year long mind control enforced Eugenics program that we wouldn't be seeing some really freaky Chinese subcastes of people. Factory workers with 9 inch long fingers, Miners who can't see in daylight and are 3 feet tall, et cetera. The Tau always struck me as what you'd get if you gave commies the ability for the party leaders to literally be impossible to disobey.

sucks that the death guard character is locked to the class using wargear that plague marines can't have.

What are this thread's posters' favorite and least favorite factions?
The reasoning behind liking the imperial guard more than the superpowered factions because the imperial guard is just made-up of regular normal humans with no special powers no advance power armor.

The idea of the imperial garden representing the unbreakable will of the human ability to survive despite the odds to me always just seem much more fun than superpowered space Wizards.
The idea of farm boy taking down a demon with nothing but alas gun and a bayonet
my second favor would be would be the

Adeptus Arbites

really in all actuality they should be the main ones dealing with Jean steel or Colts because they have all the equipment for putting down rioters dealing with people in close confined spaces they also have shotgun shells that can track people which is a cool idea,

Just a few more days until we bad
I'm probably gonna wait till it goes on sale because I am a dirty shekel gravel when it comes to money
probably gonna pirate it though just to see if I actually like it and I actually wanna play multiplayer

Favs being Orks, cause cmon! You have guys who can assemble the most wildest shit and make it work, combined they're the only faction who seems to have fun in the 40k world
Least fav one, Im prob gonna go with Tyranids, they kinda always strike me as a very boring faction.

Chaos Space Marines, love the downfalls of each legion and the later chapters who joined them. The “it’s better to reign in hell than to serve in heaven” trope is always fun and model-wise there’s so many options, so an enterprising hobbyist can make it so no two marines look the same in their force. For my army, I’ve created models of what an HQ looked like in the HH and what he looks like in 40k to have some succession in-between game systems.

My least favourite legion are the Alphas, dumb lore, annoying fans, dumbest memes.

Best are the four cult legions, hardest and most brutal falls, unique ranges and lots of fun due to how badly the got their shit fucked up. Though they shouldn’t be separate factions/different rule books.

They’re the bad guys and they love it, unless you’re ADB and you’re writing Abaddon as an “anti-hero” which is ridiculous.

Least favorite has got to be the Votaan, ugly models, dumb lore and they ensure the old-school squats are forever confined to Necromunda one-offs. Fuck em, dwarfs have always been a dumb fantasy trope and GW made them more lame with dykes.

Is there a reason the AdMech don't have their own not-Space Marines? Just absolutely roided the fuck out Skitarii cyborg elites? I get their vibe is more cybernetics than biological enhancements, but you'd think they'd go for random elite super Skitarii or something.

I guess maybe you could call Ruststalkers that but not really.

It would help with the army's problem, being an expensive as fuck horde army priced not as a horde army.
We talking lore or crunch?
Lore wise, they had beep-boops which filled the role, namely things like Thallax. By the time those became rarer, the HH had already happened and the imperium had begun its decline to its modern (or I guess sort of pre-modern now) state, with bans on innovation.
Crunch wise, I think it’s because they were originally, back in 7th, supposed to get the FW stuff in fires of cyraxus. But that never panned out, and the army went down a different path.

I probably find the Imperial Guard the most interesting due to the fact that they are ordinary men thrown in to absolutely bat shit scenarios and they are the natural choice for the POV faction.

Probably why I like the guard. It’s relatable. It’s the Ryan Gosling of factions where you can see yourself in it.

Used to like Custodes because of the lore of them being the ultimate warrior monks and companions of BigE, but the whole femstodes left a bitter taste to them (I still deny them existing).

But I have to go with the obvious as Night Lords. You can play them as full daemon worshipping terrors of the night or simple justice seekers wanting to tear down the Imperium for what it’s become. Their aesthetic is top notch. Their HH arc was fantastic and intriguing and their trilogy books was also amazing. Nemesis Claw is a cool kill team too.

That’s really the appeal of the Traitors in general, you can writefag them in a variety of ways, even the cult legions. There’s a lot of freedom with them.

The only thing working against you is GW’s ineptitude, like the World Eaters not getting Havocs and Raptors despite it being known that in addition to chain axe rape, them boys love heavy weapons and jump packs.

It's partially GWs fault, but also new players who don't bother to read up on the old fluff. You could always not paint your space marines in blue and call it a day, that's the hobby part of this whole thing.

There has been no greater scourge on gaming than the ill defined concept of 'balance'
GW are dumb neighbours for pandering to the competitive scene and balancing armies for tournament play. It should have always been about narrative play and army flavour. Instead, we have MOBA style FOTM patches with insane power creep where every weapon/unit/army feels bland and samey. Somehow, fucking AoS is a better game at this point.

But you don't understand, the jet pack is already under heavy strain by lifting an giant retard clad in 20 tons of science fiction. Him holding an giant chainaxe would render him to heavy to actually ascend with the grace of angels. Now shut up and take the Thunder Hammer

It was ridiculous with DG and TS but with the WE it’s comical, no Termies, no Havocs and no jump packs. At least with the TS and DG there’s a reason they wouldn’t have Raptors.

There are three legions known for their Raptor cults, AncientPhosphur’s pack of edgy boys, my crackhead legion and the World Eaters.

I dread the EC update.

Probably what they’re doing. Making the game shit so people switch to AOS, even the sculptures are better than 40K at this point.
