‘Warla’ trans kidnapping group arrested - The suspects, all transgendered persons, have resorted to kidnapping and gun-running to finance their sex change expenses

This in a developing story concerning a kidnapping group in the Philippines named the 'Warla' Kidnapping group. The gang, composed mostly of transgenders, pose as women in dating sites in order to lure their victims, mostly foreigners, before kidnapping them for ransom.

The group extorted money amounting to around P4.2M (~$72,000) from around 14 victims and were to be used for the suspects' sex change or sex reassignment surgery. The group may have been around since 2018 and only recently is being investigated and uncovered because most victims were ''ashamed to admit to being victimized by LGBT persons".

As of October 4, 2022, 9 suspects, all transgenders, have been arrested and in custody. A follow-up operation is underway to find its other members, including the ringleader.

“Warla” is gay lingo for “war” and “loka-loka”, or "to fight" (most likely from Spanish loco, as in "to go crazy").
