Welfare recipients being given internet access is a bad combination

Think about how many Lolcows featured on this forum also happen to be welfare recipients and/or they are “online streamers”. Either way, these people don’t really work for a living so they got nothing going on in their daily lives outside of the internet.

Back in ye old days, prior to the internet being widely available to the masses, people on welfare picked up productive hobbies if they weren’t drug addled bums. They’d take up things like sewing, fixing cars, painting- you name it, and then find ways to turn it into a profit that they don’t pay taxes on.

Or engage in some MLM scheme. You know the drill. These were people who had nothing better to do, and if they had any conflicts in their lives it would be confined to their neighborhoods/apartment complex.

Many of these people would also have two to three kids just to pass the time with, while getting extra gibs in their government provided housing. If they were a decent parent, then they’d have plenty of time to maintain a clean home and always have meals to provide for their children each day. At the very least, if they were self aware, they would be teaching their kids how to live on a limited budget.

Of course, that’s far and few inbetween when it comes to welfare cases. Not to power level, but in the mid 90s I lived in the projects and seen the duality in person.

Nowadays, people on welfare have unlimited access to the internet thanks to the proliferation of smart phones. They have access to social media where they can air out their grievances, with unlimited time in their lives.

They don’t have to pick up real hobbies to pass the time anymore when they can just scream at people on Twitter, Facebook and TikTok for hours on end. They have time to “befriend” people on the internet who are in similar predicaments as they are.

Because of that, whenever they have online slap fights it is not only on full display, but it starts to consume their entire existence. To the point where if they fell out with someone years ago, they’ll still be seething in the present while the other party has moved on with their lives.

It may sound like I’m being vague, because of how little that description narrows down which Lolcow I’m talking about.

Many Lolcows are terminally online welfare recipients, or they have streaming as their primary source of income. These aren’t people with a whole lot going on in their daily lives, so they only have people like us to gawk at them when they engage in any anti-social behavior.

This isn’t meant to be moralfagging on my end, because in many cases the Lolcows can actively try to improve their lives by stepping away from social media for a couple of years. However, if they do that— what else is there for them in their lives, if not the internet? Find low entry level jobs to fill in the void, despite their Google search results including all of the online slapfights they’ve been in? It would be better than spending all of your time online, at the very least.

With the way welfare works at the moment, there is very little incentive for spastic Lolcows to simply step way from the online sphere because they have nothing to lose by screeching at people. They have no reason to get a life.

It all comes at the cost of draining themselves of their own sanity for our amusement. The type of Lolcows to step away and distance themselves from eDrama don’t get featured on this site because they likely haven’t done anything in years. They are sane people living out their best lives (presumably).

Yeah, that's why it will be great, for us.
Giving entitled people the ability to express their self-pitying thoughts online gives us content. It's bad for people who want to be left alone, and it's worse for John and Jane Taxpayer to see what they're paying for. But for us, we just get more fat, entitled lolcows.

If anything, welfare recipients need to be given free internet access so we have more retards to observe and laugh at. Think of how many of them are out there, only being seen by their immediate family and carers, as they scream about Hitler shoving D-cell batteries up their ass or something equally goofy and hilarious. Now imagine that same person having unfettered, 24/7 access to upload their schizo rants straight onto youtube or tiktok.

Absolutely, the internet is one of the greatest indolence-producing tools available.

The problem is that you can't keep young people or welfare recipients/NEETs off the internet, because people have simply accepted the status quo where it's a necessary part of life.
It seems to be less the case nowadays, but it used to be that if you didn't have social media accounts that was considered a red flag for employers or even prospective partners, like if you aren't a faggot who exposes yourself to provably psychologically detrimental avenues, it must mean you're the one with something wrong.

And how are you supposed to keep your kids off the internet, when all the other kids have been attached to a phone from the time they were a toddler?

Society still doesn't seem to have quite worked out what its relationship with the internet should be, and I'm not sure if it ever will.

Imagine how many more Chris Chans are out there that we don’t know about due to being tard wrangled by loving family members.

I agree.

At best, I’d say this pleasant little forum we have here is the greatest cautionary tale as to why you shouldn’t let yourself become terminally online.

I feel if more people actually took the time to read many of the Lolcow threads with a degree of impartiality, they’d see it as a deterrent from becoming insufferable narcissists the minute they get any attention online.

While it gives us entertainment, there’s far too many people with nothing to lose who are comfortable making complete fools of themselves. They’re the people with the lowest impulse control who actively turn anthills into mountains anytime they get into online slap fights, without any self awareness.

At least a decade ago, most people like that had the sense to DFE and go silent for a couple years once it went out of their hands.

I feel torn. You're not wrong, at the same time, what IF they're looking for a job? You at least need a email for that anymore.

No all you need to do is bring a paper copy of your resume, speak with the owner and give him a firm handshake, these leeches just need to apply themselves more.

This is a legitimate reason for internet access to be a basic right, its assumed that you have some kind of access whether through phone or otherwise. If we expect welfare leeches to start becoming productive, theres other ways instead of limited access to the web.

The thing is anymore, even if they accept a paper copy, they still want your email on it. Internet access is too connected anymore to really be denied to adults, even if they live in section 8

Also jobs can be advertised through social media whether Facebook or Twitter or Instagram. Some sort of internet restriction on people on welfare would be beyond cumbersome to administer and would be shitty for those who've just lost their jobs and are looking for new ones.

I’m not calling for it to be restricted from welfare recipients, rather I’m just pointing out that being terminally online and a welfare recipient is unironically bad for one’s mental health. As shown in various threads on Lolcows.

It keeps us amused, so at least we’re getting our bang for our buck when it comes to providing for these people via tax dollars

As I said, I get that part. If they aren't trying to get out of being on welfare it keeps them there. I'm just saying if they are trying to get out, they shouldn't be stopped. The situation is kinda shitty is all.

Kind of a power leveling story but back in like I dunno 2013, 2014, 2015 or so I can't remember exactly, I used to fuck around on 8chan and there was some time when these faggots kept spamming /b/ to join their /nigganet/ board which was basically a twitter raid board made up of a handful of faggots who made a bunch of accounts pretending to be niggers spamming #whitegenocide or some shit like that for some reason I dunno. Anyway I thought it would be fun to fuck with them because it seemed funny.

Anyway, after a month or so of warring with their tripfagging board owner, becoming a black pirate on twitter and other fun shit, he'd just completely broken down. He ended up doxing himself, sending me a picture of his license and pretty much confirming he was some sped who lived off welfare on a houseboat in Washington.

He was like breaking down fucking in tears because that dumb twitter nigger trolling shit had become his entire life. He literally had nothing else. He just lived alone on a houseboat, on welfare pretending to be a white genocide spreading nigger on twitter. He took his tripcode name on 8chan seriously as fuck and ended up breaking down into tears when I'd fuck with him over it. He sent me autistic audio recordings of him crying and freaking out. I've still got a bunch of screenshots and and pictures of al that shit on my computer. I honestly felt pretty bad for him by the end.

8chan used to have a lot of people like that. People on welfare with way too much time on their hands doing nothing productive with it. There was some people on there who could have been doing productive things with their time but they didn't. I remember there was one thread, some guy recorded a shitty rap and a bunch of us were making beats and music for it. It was all kind of terrible but there were people on there who were good enough that if they had applied themselves and worked on their music instead of just shitposting they could have actually been pretty good.

By the same token, welfare recipients shouldn't have access to TV or smartphones, neither of which make a person smarter.

It's been said 'religion is the opiate of the masses'. I'd change that to 'mass media and the Internet are the opiate of the masses'. Suggest far more people use mass media/Internet than attend any church. But like any invention, it is what you make it.

To borrow a theme from a number of threads about grifters and e-beggers, there's no reason people on welfare should be discouraged from using the internet to blow off steam or as a distraction after a rough day. The issue is when people become so consumed by online activity they lack the ability, desire, or drive to do anything offline to take care of or better themselves.

As others have stated, internet use is virtually required for job-seeking and other activities welfare recipients interested in self-betterment would want or need to do. So, a blanket ban wouldn't be practical.

I remember the times when a good number of welfare recipients wanted to eventually become self sufficient and were willing to do anything reasonable to learn skills that would better themselves and their households. Now, more and more recipients seem to want, demand, and expect the government money in return for absolutely nothing on their end in terms of betterment or self-sufficiency. It's a recipe for economic collapse once there are more people receiving money than putting into the system.
