If I had a nickel for every Japanese import that has irreversibly changed American life I'd have three nickels—which isn't a lot but it's depressing that it's happened thrice

"Mel Torm," huh.

HE HAS A DIACRITIC IN HIS NAME; WHAT COULD IT MEAN

I liked the concept and the plot points but anybody else got the feeling halfway this was AI written? At least AI assisted or looks like it, because the repetition of "Not X, Not Y it was Z" every second sentence was getting on my nerves.
I would bet cash money on AI, specifically Chat-GPT, being used in part to write this story.

Interesting to see him become so irate to the point that he's holding himself back from yelling over the vile Jameson heir's involvement yet not a single word denouncing the cannibals themselves or the culture that would allow the slaughtering a child and butchering of her body to be common to the point the child was simply resigned to it.

I just don't see this as the condemnation of European colonization/culture he seems to think it is, especially considering the scandal it on the continent caused once exposed. It reminds me of DJPeachCobbler minimizing and running apologetics for the Mayans' human sacrifice rituals (including children) while using inferences beyond the primary sources to amplify every aspect of the Black Legend to condemn the Spanish as the real evil ones all in the same video without a hint of irony in the argument.

Makes the video come off as either a massive logical blind spot or performative.

I did some browsing and it turns out last episode was controversial because some people thought the story really sounded like AI was used, and then mods started deleting comments accusing the author of using AI because there wasn’t proof or whatever, and then he put this out.

Idk man, who knows he could just be an amateur using repetitive phrases without thinking too hard about it.

I finally finished listening to his Heart of Darkness and it's just depressing how far the brainwashing goes (likely from the American school system), he is either incapable or unwilling to actually engage with the time period and just immediately falls back on "racism and colonialism bad" for anything White people did (ignoring that non-Whites were also doing it and that Africa was a hellhole full of tribes horrifically killing each other rather than any sort of peace). It's especially bad trying to pull the moral relativity bullshit "Whites aren't superior" compared to fucking cannibals.

In the end it's just yet more hypocritical White Man's Burden mixed with Savage Worship that's been drilled to people since birth. The book Heart of Darkness is not about colonialism in general, since it starts with talking about the Romans conquering Britain, which by all means accounts for colonialism (which people will unironically argue doesn't count since it's only white on black, probably while arguing that native brits were black). It also doesn't humanize blacks in any way, never amounting to any more than animals that no man could understand and keep his sanity afterwards. You could have any other interpretation but those two are easily countered by the text itself.

Also getting MATI for youtubers keeping the "Even if the character was X-ist doesn't mean the author was". If you really need characters to fall into neat good/bad boxes don't fucking read anything for ages above 10.

I hate to "both sides" about it, but yeah. Culture of slavery intersecting with another that had slavery and cannibalism, add in a dilettante who tossed a fiver and said "haha no way, for real?"

And language barrier--again, rich guy not blameless, but he's talking to a trader who's not a native English speaker, who's talking to the tribespeople (still not in his native language). Being rich insulates you, but about the time they're knives out, butchering a 10-year-old, Jameson had to know he was the Golden Goose: able to summon more money from afar and to be ransomed, sure, but all it takes is a majority of these guys you can't communicate with to suddenly vote against delayed gratification, and he'd already seen what they can do.

People have gotten so fucking stupid with AI derangement that they will see repetition in a story and immediately think "THATS AI!" As if repetition isn't something that authors have utilized since Homer and Virgil, since man first put pen to paper/stylus to tablet.

And what if he actually did use AI? Frankly, I don't care! This story was of a higher quality than 80% of the shit they've covered on the podcast. AI creating better works of fiction than redditors is neither something that should surprise you nor anything to be upset about.

Wasn't Dogscape inspired by the meme of Neural Network interpretation making everything look like dogs?

Edit: Can't believe some autist wrote the entire setting to be caused by literally White Woman Fucks Dogs.

RIP Creep TV, I guess. When's the last time we got one of those? A year ago now?
Say, this Bull Kike fellow is proving to be a real credit to this thread. Hope he slaps a few more dozen crosses over this comment and all the ones to follow after today's update.

I forgot goon did a star wars iceberg, and that he's a "huge star wars nerd". The iceberg was meh and didn't really have any deep cuts, probably because Star Wars deep lore revolves around truly obscure shit from design works and behind the scene stuff with George and the crew.
Goon I can tell looks to RLM for his star wars opinions, though.

Somebody has to spread the word of the one true god in this most holy thread, and that somebody is me. ✝️✝️✝️

Wendigoon makes a voice cameo in this Pyrocynical Funger review. To his credit, he voices (seemingly) a completely normal dude in armour.
Wonder if he'll ever make a video on the game. The game itself sounds really bad, a combination of selective REalIsm on how awful everything is and wasting the player's time.

I've been waiting on this lol. I finished re-watching the 2024 edition literally just a minute before this upload went live after starting it last night. Impeccable timing, hopefully it lives up to last year's, Darbo really knocked it out of the park, the individual moments were great but the way they were packed together bumped it up to another level. This year it's Darbo and Nik, whoever that is. Is it one of their normal editors?

First clip isn't one of my favorites but probably a good one to open with, the Fairy Queen song from Mother Horse eyes (and the live show). It's not funny in and of itself but I always start laughing about two minutes in because he just keeps going and going while mr goon progressively dies inside
