Newest Creepcast was mid at best. Maybe it'd have been better if they added in the audio from the actual videos (that they totally removed for whatever reason), or if they hadn't kept getting horribly derailed every five minutes. Really the entire "story" (or what may count for a story here) of this series made absolutely no sense, although I think that was more of a consequence of them doing it off the cuff than a problem with the original series. Next time they really should stick to something with a more clear story progression if they're not going to be watching these beforehand.

Also, not sure if the last story—My Wife's Been Peeking At Me From Around Corners—was posted here, but overall it was... okay. Not bad, but not all that exceptional in the grand scheme of things. Think I enjoyed their banter more than the story itself tbh.
 
Yeah, the goofing around during My Wife's Been Peeking was pretty great. Definitely the kind of thing where you'd be slightly bored reading it alone but not so boring you immediately drop it.

One thing I'm curious about; what do you guys think are the best stories Creepcast has covered?

I recently rewatched the Borrasca episodes. I remember rating them highly on my first listen due to the mystery, but upon rewatching all of the tension had dissipated and what was left was cringy dialogue and an ending that if I didn't know was written by a woman I would have assumed were the fantasies of a pornsick misogynist. For a story ostensibly about human trafficking and sex slavery the only "horror" were the voyeuristic observations of the two main male characters as none of the female victims (including Kimber) are fleshed out in any meaningful way, which undermines the story's "moral" (if it had any) and the horror aspect. Wouldn't the story have been more impactful from Kimber's point of view, since she had a motive to uncover why her "mother" struggled with mysterious mental illness and guilt? Not to mention some plot holes and character inconsistencies and the sheer implausibility of the whole thing; if Drisking's water made the inhabitants sterile it makes no sense to kidnap Kimber and sell her back into sex slavery as she had been drinking the same water as all the other inhabitants. It just came across as gross fetish porn.

Most of the stories are pretty weak IMO, however some do stand out - Penpal and Left-Right Game are my absolute favourites. Penpal genuinely horrified me and I'm almost reluctant to rewatch in case my memories are spoiled, while LRG read like an old Stephen King novel (back when he could actually write something decent) with some fantastic set pieces and well drawn characters. The ending is a bit of a let down but it wasn't so bad as to ruin the whole story for me. I also think Ted The Caver & The Showers are very good, with the former being a classic that doesn't suffer from the fluff and nonsense so many of the later stories do.

Left-right was pretty good.
I liked the third parent conceptually, though it did go a bit far in places. It also gave us Isaiah saying " at least have the decency to kill yourself" which is hilarious.

He always referred to it as the "8 Hour WW2 Video", so I imagine it would have dipped a bit more into details than just a general timeline video, but probably wouldn't be as indepth as a dedicated video on any one subject.

Penpal was really good... up until the ending. How deep was the hole that the friend's dad couldn't obviously see a grown man lying in it?

Other than that, I'd say Russian Sleep Experiment is the closest to a decently good story without really any flaws (despite whatever Hunter tried to wanted the story to be) that they've covered so far.

Haven't gotten around to Borrasca yet.
 
No End House and Russian Sleep experiment are, just from a story perspective, probably my two favorites, with Left Right Game a bit below them. The first two are short and sweet, work really well as short stories and I don't have any major complaints.

Left Right Game, especially the first half or so, really hits that liminal horror that I love, and I'm a sucker for stories about going somewhere with a focus on all the areas in between rather than the destination, so just traveling through an ever evolving liminal space is something I desperately crave. It does have some problems, probably the biggest of which is that the ending is my least favorite trope, but I will give it credit for being the best implementation of that trope that I've experienced (that trope being confronting an omniscient being who won't explain things because the mortal won't understand, not the redditor arriving at the tunnel, I didn't mind that)

Honorable mention to Ted the Caver, it's definitely up there with No End House and Russian Sleep experiment, possibly even above them. A lot of these creepypastas really struggle with their endings and Ted the Caver fucking nails it

I also like The Showers and Penpal, but I don't quite love them. It could just be a failing on my part but I don't really get the actual showers. I honestly probably would have liked it more if it was just an empty, dirty room that you can just walk into by going through a door but it's much harder to leave because you have to go through all the weird, dark hallways, and as you're leaving the denizens arrive and try to drag you back in. For whatever reason having the empty room have showerheads for no reason just takes me out of it and makes it less spoopy and drags the story down far more than it should (not to say anyone's wrong for liking this one, it just bugs me personally for reasons I don't understand). The premise of Penpal is great but it just goes on a bit too long. Not sure exactly what to cut but I think it'd be better if it was trimmed down, and it has a weak ending like I complained about earlier

The worst is obviously Jeff the Killer, with The Thing in the Basement not too far above it, but these are actually my two favorite epsiodes lol, like Best of the Worst but with shitty creepypastas

The Stairs in the Woods does seem like a lot of fun but they didn't read it and I haven't read it so I can't comment on it as a story

Tommy Taffy I disliked, it was just way too try-hard, in a bad way. The rest I don't have any real thoughts on besides "They're fine-ish but weak ending"

LRG, despite its flaws, hits that liminal sweet spot like mentioned above which I thoroughly enjoyed. If you haven’t already, I really recommend listening to the podcast. The whole side plot with Tom was a nice addition, and helps explain some nit-picky questions such as “how come no one noticed these people went missing” or something.

Penpal nails the tension, it was the only story they read that genuinely had my heart pumping at times like you would when expecting a jumpscare. Like you’re too scared to find out what happens next. The ending was really over the top but I feel like the story works even if you don’t include that part.

It’s honestly frustrating how much of a dud most of the stories they pick end up being. Nosleep is shit 99% of the time, but there’s still some good stuff in there. I used to watch creepypasta narration channels who’d take content from nosleep, and while I don’t remember specific titles, there were plenty of stories I found entertaining.

There’s one story that particularly stuck with me, which is unsurprising since it’s very liminal and reminiscent of LRG. Guy who works as a pizza delivery driver I think? Takes an order to some weird address and the drive takes him days where lots of weird shit happens. Do any of you recognize this?

Anyway, if they’re struggling to find quality pastas then there’s plenty of other topics they could get into. SCP readings for one, I could probably provide a list of hundreds of SCP recommendations if I sat down and looked back at the archive to refresh my memory. And while I’m not really a fan of SCP tales, they’re essentially repackaged creepypastas anyway.
 
Normal Porn is the only pasta that actually hits any sort of genuine horror to me. It feels casual enough and believable enough to be real.

The rest always veer into the supernatural, which these amateur writers never handle well in the long run, or it becomes so convoluted that the whole story falls apart if you look even an inch below the surface.

Plus I find the way Meat chooses to voice act, on top of his actual abilities as I've mentioned before, exceptionally grating. And the way wendi will get unironically emotional over some of them makes me understand why he was the kid getting dunked in trashcan at school.

Hunter immediately ruins it with his retarded fucking narration. Holy shit dude I can’t even continue watching this, I quit.

If you want an actual amazing narration of an amazing story watch this instead.

Well that episode had a really rough start, but it did pick itself back up at least. Especially liked that weird Heath Ledger stuff that was really funny.

On the story: the whole duality of whether or not the guy's actually crazy or some shit's actually going down totally carried the story. Kind of wish there was more detail either way throughout the main part of the tale—stuff that be totally normal, some that seem normal but you could interpret as being really weird, and stuff that's just outright weird and without explanation that only fuels John's paranoia. Probably best to extend the timeline beyond, like, a few days as well to really give things time to develop.

The ending totally sucks though. I don't know what is it with these stories, but this is now the fourth time a perfectly good story had such a shitty ending. Really should have kept it ambiguous all the way to the end, because just saying he was crazy all along is so cliché it'd absolutely ruin the entire story for me (it almost did for me at the asylum part), and on the other hand saying he was right all along minimizes the power of all that ambiguity the story had built up by that point. Would've far more impactful if the writer just left a suggestion and ended it there, leaving the reader to mull the story over in his head, rather than just outright doing all the work for them.

Fix that, and the story would be so much better.
 
Why does Isaiah look like an overcooked rotisserie chicken in this video? I just opened the podcast and it's the first thing I noticed.

On another note, has anyone here read Stolen Tongues or Tales From the Gas Station? Based on what Hunter has said in the past I think the boys will cover these stories very soon and I wonder if they're any good. Some of the audience recommendations have been absolute ass.

Obviously sunburnt. You can see it's less severe around his eyes so either he was wearing sunglasses or he went out swimming with goggles or something.
