Preaching to the choir here but fucking hell I hate nosleep so much. What a retarded concept.
I wouldn’t have a problem with it if people actually utilized the medium well, but 99% of stories there are clearly written in the proper format of a novel and only have tweaks made to them so they can fit the nosleep rules, like throwing some line at the end that says “I am now sitting in a library in bumfuck nowhere Kansas writing this, the killer is probably still looking for me.”
Nosleep stories never read like normal first hand account Reddit posts. Isn’t that supposed to be the whole point? How am I supposed to be immersed and pretend a story is real when it’s written like a high school literature class essay?
It also particularly cracks me up when the author does the whole “I can’t remember the whole thing word for word so I’ll paraphrase,” and immediately proceeds to write out an entire multi person conversation with proper intonations and the like. It’s another one of those nosleep-isms I mentioned where the story is clearly just written like a normal piece of fiction with tacked on anecdotes whenever the writer remembers “oh yeah, I need to make this sound like someone posting their true story on Reddit.”
